  1. Little nervous anxious and fear. Wish me luck.
  2. so - i was getting really bored last night so i went ahead and packed my hospital bag. Had my pre-op visit with the hospital on the phone yesterday and answered their 100 questions so that's done. Now the anxiety stage sets in for the weekend.....will find plenty of stuff to do to keep me busy and my daughter and granddaughter are driving up so I will get to play with her over the weekend and that should keep me busy!! So ready to get this new 'me' started and can't wait to throw away all my yucky size 16's away.....maybe I'll bring them to south texas over the holiday's and have a bonfire!!! Congrats to everyone who's on their way and good luck to all those who are going under the 'knife' next week!! I'm sure we will all be rocking our sleeves in no time!!

    Couldnt Do Surgery-Liver Size

well i don't drink, so I guess I'll be ok - I hope. But there has to be some other medical issues that would cause the liver to be enlarged....now I have to google this as I am curious.
  8. totally agree with NYXA post...well said.

    Final Answer On Water?

My NUT said the reason they tell their patients NO on soda is usually once they start they can't stop and it's just useless calories - I've not been sleeved yet (Monday 10th at 7:30 is my big day) but already cut out soda's back in May when I was diagnosed with diabetes - and my blood work pre-op came back and I already reduced my A1C to 6.3 from 6.9 - so really even though i work for a large soda/snack company - I know how bad soda is....for me it's a once in awhile treat and I buy the tiny cans. Everything in moderation after I have reached goal, so my NUT says. But if you read PDXMAN's post above - that makes perfectly logical sense....

    Final Answer On Water?

My surgeon said it's VERY VERY tough to stretch the new stomach - you'd have to seriously overeat for months and you'd be miserable - he even laughed at me when I asked if soda and such could stretch the new stomach - he said if that was the case all these people who drink 6 sodas a day prior to surgery would have a stomach the size of a car....so think about that. i was told drinking while eating would just push the food through too quickly - and since we are not taking in as much food anymore we need to be able to get all the nutrients we can - so we don't want to rush it.

    Dying On Pre-Op Diet

those pre made shakes are all gross to me...so I make my own and this pre-op diet has been a breeze - it feels like I have a milkshake every day......and I mix it up with adding frozen cherries - there a site here that has literally 100's of Protein shake recipes - there is no reason why there is not something you would like there. Plus if my surgeon made me purchase 'their' brand or their recommended shakes, I'd just say NO - why give them more $$$. Seriously, what are they going to say - I won't do your surgery unless you drink 'such and such' shakes? no way... Pre op is a breeze when you find a protein mix you like - I like the Premier Protein from Walmart - jug for $20 - cant beat that. Add a 1/2 a banana and you got a great shake.

    Couldnt Do Surgery-Liver Size

So the OP said her ALT was 29 which is in the normal range - mine is 29 -which my surgeon said was fine, as I did ask this question directly.....so what other blood work test could show that her liver was off? Also - I dont' think she said it was fatty liver - it was enlarged. So, what makes a liver enlarge?

    So Sad I Cannot Breathe

Im so sorry and cant imagine hoe you are feeling its our job as parents of young and older kids to protect them first. Please get her help now not next week but now. Her behavior sounds quite manic especially cutting ties with family matters. I know from helping my friend w her daughter We are thinking of you
  14. I can't believe its getting so close. I keep thinking I'm all prepared then I come lurking on this site and find out something else that could go wrong.....ugh. Trying to concentrate at work while being surrounded by boxes and boxes of stupid potato chips, sunflower seeds, popcorn, free grandma's cookies....I swear every day it's something else we are giving away here at Frito Lay....I will admit that I tried the grandma's new cookie - pumpkin spice....they were horrid - spit it out. There is so much to do here at the office before I take my leave of absence, and so thankful that I have Short Term Disability that pays 100% of my salary so I won't have to worry about mortgage and such....and I just can't concentrate...it's so frustrating. Did anyone else just lose focus at work a week or so prior to surgery? or am i just a freak-a-zoid. I swear of one more person comes by my desk with a open bag of some new chips that we are in the discovery stages for and asks me to try them..I'm going to slap them. - Maybe I should make a sign for my desk that says "Do Not Feed the Animal".......
  15. great - now they are passing out jars of salsa....lord give me the strength not so smite someone. Ok - so i took a jar of salsa, thinking I'll add it to some chicken breasts while they cook all day in the crock pot....of course this is for when I am finally allowed solids.....that's my story and I'm sticking with it! oh wait....here comes my boss with a giant bag of Smartfood Popcorn - Kettle Corn - crap my resolve has broken...I have eaten a handful of these devilish treats.....
  16. you laugh....I swear I'm gonna smack someone - my boss just opened up a bag of Olive Coast Chips (made with olive old) and said how good they are....ugh. thank goodness it's a 1/2 day Friday and short week next week....my willpower is fading.

    Pre Op Diet & Vitamins

thanks - going to try that tomorrow and see that helps!!
  20. Ok - so I believe I read a thread on here somewhere about taking your Vitamins at a separate time from your Calcium. SO, I chew my little 'tootsie roll' calcium in the morning then at night i take my chewable Multivitamin. For the last 4 days - my stomach has been pretty unhappy - my question is do you know if I need to take the calcium chew with food?? I'll try that tomorrow and see if that helps.....I sure hope so- as I think I have been to the restroom over 10 times today.....told me boss if I'm not at my desk...you know where I am....

    Macho Cheese Doritos

Try working at corporate Frito Lay - free chips every day - all the new products we get free....it's a nightmare - thank goodness I don't really like chips!! boxes of chips all over the place...i take the new stuff home so when my daughter and son are there they can munch and try them out....right now there a huge box in front of my desk with Ruffles Max - Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skin chips.....everyone says they are delicious....but I'm not trying them. but this is a hard thing to control when I have my 'salt' cravings.....

    Dr Marsden In Dallas

that's wonderful news - I'm so glad you were able to work things out!! sometimes we have to go the extra mile to comply with our insurance guidelines. Like I said before, I'm sure that there are tons of good surgeons here in the DFW area - so you should be all good to go!! Congrats on getting it cleared up!

    Bummed

I phoned and told them I had to have a date soon, as i have to let my job know as I was getting a new VP to support and needed all the time in advance - they gave me the date in 5 min. Call and tell your job and HR is pushing you for a set date so they can arrange for your workload to be handled correctly in your absence.

    Sleeved On 8/21..questions

I think i read here somewhere to try and take your chewable vitamins at night and then your calcium in the mornings - something about the iron messing around with the calcium. I'm not sleeved yet, but have started my vitamins at night and morning calcium - so far I've not been sick, but that could all change after Sept. 10!
