    My Decision

Same thing here. I am having the surgery on Feb 6th. My fiance and mom are very supportive. My father, however is not. He lives about 10 hours away from me. I talk to him everyday, but I haven't mention the sleeve to him. I know how he feels about any kind of surgery. I feel bad that I'm not telling him, but i just don't want to hear the negative opinions. I know why I'm doing this, and that's all that matters. I know once I start losing, he will notice something. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to say to him yet. Good luck with your journey. Everything will work out for the best. Just remember "who" you're doing this for

    A Week From Today!

We're being sleeved on the same day! I don't have a time yet, but my mind is thinking the same thing yours is..."one week from today"!! Congrats
  3. Thank you. I got my approval pretty quickly. My doctors office did most of the work. They told me that United Healthcare ususally just wants to make sure your BMI is 40+ (or 35+ with at least one co-morb), and that you go to all of your scheduled appts to get clearance. My BMI is 41 with hypertension. Good luck to you, keep us posted!
  4. Thanks!!! I actually got my approval a couple days ago :Banane55: !!! I really hope you hear something soon. Get us posted, good luck.
  5. No, I didn't have to do a 6 month diet. I actually got my approval a couple days ago. It seemed "too easy" in a way compared to the stories I've read about the approval process. Every insurance company is different.
  6. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got approved 2 days ago so I know how you feel. Good luck to you and I hope you get a date soon

Blue Cross Blue Shield Vs United Health Care

Hi Luisa, I have United Healthcare Choice Plus. My approval was really easy. I went to all the required appts and my doctors submitted my paperwork on 11/17. I just got approved yesterday. I started this journey in the middle of November, so it didn't take that long. They didn't require any supervised diet or anything. Hope this helps, good luck on your journey

    I Have A Leak!

I'm so sorry, hope you have a speedy recovery. Keep us posted.
  13. Hello All, I've had to make some tough decisions over the past couple months. I have been trying to get accepted to a nursing program for a couple of years now. It's been hard for me because something always "came up" in my life where I had to postpone school. I am having my surgery on 2/6.Ihave been working with my school advisor for almost 2 years now trying to get into a class. There has been a long waiting list since nursing programs are limited in NJ. I just got a call last night from the nursing coordinator at my school saying that she can get me in a class that starts 2/1 (5 days before my surgery)!!!! Of course, I accepted it and told her I would be in today to sign papers. I'm nervous about being able to keep up with the nursing classes as well as take care of myself after surgery. The good part about the program is for the first 4 months its just classroom work, so I don't have to do any clinicals. I haven't decided if I wanted to tell her about the surgery, since I don't want to ruin my chances of getting into the program. The classes are 2 days a week so I'm hoping to only miss that second week. I know everyone is different with how their body reacts to surgery. l'm hoping that I'll be able to keep up with the work, as well as my clear fluids!!
  14. Hi Momof2under5, Congratulation on your decision to change your life!!! Even though I haven't been sleeved yet, I know how important this life changing decision is for you. I too have 2 children, a 5 (soon to be 6 on feb 3rd) year old little girl and a 18 month old boy. I'm doing this for a healthier lifestyle as well. I haven't started my pre op diet yet, so I don't have any suggestions on how to get through it. My surgeon only requires me to do the liquid diet on the day prior to the surgery, thank goodness! I can only imagine how difficult it must be to do it for 14 days!! :smile1: But again, congratulations on your decision. This board has been great! They're are amazing people here who will be there for you to answer any questions you may have!
