I hope you will consider the gastric bypass as a last result. There are people I know who have done really well with it. But I am hoping that they can move whatever is blocking it! Having an IV for now on would totally suck! My prayers are with you. Please keep us updated.

I felt great for the first week, maybe a bit less. Then I was hit with a huge bout of - not lethargy exactly, but zero energy - which lead to lethargy. It took my body a while to adjust to the sudden changes. I wanted to be up and moving around, I just couldn't. I seriously could not finish a shower without having to sit down (good thing my shower has a bench seat in it!) If I went upstairs, I would have to sit and rest after the stairs, and there's only like 16 of them (I didn't have to do that at my heaviest weight). When we did go out, I would need like 4 breaks between when I started to get ready and when we actually left. We went grocery shopping and I had to get one of those electric cart things - I seriously couldn't even just stand in line and wait. That lasted about a week and a half. Then overnight I felt much better, about 80%. And slowly that went up. It wasn't until about 1.5 weeks ago that I really felt myself again.
Which do you think applies more - are you sort of lacking in motivation, or do you not have the energy to? If it's motivation, maybe treat yourself to an outing of something you usually enjoy. If it's energy, I would say take it easy (not sedintary, but easy) until you feel like you have a little more stamina. You definitely don't want to do too much when you're feeling like everything completely drains you.

Like so many of us- we turned to food for comfort. And now the BFFood is gone! I know I did, and I would stand at the fridge and cry. Because I would ALWAYS turn to food, and now I have to feel and hurt and deal with my problems! Kinda sky diving without the parachute. That's how it felt for me.
One of things you have to remember that your energy level is really low due to the lack of calories, and being tired is the pits. Maybe up your Protein amount?
I too felt the same way about the surgery. "Why", "What have I done?", "I made a mistake..." And I can say a friend of mine who is a few months behind me from the surgery- she too would cry and call me saying the same thing. Another friend who had it done in Feb. of this year felt the same way- and called me too. You are not going crazy sweetie. We all feel that way in the beginning. It's hard. It's work. It's not a quick fix. This surgery deals with more than losing weight. It's a rollercoaster to say the least.
I also found a wonderful therapist. That has helped me leaps and bounds. It's not for everyone. But it has helped me!
Good Luck! We are here for you! You CAN do this- and it will be the best thing you have EVER done for yourself!
    Hugs~

It's my personal opinion, I don't care if the Dr. or whoever gets perks or not (not trying to be a smart a**) as long as I can see that this just might me in the best interest of me. I have never had any type of surgery prior to this, so how do I know if I am prone to blood clots or not. I appreciate the precautionary measures made for me.

It frustrates me to hear these weight losses. Dont take me wrong when I say that, I am happy for everyone. Since my surgery Jan 20 I have lost 20 pds... that is it. But I look at the whole picture. On Dec 4 I weighed 308, today I weigh 268, if I go by that number I have lost 40 pds. I do exercise three times a week for 30 mins, my calorie intake is minimal. However, I can honestly say without this surgery I wouldn't have lost that much. Good luck

I am right there with you!! I was sleeved on 2/16/12. And on my 12th day post op, I was down 16lbs. And my scale and been going up and down 1-2 lbs...but basically staying put!!! I know I am retaining water...so I TRY to drink more, but it seems like the more I drink the more I retain!! I have really been pushing the protien too... but nothing is making a diffrence!! It is very frustrating and completely discourging!! I was so worried about the "3 week stall" and was crushed when mine became a 2 week stall!!! Totally not good for my cofidence and esteem!! I am praying this hump is over quickly!!!

It is totally frustrating for everyone when we are in a stall. We get so scared that we had 85% of our stomachs cut out and for what? Losing just a few lbs. But in reality, it took us months and years to put the weight on, and we have tried every diet out there to lose weight, to gain it right back.
In reality, are bodies are doing great to shred all these lbs as quick as we do. Yes we do have times when the scale stops moving, but that is a time when our bodies our adjusting. This is the most valuable time to me bc I'm losing inches when my scale stops moving. Our bodies after surgery has to heal, shred lbs, and is deprived of nutrients by our sleeve restriction. So over all, I have learned to honor my body and let it heal, and the bonus is: I'm losing inches and I love looking really great. I love the compliments from others that I look really hot!
Please be patient and treasure your body because it's the only one we will ever have. Take great care of the body and make sure it gets all the Protein and fluids to help in shredding all your unwanted pounds. We are doing this!

takingmylifebacc reacted to Itsanewdaycassandra in Washington Post Article On Women's Body Images
I liked the article and agree that historically we (African American women) have been flooded with images of what is considered ideal or the standard of beauty in America, such as long blond hair or having blue eyes, and few of us could relate to or achieve these standards, and so we have overtime had to establish our own standard of beauty and have embraced our features. And while there is no one standard body type for African American women, I think that on average African American women tend to be curvier, or “thicker”.
With all of this being said I do think that it is important that in today’s society that we address obesity and living at a healthy weight as a health issue and not just as a cultural standard of beauty. While African American woman embrace our curves we also need to deal with the facts that diabetes is a leading cause of death among middle-aged African-American women, and African-American women develop high blood pressure earlier in life and have higher average blood pressures compared with white women and that African American women face a higher risk for sleep apnea compared with white women. Curvy is one thing and Obesity is another. I think we all need to embrace our body types and love them pear-shaped apple-shaped whatever, and trust me I know this is easier said than done.

    Holy moly!
The original response to the question was in no way rude or snarky. I reread it a few times to see if I could find another connotation and I couldn't.
You would be doing yourself a disservice to delete your account as everyone is very helpful with ANY question. Even some that are TMI and rarely are answers given that are judgemental.

Magnolia, Most of the regular posters here refer to the foods mentioned by Foxbins as sliders because they are things that don't fill us up. She answered the question she thought you asked. As a matter of fact, that was the question I thought you asked as well. If you're referring to a particular food (like the hamburger she mentioned), no, it won't take you several hours to eat one.
Of course, most of us realize that our hormones go NUTS after surgery from a combination of meds and the fat cells dumping hormones all over the place, so we know that sometimes things seem to be mean when they aren't. Please stick around and get the help and information you need here. Then you can pass it along to other new post-surgery patients later!
