I think one is NEVER too old to do something that makes one like what is in the mirror. And I sincerely hope I won't feel old at 47! You could have fifty more wonderful years ahead, especially now that you've had surgery and are healthier. I agree with Lissa. Go for it!

Ugh, what a snotty person. I think there are probably higher-end consignment shops that would actually take that stuff. Some are just geared toward skinny people.

Oh WOW I am totally looking forward to that one. I have always had big calves, so that would be amazing. I've never been able to wear boots, and I am a Texas transplant so I WANT SOME. YAY for you!

Hey, so for what it's worth, surgery does NOT mean giving up food. I struggled with some of the same issues, and the pre op was really hard, but I am able to tolerate small quantities of liquid with meals, small amounts of club soda, etc. And I could even eat a mini-scone now and then, if I liked mini-scones. It is possible to do this as a lifestyle change, not as something where it puts foods on the "never again" list. It's just that a lot of things are now on the "occasionally, in tiny quantities" list, but the good thing is I only want/can fit tiny quantities.
Hang in there and ask lots of questions! This board is a great resource, and you'll find a variety of perspectives and experiences on all of these issues.

I had a morphine drip for the first 24ish hours. Once I got out of the hospital, I had liquid painkiller, but I literally took it only once. There was some pain but the gas was the worst...however, its all about 72 hours of crap and then it gets way better. Don't worry! You are strong enough to get through this.

My doctor told me that if I can tolerate it, I can have it, in moderation as long as its diet and most of my Fluid is of course still Water. I think everyone's rules are different, but it doesn't "ruin" your sleeve the way it messes thing up with a bypass.

    So, a little explanation.
One of my challenges is that I really want to make this a lifestyle, and not make it feel like a diet. So I am trying to eat small portions of sensible food, but not deprive myself. This fits in really well with the fact that I LOVE to cook and also that I cook for my fiancee, who loves to eat! But cooking is super-hard to motivate myself for sometimes, since I can eat so little....
    ....so I started a blog.
The recipes are mostly healthy (and even the decadent ones include modifications you could use to make them lower calorie), but are not "diet food." It's food for real people with or without sleeves, and I put in the nutrition facts.
Last night, I made smoky chipotle burgers with 99% lean ground turkey and managed to actually make them moist and yummy, so I thought I would share (the secret is ricotta cheese, believe it or not.)
Here's a link to my recipe with nutrition info, photos, etc: http://savorysweetie.com/smoky-chipotle-turkey-burgers-with-cooling-creamy-salsa/
I hope that if you're interested you'll read my blog and comment, as well! I'm just starting off and would love some readers . The more support I can get for all parts of this journey, the better off I feel, and cooking is definitely a big part of the journey that's a change for me!

I definitely had trouble! I am lucky, I am 4 weeks out and have a very forgiving sleeve, but I really really wanted to cheat. Some things that kept me sane, but were still mostly ok:
Greek yogurt the 2% kind (tastes like it has fat and is delicious, especially the Peach Fage flavor)
    Saltines with creamcheese
    mashed potatos
    Tomato Soup, the creamy kind.
Don't worry too much about calories right now. Just don't hurt yourself! That is most important.

This happened to me and I got SO upset, I thought I was doing everything wrong. Don't stress, try to walk, and enjoy the foods you can eat--as long as you follow all the reccomendations, you're doing everything right and it WILL come off. I was stalled for almost two weeks and then I lost another three pounds quickly and easily. It will happen!

WOW you're so impressive. Right after surgery, I couldn't get CLOSE to 40 oz a day of liquid in no matter how hard I tried. Congrats on everything, I hope you're feeling great.
