ballajones got a reaction from Kinley7390 in Skeptical And Scared
I started the WLS process March 2010 but chicken out because I wasn't mentally ready. I told myself I would give myself one last chance to do it on my own.
After a year my weight fluctuated up a few lbs and down a few. I was constantly at the dr getting tests done because the medications I was taking for high blood pressure and cholesterol were affecting my liver.
I decided I needed help. I had lap band surgery this past February and I'm glad I did. After a month I was off all my meds and I feel like a whole new person. I feared my personality would change but it didn't. I'm the same old me in a smaller healthier body.
Best of luck to you. This forum is helpful in many ways

Wow Sounds like my marriage. My hubby has a love affair with sports. So during football season I might as well consider myself single. Lol

ballajones got a reaction from Cpvillacis in Does Getting Lap Band Affect Marriage?
I think it Depends on the couple and how they were before. I know some people who get along fine and some that their relationship has changed. In mine my hubs stopped being supportive but I expected this because unless it involves sports it won't keep his attention. My hubby has also became jealous more so because a lot of people have notice a big change in my body. In the end both have to understand this is for your health.

I was banded 2/1/12 haven't had a fill and have lost 85 lbs. I do try to work out at least 4x a week for at least an hour. I know we shouldn't have more than a cup of food but the times I do I normally don't eat the next meal because I'm not hungry. There are also times (usually when stressed) that I feel tight so I don't make an attempt to eat solids so I'll stick with a Protein Shake.
We are all different and I think we just all need to try out what works best for us. I have to switch up my calories. Take a week of from exercising. The constant change helps me. But most important keep up with your Water intake

Don't worry so much about not losing weight. There will be times that you plateau. I was banded Feb 1 since then lost 85lbs. I've been stuck at 210 for about 4 weeks. As long as you atelier following the "rules" you will be fine. I started walking 2 weeks post-op and that helped with my weight loss

I went to my 7 mon appointment and luckily I didn't need a fill. I'm down 85lbs (46% of my excess weight). My doctor only wants me to lose 45 more lbs. I'm soooo stoked.
Only bad news is I'm being check for H. pylori AGAIN!!! If that's negative then I'm getting checked to see if my band slipped.

My husband was my biggest support when I was first banded feb 1, he even lost 25 lbs. after 3 months he went back to his old ways and gained all his weight back. He would come home with my favorite candy and say he brought me a snack. I gave in for 2 weeks and felt horrible. I've learned I'm doing this for a healthier me. Every night my hubs deals with acid reflux because if the crap he eats. I'm lucky to have co workers and friends that support me to the fullest. My hubs is there for me but always remember this is for a healthier you!!
As for the sugar habits. I have a horrible sweet tooth. I usually only allow myself a sugar treat 3 times a week and it's usually a Fiber one brownie only 90 calories

Just some facts that may help you...
The band will not stop you from pigging out. It's purpose is not to stop you from eating, nor is it to make you feel stuffed full. The band's purpose is so that you can be satisfied with less food for longer periods of time. Being satisfied does not mean full nor does it mean unable to eat. It simply means you're not physically hungry.
A big mistake people make is thinking the band will physically stop them from eating. Very often you could easily eat more than the 1 cup or less portion we're advised to stick to. But, just because we can eat more doesn't mean we should.
The band helps tremendously to help hunger, but even on smaller portions you have to change your eating habits to healthy ones for a lifetime. The work is still very much ours to do and if changes aren't made, you won't lose.
Mind you, it doesn't matter which weight loss surgery you choose, you still have to eat healthy if you want to lose weight. That's not specific to the band alone.
Understanding what the band does and doesn't do is really important, just like changing eating habits to healthy ones is important. When you do the work and use the band as it was meant to be used, you can be very successful losing weight.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

Yesterday it was in high 80's and now today it's dropped down to the high 60's. I was actually cold so I went into my closet to pull out my once favorite black cardigan.
The cardigan I wore the day I had surgery and I haven't worn in many months.
Holy cow, I couldn't believe how huge it was on me! I mean, I guess I should've known because I've dropped 5-6 sizes since then, but putting that sweater on was a "wow" moment. It really put into perspective how far I've come. Especially considering the day of surgery, I couldn't button it because it was too tight across the tummy if I did.
So, I thought I'd share the difference. Here is me in the now massive sweater

I started off being 150 lb over my "ideal weight" and like you the thought of surgery scared me but so did the thought of having a heart attack at a young age. I put off surgery for a year because I chickened out. I was banded earlier this year and I won't lie I've had food get "stuck". Days I've had horrible reflux. Hair loss ???ž and just days where I miss junk food (personal pity party).
I'm thankful for my surgery. I was off all meds the first month after surgery. I have sooo much energy. So my "bad" days are just bumps in the road. It happens.
    Best of luck to you.

there is good and bad with any surgery. even getting a manicure or root canal is risky.
if you want help losing weight, this band could help you
its a tool that will help you get full quicker with fills.
its up to you to eat better foods than what got you to over 100 pounds over weight
i am bigger than you and after researching and discussing at length with my dr, i chose the band and its working
if you can get over the (is it worth the side effects and the complications that may or may not happen) and decide if you are mentally ready to make yourself well,
then it can help assist you to lose weight.
if not, you may just get bigger and bigger. i know i would have.

I was an over eater. I ate because I was bored or just because I seen someone else eating. Sitting at a desk all day didn't help either. Just remember the band is a tool to help you lose weight. It's not a solution in itself.
I was banded February 1, 2012 and have lost 80 lbs without a fill. I had to change my mind set. I made myself aware of what I was eating by using the myfitnesspal app. This app is awesome!!! I also exercise on a regular basis. It's important to know the difference from "head hunger" and thirst. Now when I'm bored at my desk and I want to snack I usually take a couple sips of Water and I'm fine. The days when water doesn't help I usually have a few peanuts or a small serving of fruit.
Best of luck to you. This forum has helped me a lot.

I'm hoping someone can relate and give me some hope. I've always had irregular periods. Some lasting 3 months and recently not having one for 2 years!!! I've been on BC since I was 13 to regulate periods and stopped 3 years ago. Jan 2011 I had pre-cancerous cells removed from my cervix. I decided to get banded as I've always been told my weight was preventing me from getting preggo. I've lost 80lbs since being banded feb 1. And still no period. I really hope this changes I would love to have at least one baby
Anyone else have my bad luck???
