  1. Well today is the last day for our feb bansters.... How is every one feeling?

I go to see my doc today for my follow up appt and he is prob going to start me on mushy foods Friday. I am scared, the weight has just been coming off and I don't want to gain during what some on here are calling "bansters hell"... Any suggestions from those who had it it done early feb? Any feed back would be helpful. Thanks! Have a great day any one and congrats to us all for making a wonderful life changing decision !!

  2. Wow!! I can't believe this... Some people!!! I have a friend who tried to eat things she should not have and the band is still working for her... She just threw up what ever did not go down well for the first few months. I think we all know what I'm talking about. If u can still eat that much food something is defiantly wrong with the band!!! They tell you this in any seminar, at least the ones I have been too, Or maybe she stretched the pouch out ( which in my mind would take a lot) either way I wish ppl would take a look at the success stories (and I'm not talking about the commercial ones). I mean every day ppl who have had to struggle and play the band hell and they have still made it through!!! I am only at the beginning of this, but even now I am following drs orders because I don't want to mess anything up!

Ok rant over. Thank you for sharing I really had no clue how bad ppl can mess up the band and their lives.

  3. I don't mean to be the bearer of band news but once you hit "band hell" at about week 4 things get rough. I lost 15 pounds my first 6 days after surgery and then plateaued. Band hell, as my doctor called it, was rough. I cried a lot and started eating way more than I should have- no vomit because I had no restriction yet. I guess it varies by doctor. Mine just filled my band for the first time today. I lost 2 pounds just today so I'm starting to feel good again. It comes and goes, so I'm told. Just keep up the diet and control and I think we should all do great!

Thank you! We need the good and the bad, to know what could be a head of us. I am worried about that, but hoping I can control my self for the most part. Congrats on your weight loss so far and keep up the great work. We will all get to our green zone sooner or later. :)

  4. you have done so well... and congratulations on a job well done so far. i hope that your weight loss does continue.. how fast did you want to lose?? is there a healthy limit or not??

Thank you! I hope so too! I am trying to have mind control, it's not easy but it will pay off, and if I slip I will have my band there in a few months to say no way Jose! Lol. As much as I would like to keep losing at this rate, I know it is unhealthy for the long term, and I will be presented with questions I am not sure I want to answer. The ideal would be to keep off what I have already lost during my non fill stage and keep losing 2 lbs a week.

  5. How are you today, Sophia? I'm starting to feel a bit more normal today, with the exception of 2 of the incisions are still painful. I have not taken any tylenol since bedtime last evening, and am doing fine.

Please share your plan about how to get your "free liquids"...I still am not able to manage this, and am more focused on having the required amount of milk for the Protein goals. By the time I have the Protein Drinks, milk, and the liquid to take my crushed pills, I feel I am pushing the limits with having that feeling of being full.

    Hello!!

I am in a lot of pain right now because I did to much today! mostly the big incision.

As far as the liquids, I wake up in the moring and have my protien (most mornings) along with a few ounces of Water. then I wait a while, an hour or so and then I start on my Soups, Jello, water or popsicals. I found this amazing protien bullet that I love, the protien flavor is there in the begining and then it follows with a great some what sweet fruit flavor of your choice. (http://newwhey.com/), I found mine at Wal-mart for 2.49 a tube. I have found them a little cheaper online depending on the web site. The above web page is outragous!! but this will give you an idea what to look for. 0 sugar, 0 fat, 42 grams of Protien and only 3oz so it wont over fill you!!! I felt really full in the begining, but as the swelling starts to go down I am able to get a little more liquid in. I am getting about 50oz of water a day, plus my soups and jello. I think the milk is fillng you up to much...I was actually told to avoid milk unless its a little here and there and it should be fat free.

I hope this helps you a little. :)

  6. I started at 253 at the initial seminar' date=' was 237 starting the pre-op diet, was 229 after one week of pre-op Protein shakes, weighed in at 225 the day before surgery and just went to my first appt since surgery and weighed in at 212!

I go back in two weeks for my 1st fill! Have heard we might gain in this period...but that is ok...I know I am doing it right [/quote']

You are doing amazing!!! Keep up the great work! Sounds like you started a great diet before u went into the pre op faze. Congrats!!

  7. Hope this helps- I was 284 pre-op' date=' 276 or so day of surgery, and now, 4 weeks out (as of Sunday) I am at 264- so about 12 lbs down. You will lose a lot at first being on liquids and just not as hungry- but it does come back and you definitely can gain- after you recover from surgery for a few days sometimes the "really hungries" come roaring back. This is known as bandster hell, which you will be in - to some degree or another- until you're filled and in the green zone, which may take several fills.

Now is the time to LOG LOG LOG your intake, your exercise, your feelings. It is a diet right now, the band doesn't usually do anything for you until filled- with some exceptions of people who feel restriction right away. Just practice eating small bites, chewing, getting in all your Protein, and you'll keep that weight off and lose more!

    Good luck![/quote']

Thank you that does help. I have been logging as much as possible, and trying to love my hunger pains. Lol. I can't wait to have a fill!

  8. Hi Sophia ' date=' I started at 232, was 224 day of surgery , weighed myself today and was 219!! Yay! So 13 lbs down from my heaviest! You and I seem to be doing similar! Let's keep it up!!

Have you started exercising yet? Beyond the little recommended walks? I was thinking of starting to do 1/2 mile to mile walks in the morning starting tomorrow , then jazzercise once I can start mushies :)[/quote']

I have not yet started anything beside walking, idk why but I am still so sore around the port sight. I am thinking when I start mushy foods I will start the tredmill for a mile or so. I really want to do Zumba but I don't want to fail like I did last time so I'm Going to wait till I'm about 170 or so. We have a Zumba class in Barstow for 3 bucks every time we go. I am really excited at everything we r accomplishing so far!!! Keep up the great work.

  9. Hello everyone, I hope I am not duplicating this question.... But I was wondering how many pounds you lost during ur pre op diet and after ur first 4 weeks of surgery?

I ask because I was wieghed in at 208 (bmi 40) started my pre op diet, then surgery was a week later, I was down to 197, I am 4 days post op and I am already down to 190.2!!!! I am ecstatic! Is this the norm? Will I be able to keep most of it off after I start eating on my 3rd and 4th week out? I do not get a fill until 5-6 weeks post op.

Thanks for ur responses! I love my band so far and all the wonderful support I have received from everyone!

  10. Surgery in the morning...Id be lying if i said I wasn't a little bit nervous. But overall excited and ready to go!

I was a little nervous as well, I visited with everyone that was able to be there in the morning with me, kissed my spouse, cried a little and then I was like IM READY!!! That is my experience, everyones is a little different, but I was focused on the new skinny me and how much this is going to help me. My only word of advise is stay on the positive side of the road.

    Good Luck!

  11. I am now "on the other side" officially, my surgery was yesterday afternoon! I was able to return home last evening. It took longer than anticipated to get to the OR because I cannot tolerate Heperin, and the doctor's orders were based on me being a diabetic, which I am not...It took over 2 hours to get those issues corrected.

I am still in some pain, mostly from the gas. I have been walking around the house frequently, trying to get my Protein and liquid requirements met. I have been taking Tylenol and one dose of the liquid hydrocodone so far. I requested the pharmacy to add their "grape" flavoring to the meds, which does make them more tolerable. I really dislike having to crush my other meds, very bitter to swallow. And, wonder of wonders, we received a phone call just as we were leaving for the hospital that the one medication which insurance did not want to cover was finally approved, saving us several hundred dollars.

I am still very bloated, though I remember feeling this way after surgery last summer. I will keep walking and try to be patient with myself.

I am able to tolerate all of the liquids from the pre-op diet, but I have to sip almost constantly to even come close to the daily 80 oz my doctor advised me to drink. I have been able to discern the feeling of being full, and knowing when to stop drinking for 30 minutes or so.

So, the real journey begins now. I am beyond ready to move forward and become healthier. Patience is a virtue I am determined to learn. We all take one day at a time...thanks to you all for the insight and emotional support shared on this forum!

I am so glad we are sharing this journey together, I am feeling like to gas is almost gone, and the pain of the port opening is becoming my main focus. I am working on getting in my Water as well; I did not do well yesterday at all, today I am ready with plan to get all my water in!! lol. Last night I made a bad decision to lay in bed instead of in the recliner unsure.png ...I paid with a lot of pain, with or with out pain medicieneblink.png . I went back to the recliner at 530 am this morning and I am starting to feel better.

We will be fine and this is going to be amazing! I feel it in my gut (lol no punt intended) hahahahlaugh.png

  12. ...what wonderful new... its done !! lol... and i dont blame you for wanting to shout it from the roof tops.. i would too... hahahaha.... i hope that you recover really quickly. judych

Thank you for correcting my spelling..lol. I was still a little druged yesterday when I wrote that... I am in a little pain today, but nothing compaired to my other surgery. I am happy with the out come and cant wiat for my first fill in 6 weeks!

  13. I think my doctor is much stricter than others. I was banded on 2/17. I had 3 days of Clear Liquids and now I have 2 FULL WEEKS of 3 Protein Shakes a day! Nothing else(other than water) and no exceptions!!!!! I have been having a VERY hard time with this.......I don't feel like cake, Cookies, etc, but at this point, I would give anything to just have a teaspoon of cottage cheese!!!

Don't many Drs. allow these foods after 1 week?????

For me personally I can blend any Soup, ect and as long as it goes through a strainer I can have it and I had surgery yesterday. I am trying to stick with Jello, Water and ice just because it seems to sit easier. in the second week I get soft mushy foods. I would ask your dr his specific reason for this diet he has you on after the fact. It seems like everyone is different and dr's have their reasons for the diet they put you on. Good Luck!! Just remember what your goal is and how much further ahead you will be than the rest of us...lol laugh.png Its not easy but it will all be worth it in the end.

Oh and dont be afraid to ask your dr questions....that is what he is there for.

  14. I am officially on the other side lol the banded side smile.png the operation went great and my lapband is in place and functioning. My dr also did a stomache plication they have found it to work in aiding the band. Best of luck to all those banded and still awaiting banding. If anyone has any questions I would love to help the best I can. Mi hope we all have an amazing journey into skinnyville lol

Plication? is that where they take the stomach and place it over the band on one side to hold it in place? If so mine is doing that as well. I am glad because I was so nervous about slipage.

Congrants on being on the other side. I have my surgery this morning! Excited and Nervous are the only 2 words to describe me this morning. lol have a wonderful day everyone! I will up date everyone as soon as I can.

  15. I'm jealous of you! I will be banded in the morning, and then it will be an entire two more weeks of clear liquids and Protein drinks...

This evening I really lost it with my husband; I was allowed only 2 protein drinks today, and by evening I have to admit that I was hungry. I was able to ignore my husband while he had his wonderful salad and chicken dinner, but then instead of taking his plate into the kitchen, he left it sitting a foot from where I was sitting. For over a half hour I could detect the wonderful smells...and I lashed out at him for his total lack of consideration for me and the adjustments I am in the process of making in my life. He told me that he was trying to keep everything "normal"...in other words, I can change, but he will not. This is going to be a very long year...Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations!

Oh my that is not nice at all. My spouse went and ate dinner out 3 times this week (even though we really could not afford it) and ate things at home that I would normally hate to eat. Shame on him. He needs to be supportive!

I know your probably checking in about now, so Good Luck!! I know you will do great!

  16. Hello February Bandsters! Congrats to all who have already had surgery and good luck to those that have it coming up. I am getting pretty excited out surgery ... Monday cant come fast enough. Lots of work this weekend to get all of my supplies and to get my house nice and clean so that I don't have too much to worry about while I am home recovering.

I was super duper happy yesterday when the surgeon said I was down 6 lbs after week one of the Pre-Op diet even though I cheated over the weekend and renewed my motivation to do great this weekend. I am shooting for another 6 this week ... unlikely but a girl can dream.

Anyways, that was my little tidbit for the day!! smile.png

I love your enthusiasum!!!! I am so excited and a little scared mine is FRIDAY!!! But i am ready for a change....on the diet this week and am down 7lbs!! Good luck!

  17. I know that when one gives up one addiction (food), another one is likely to surface. At least sex is good cardio, good for the relationship, and not to mention it's lot's of fun!

    LOL So TRUE!!!

  18. I am really excited because I found out that my insurance will cover my WLS, but I have to complete a 6 month doctor-supervised weight loss program. Has anyone else had to do this, and if so, have you been turned down for surgery afterwards? If all goes well, I will be banded or having the sleeve done in September!

I had to do mine for 3 months and it really is not a big deal, at least it wasnt for me. Just make sure you keep your appts on time not before or after. The time will fly by....Good luck!

  19. Wow, I hope my spouse is that way!! lol.. We are doing the journey together. I am getting my band the 24th and she is getting hers some time with in the next 4-6 weeks. I hope our love life comes back!.. congrats to yours being renewed....lol..
