Mrs. Curtis reacted to gowalking in Giving Up your favorite foods
You sound like every other newbie. The fear of the unknown is overwhelming. Can I ease your mind some? I eat a little of my favorite foods. I admit that I am disciplined but success helps you get that way.
I'll tell you right now that there isn't a food in the world that tastes as good as being normal sized feels.
If you go ahead with any of the WLS out there, you will look at this post a year from now, or two years...whatever..and wonder why you were so worried.
I live by the words of my dad who didn't even realize how profound he was when he said, 'why overeat? It's just more of the same'. Words to live by my friend. Good luck! Oh, and here's a visual for you...not this this has anything to do with looks...this change was solely to get my mobility back but I know it helps for people to see me before and after. Keep us posted.

Yes - I had kind of hit a stall in my weightloss and the moment I started C25K the weight started dropping off again. I highly recommend this program. Never realized how much of a full body workout running was. Up to running 25min straight this week. Probably one of my proudest accomplishments!

I enjoy the chocolate classic more then the splendor.. best thing to do before you buy the canisters is to try the single serve packs.. get the variety pack.. you can try them all. Unjury for me has been the best one ive tried to date. and once your in their system.. you usually get your powders the next day LOVE that!

I have to say that I think the band is not for everyone. My band adjusts with my body so every day is different for me. My father on the other hand had the band and is down 100lbs. My port sits at a tilt, makes it hard to get fills and my father is in and out in seconds as his is just in the right direction as it should be. I think there will always be good and bad with each persons adventure with the band.

Thank you all for the supportive words. I have a very supportive family but sometimes they just don't understand what I'm going through. I am going to start back at square one, I did it before and will take this weight off. Going to call the doctors office when it opens and get that adjustment. Mid rather have them disappointed than go back to where I was. Sometimes you need to hear it from a stranger. So glad I found this forum site. Keep fighting all,we can do this.

Let me tell you something, if you have something that is your weakness and you give then it can easily become your downfall. If you drink 3 sodas a day and think you can cut them out and then just start only having one a month then let me tell you it's a hell of a lot harder than you think. Once you burst that bubble it's VERY hard to put it back together. If you're that worried about all of the restrictions with lapband then have you considered bypass or sleeve? You'll still have to make some lifestyle changes but I don't think they are as easy to defeat as the band is. I'm not trying to disuade you but I am trying to be practical and I wouldn't recommend getting this surgery until you are committed and ready. It's not a walk in the park but it can be a great tool if used correctly.
Lastly, here's a rule of thumb I have learned, don't take any nutrition advice that isn't a doctor or a lap band patient. People may 'think' they know how a band patient should eat but they are usually wrong. I won't even listen to a nurse or a nutritionist unless they are banded. I might shake my head and nod but internally I'm thinking, if I could do what you just said then I wouldn't have needed the damn band! Lol.

I would suggest that you really give it a go before having surgery. Try working with a trainer, nutritionist and then re visit the idea after those attempts. Surgery is not a quick fix by any means and will still take a lot of work after being banded.

Mrs. Curtis reacted to pstevens9@cogeco.ca in LAPBAND DIDN'T WORK FOR ME
I've had my lapband for 5 years. It has never worked for me. I lost 24 pounds on the liquid diet and I have managed to keep about 20 of that off. But, I never lost any weight with the band. I've had 13 fills and they kept saying, "Oh they put a large band in you". They finally sent me to the nutritionist who was a 90 pound vegetarian (not sure why she felt the need to tell me that) who was more interested in her phone than me. Her big suggestion after glancing at my diet sheet was to tell me if I get hungry in the afternoon, to have tuna on cucumber slices. Really? $16,000 and that's the advice I get? I left that day feelling like this whole thing was a mistake and I never went back. Now, five years later, I'm having pain around the port. I guess I'll have to go back, but I'm not looking forward to that. My advice would be to really do your research before you spend this kind of money. I would not do it again and I would have to advise other people to really think about it before they did it.

Wow... didn't those 4cc / ten year old bands pave the way for our "new" & "modern" bands!
Shouldn't we be slightly interested in any & all complications for "future reference" and education?
Note to self.... never ever ever ever ever ever ever post anything about a bad experience on this forum... geez!!
-I just felt like I witnessed a slaughter-
I'm a newbie and reading these brutal replies to someones post is the only scary experience I have had thus far! WOW

I was like some of you a year or two out from getting my band. Nobody could tell me that it wasn't the best thing I ever did for myself.
I just want to be clear: I am here to voice my story and my opinions about what the band did to me and to lots and lots of people I know. I had a great group of "bandsisters" when I was first banded right on this forum. NONE of them have their bands anymore. I am the last one.
Please do not be in denial about the damage that the band can do. Be vigilant with your complications and please, please know that if you are out a few years and you are gaining weight back, this is the biggest complication yet. Do not blame yourself or feel shame that "you failed" again. Private message me so that you are not attacked by people that are still in the glory days of their bands. I will help you in any way I can.
I wish someone would have posted something like this when I first started to have complications because I felt very much alone. This is why I am here.

if i went into this (surgery) with a what if i cant, what if that, what if this, i would have been in for a long ride.....the first thing i changed was ME...i told myself if i was able to get my insurance to approve this surgery, and find a great doctor, that i would do whatever it took to help myself..sure i failed in the past and this was my (last stand)..once i changed my attitude from woe is me and i cant to I WANT.....it was game on.......and i can see the end zone from here..

I finished my first 5k this past weekend! The race was for Challenge Obesity and it was cool to run alongside other runners who had lost 100+ lbs. Crazy to think that 1 1/2 years ago I couldn't even walk 2 blocks without being completely winded. I'm so grateful for my health and just wanted to share.

Wow congratulations on your incredible weight losses. That is truly amazing.
I'm so sorry you're having this problem.
So you have band over bypass. When is the last time you saw your surgeon? Is your band slipped?
Also, what size band do you have?
