#MagicWithinme reacted to A New New Dawn in surgeries going bad
Well put. I do appreciate people sharing their stories as they can be very insightful good or bad; but I agree that it can happen. I have horror stories I could tell about MRSA and what my mother went through for 2 years with gastric bypass, but I also know many people who have been very successful and had a seamless procedure. It's a chance we take. Many times I want to say well, what was your prognosis for NOT doing anything... probably much worse! Congrats to you and sorry to hear about what should have been a simple procedure.

Make room for me on that wagon, I didn't realize how scared my husband had been for me until 8 months later, when visiting some friends. The wife told me he had been so scared for me, but because it was something I wanted so badly he supported me. I had talked to him before about it, but he said he was fine with it.. make sure everyone knows whats going on and validate their feelings. Yes ultimately the decision is ours but we have to think about them as well. I didn't tell my family not to tell anyone, it was a private issue. It was a private issue, until I was told that someone was commenting how good I looked and another so-called" friend, comments oh she didn't do it on her own, she had the lapband done and proceeds to put her own pictures of herself how she had lost weight on her own.Since I don't follow this persons comments I was unaware. I confronted this person and asked her to remove her comments , that it was a private problem and I didn't appreciate what she did. Not that I was embarrassed but it wasn't her place to tell people. She never said a word..
We are all doing this for our health, so we can be around longer for our loved ones and I know I said this to my family.I want to enjoy the rest of my life, living in the real world not sitting on the couch in front of the tv. good luck to all of us!

If not a taxi, could hiring a driver be a possibility? Start your new life in a limo?? LOL, that would be awesome.
Any possibility of a neighbor helping out? Or a college kid? I wish you the best of luck! I just got my band today and feel great. I hope it's not just the pain meds...

It hasn't been a year for me but I can relate, the doctor himself is kind enough but sometimes the office staff is bipolar. One day they are saying hi how you doing, looking good and then next visit, they act like they don't know who I am.
I can understand that they seem many people, but there should be some familiarity after a year of being dr's patient.

our bodies are feeling defenseless food used to be our weapon and now we are open, and our minds will make us feel so different. I'm that way still after 15 weeks post band. Its a weekly thing, one week is good, one week is bad and all we can do is muddle through it. Don't sabatoge the work we have done, its so easy to fall back into those easy eating habits we don't even realize it. You are NOT ALONE.

I hear ya, its more like the mind is rebeling against the body. My body knows what its supposed to do and follows through, but my brain is the one thats causing problems, telling me to eat something I know I shouldn't, and how much and after I have, I wasn't really hungry for it, but just because it was. I will eat for 20-30 minutes sometimes alittle longer but I have the portion that Im supposed to eat no more (hubby is very good at portion control) . It does get easier, but people have to realize this is life long changes not till we've just lost the weight. We can still regain it back, and still be able to have health problems if we do.
I can admit I didn't know! Good Luck!

I know it may be difficult for you to see now, but everything in life happens for a reason. Don't question the delay, just continue to prepare yourself physically and mentally. Just think it could have been your actual surgery date that you had to cancel and not your doctors appt. I'm happy to hear that you are feeling better now and those eight days will be here before you know it.

While I agree with everyone, some people actually get "offended" when you tell them its not the lapband it's them. I had a person tell me, she couldn't recommend it, it didn't work, all she could eat was candy and drink shakes.. (not protein shakes). I tend to be blunt sometimes without realizing it, and say the first thing that comes to mind, and this friend just kept saying I don't recommend it, its a waste of money. For myself, I kept talking to various people and learning more and found great support . That would be great to team up , if she is willing, just don't let her negativity get to you, let her learn from you. No one said it would be a "game of candyland!"

I think you should try to help her realise in some subtle ways that the band does not prevent her from eating food no matter how tight it is. Befriend her, I don't know? suggest you team up? Seems like total ignorance on her part to me. I wish few years back someone had told me or even suggested how this band really is supposed to work. I pretty much thought... I'm smart, I can read, don't need anyone to tell me how it should be done. Boy was I wrong! Try help her see the importance of sticking to some kind of plan! All the best..

I tell my hubby if only I could take big bites, I don't care what I have to eat, thats something I mourn, I tried to eat a tuna sandwich no bread today and ended up eating most all of it. and I never have done that. I think I was looking for that elusive mayonaise high I used to get, so I kept eating. but I never found it. Tomorrow its gonna be light/soups as now my throat hurts. We don't realize what we mourn, until we are facing it, and the timing will be different for everyone. I'm like you Mags, I love salad with lots of salad dressing, croutons, onions,,, mmm well you get the picture, nibbling on that fresh bread... my whole family knows that I have lapband and so when we go out and eat, it is no longer buffets, but a place where I can order houderves or childs plates. I can do this, we can do this, it isn't just for a little while its for the rest of our lives.... I agree best of luck to all of us!

Word, peoples perception of anyone that does a procedure for weight loss is sometimes hurtful and demeaning. They think its cheating, and that its the easy way to loose weight. HA , they don''t have to eat the smaller portions or cut out alot of foods that we have loved all our lives. feel the stucks or the constipation, or be compared to someone else they know that got it done. I hate when Im compared to someone else that got it done. "I didn't have that gaunt sick look like so and so" I just said we are all different. You are right we shouldn;t have to explain it, what I do do, is tell people that I feel better, look better.

You should try bell plantation powdered peanut butter, they have chocolate flavored peanut butter kind, you can google search it and probably find it in your area. It cuts down the fat and the calories, I add it to everything, greek yogurt, my shakes, I love it best thing ever made! It's 45 calories a serving. 1.5 grams of fat per 2 TBSP.

I'm like Cfalbro, wait when did I right this.? It's easy to think this because all our lives we have failed and failed to lose weight the way society dicates we do, and some of us have people in our lives that don't let us forget that we should lose weight and that in itsself is another failure that people can't see us for who we are but look at the weight first.
To make the lapband work, you do need to follow the regime set by dr, at least for the first few months and then afterwards, you can start experimenting foods, to learn what you can and cannot tolerate.
Sweets is a big addiction. Be careful, be honest and let your nutritionist know so they can help with alternatives. I didn't know this , but it was a big eye opener. Last night my hubby spoke to a co-worker who he knew had the lapband and she knew I had mine. She's had her for 3 years, and recently said on Facebook , lapband failure, all I lost was 20 lbs. Well she didn't mention , that she ate candies all the time, drank shakes, sliders as they call them. She even had her 10cc band filled to 9ccs in effort to lose weight and all she could get down were shakes, not the protein kind, but the cool whip on the top kind , with ice cream. And now she is diagnoised with diabetes and with poor leg circulation because of it.
Its not you wanting that stuff its your body. Its not a craving that's gonna be turned off overnight, but its one you have to learn to control. I'm the biggest whiner/baby because I can't eat something anymore, But if I look at the scale my body is following along, its my mind that is kicking and screaming. And I do indulge myself in a bite of pasta here or bread there, but I've gotten to where that's enough.
You will be ok, we are rocks in all areas, but sometimes we don't see it because we have been told we were.
    I wish you the best!

thought about that, "If you didn't love me then, you're gonna love me now? my heart, soul and personality are the same, with more confidence. Ad a whole lot sexier, you missed out buddy!". I actually had someone ask if I had dieted and I said I got lapband and witch had the nerve to say oh you cheated,,, if looks could kill.
I did the lapband because my quality of life sucks, newly married, new grandma, and I did nothingI was jabba the hut on the sofa. I didn't want to continue that way or have my grandbaby remember me like that.

I understand your flustration. I felt very much the same. I have been told very little about what to eat, drink etc. for pre-op and after surgery. It has been very much a learning process.
Make a pest out of yourself!. I have learned from working in health care that the squeaky wheel gets the attention. That doesn't mean rude.....but it is very hard to ignor a patient if they are trying to understand what they need to do to be compliant.

My anesthesiologist gave me a cocktail too, said it would make me giggly and loopy, no sooner she put it in my iv I was out. She told hubby its not supoosed to do that.
I dry heave most every morning (from both ends hubby says) but I told him, I'd rather get them out (over the sink) then have to deal with them during day.
Rest rest rest, girl, I'm 6 weeks out and I still take naps when possible. As hubby says, this was an assault on your body let it heal. Follow your hubby's directions and things should be good!
