I agree with the others, stick with what your doctor told you. Unless the guy working at the nutrition store moonlights as a Bariatric Surgeon during his off hours, he's not the expert, your doctor is.

mis 73, i hope you dont think that im trying to "one up" you with a funny story, but i had a funny nsv too recently. Im 53 yrs old, ive been banded 8 weeks ( Dec 13th), down from 225 to 208. im 5'3 and have always carried my weight fairly well, a co worker said "theres no way you're 225 !" but i was...... anyway .... i dress nicely and think i look good for being at 208 lbs. and have been getting lots of compliments. recently my hubby and his male co-worker came through my workplace and hubby introduced us. after they left the co-worker said to my husband " i hope you dont take this the wrong way, but when you told me in december that your wife was having lap band surgery, i pictured a bowling ball on legs ! ! she looks great !!" i got a huge laugh out of that one , and im still laughing. God bless that guy !!!

That is too funny yet oh so wonderful for you!!! Splurge a little, at least on the underwear... I do understand not wanting to spend the money. My mom hasn't pulled out her sewing machie in awhile. I told her she will have to take in some of my pants. Perhaps the only new thing I will by for awhile are bras and panties. Again, WONDERFUL!!!!

Sounds like you should have picked up a few more things while shopping at Walmart. I have multiple sizes in my closet so fortunately I will have stuff that fits to wear when I start really losing good.
    Cngrats on the weight loss.

I had to share this because I thought it was pretty funny...
So I'm now down over 44 pounds and I haven't replaced any of my clothes yet. I'm holding out until 50 pounds then I'll pick up a couple things. Meanwhile, I'm very aware of how big my clothes are currently fitting me, including under garments.
Tonight I was in Walmart with my son, daughter, and her boyfriend. It was rather crowded and I was pushing a very full cart of food. As always, I had my cell phone in my pocket. I am wearing cotton pants with an elastic waist, however, apparently the elastic isn't helping because I realized halfway through the store my pants kept sliding down my hips with every step. So I take the cell phone out of my pocket to stop the pulling, and I think all is fine.
Well apparently my underwear are too big now, too. As I walked, I could feel them slipping down my hips. I kept putting my hands in my pockets trying to discreetly hike them back up, but eventually they'd slipped too low and it was a lost cause. I was stuck walking through Walmart with my undies nowhere near the parts they are meant to protect.
By the time I got to my car, the waist band of my underwear was literally under my bottom, hanging out around my thighs, only being kept on at all by the crotch of my pants!! The kids and I all had a good laugh!

The things you ate were high in carbs, fat, and sodium. I would not doubt if it was a combination of both the diet and salt. Today is a new day....dont look back and get stuck on what went wrong, look forward and make the changes that can affect your future. You cant change the past, but you have full control over your future

Unfortunately yes, it is possible. The reason being all the foods you listed are high in both fat and carbs. Even the fish from Long John's Silvers is has more carbs than Protein because of the breading. Look I copied it here, this is for one piece of their fish:
    Calories: 260
    Total fat: 16g
    Sat. fat: 4g
    Carb: 17g
    Protein: 12g
Still, I wouldn't beat yourself up. Look at it like this, at least you had your "oh crap" moment and got back on the bandwagon after only gaining 5 pounds. Some people gain 20, 40, even 50+ pounds back and still don't get back on board. I bet the 5 pounds will fall back off relatively fast once you're back on good, healthy foods again.

Just chalk it up to a learning experience and move ahead

well we women can always dig something up to feel guilty about! Seriously, you are eating less and moving more and the rest is personal medical information...I just watched the Star Jones interview and it made me sad that she was so viciously attacked for not telling about her WLS! She was very vulnerable and just trying to protect and take care of herself! Its a great interview I recommend it...I really never told anyone but huz and daughter and I am glad for it...

Oh you don't want to be on those pills. As stated before they are highly addictive. Why pay all that money to have the surgery and take pills? It seems to defeat the purpose. I'm surprised a doctor would describe these pills any longer after all the controversary that surrounds them. I took them years ago, looking for a quick fix, but of course gained all the weight back once I stopped taking them.

One fill isn't very much, most people need at least 2 or 3 before feeling restriction.
Phentermine is by prescription only and it is addictive. It's essentially speed. If you have high blood pressure or heart problems, it's particularly unsafe. You can only get it through a doctor.
Phentermine is a quick fix. I took it many years ago, and I would strongly suggest against it. When you stop taking it, you'll gain back every pound and then some. If your body becomes to immune to it (and if you take it long enough, it will) again, you'll gain the weight right back.
Just my opinion, but you need to give your band time to work. One fill isn't enough, you need to be patient until you get some restriction.

I had my first real NSV today. It only took 47 pounds. Haha!
I went to the salon to have my hair done today, I have been going to this salon for years. When I was checking out the 2 Receptionist kept telling me how great I was looking. They sure had me feeling good !
Then they were having a free T-shirt giveaway. So when they asked what size I wanted, I asked what the fit was like, the receptionist held up a medium and said this would fit you. I said no, I didn't think so, but thank you !! I haven't worn a medium anything in YEARS. I can't even really remember ever wearing a medium.
She insisted that it would, so I took it and said well if it doesn't now it will soon enough.
    What a great feeling !!
It does fit although it is a little too snug for my taste, I don't think it looks great.
    But soon it will !!!

Those first couple weeks (or month in my case) absolutely suck, no doubt about. I never thought I'd be so thrilled with mashed potatoes as I was after 4 weeks of liquids! But I stuck to it and did what my doctor said- and I'm so glad I did.
What bothers me about the OP is the "whatever, I'm over it" attitude. No one is trying to pass judgement, but you need to realize by cheating this soon pre-op you're risking serious damage to your stomach. It sucks, we get it, but you really need to look at this phase as your healing period not a diet period. You need to give your stomach time to heal or you're going to find yourself back in the operating room for torn stitches.
I also totally agree with Elcee. I don't think she was being harsh at all, she was being honest and not coddling the OP. Coddling won't help any of us- the facts and the truth will.

Hello friends! I am so excited right now that I can't hardly sit still! I am scheduled to be banded March 1st by Dr. John Weaver in CO. I am 31 yrs old and live in Blue Springs, MO, so I'll be driving 9 hrs. The great part is that my in-laws are going as well, so we are making a 5 day mini-vacation out of the deal. I've never seen the mountains, so I'm super stoked! We have 4 kids that keep me VERY busy, 3 in school. I have the best husband a girl could ask for, but when it came to being banded, he was very hesitant. He likes the "fluff". Well, the "fluff" has worn out its welcome. I've been fighting my weight all my life, and am now at 225lbs. I've been able to lose weight in the past (for God's sake I could prob write a book on diet and nutrition) but never had the willpower to keep it off. So...here I am, now accepting the fact that I need help. I need something to physically stop this addiction. My mind is in a good place, and I'm ready to commit. I had my consult with Dr. Weaver this morn by phone, and tmrw morn is with the nutritionist, Paula. I start my pre-op diet Thurs of no carb/high Protein. Everyone there is AMAZING and sooo helpful. I'm not another number. I will keep posting as my journey continues!

Remember, your body can only process like 20-25 g Protein at a time, so doing a lot at once isn't going to help. I drink an powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate splendor shake in the morning- it does taste like chocolate milk to me- they have a sample pack with 2 chocolate, 2 vanilla, 2 strawberry, 2 unflavored and 2 chicken broth you can buy at unjury.com. I tried a bunch, this is my fave.
I also eat greek yogurt, it has a lot of Protein, and eat canned chicken or tuna (mix with a little no-fat mayo if you need it moist). I don't have any problems getting in my protein with these tips. I also keep track with my fitness pal, a free app on my android phone (not sure about iPhone). It lets me log all my food and exercise, and keeps track of my nutrients. Easy to track protein that way!

I also wanted to add to the previous post and say, the reason a lot of people's post op diets are a bit different (my doctor requires me to be on liquids 3 weeks followed by mushies where as other people go on mushies starting week 2) is because every doctors surgical technique is different. Some doctors suture the heck out of the band... what I mean is, the band is tied into place with a few sutures until your skin heals and natural forms its own sutures and holds the band into place. Other doctors such as mind, did not do too much suturing of his own (this is what he told me) because he prefers my body do the suturing rather than him do it which will lead to longer recovery and more pain.
So to reiterate, the reason why some doctors move patients into mushies and solids much more rapidly is because of their surgical technique, thus a much less likelihood of the band slipping.
This is to say, follow your doctors orders verbatim because only he and his stuff know what they did. Dont compare yourself or your diet to anyone else because everyone is different. So to read that some people start solids so quickly therefore its ok for me to do it, is a complete misunderstanding since everyone is different.

    Congratulations!!
Isn't it a wonderful feeling? It was so nice to step on my doctor's scale yesterday and be praised for my weight loss instead of lectured about how horribly overweight I am.
I can tell a difference since my fill yesterday, too. I ate lunch over 3 hours ago and I'm still not hungry- and that's a big improvement considering prior to the fill I was hungry every 2 hours.
    We can do this!

In mind I just knew that the pre-op diet will be the worst part of the process, however I knew that if I wanted to be a new me I had to make sacrifices. In the past the Protein Shakes that I had were horrible, I am please to say that the smoothie King Gladiator Straberry Low Carbohydrate Meal Replacement with 45 grams of Protein and 2 grams of card is the BEST.... just thought I'd share.
