After attending a seminar, I started thinking maybe I wanted to go with gastric bypass instead of the band. Then I met with my surgeon and he looked at my current BMI, where he felt I needed to be, my current health issues and my current exercise routine and he told me I would be very successful with the band, though he said it was my choice and he wasn't going to push me one way or the other. I chose the band and I'm only 2 weeks post op and have no regrets.

IMHO , people are looking for a "quick" fix and the sleeve and bypass may represent this to them, rapid weight loss no maintenance ect, I think the doctors push those surgeries as well as it requires nothing more of them after surgery , to each their own and its a VERY personal choice ,but for me the band is the only option

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a glass of wine, especially when you're counting the calories. I am a very firm believer that to be successful with any weight loss it has to be about moderation not deprivation. You are simply enjoying what you love in moderation.

Agree. I just want the newbies to know that they do not have to give up the things they love. All they have to do is manage them in moderation.

i do not have a fill and i am losing weight. i am proof you do NOT need a fill to lose weight. if you are not losing weight, you are not eating properly. you can eat 1/2 cup but if its cheap slider foods/high fat etc, its not helping...you need to be eating protein filled and filling foods, veggies and fruit and drinking ALOT.
i have followed you since you were banded and i know you teach and i know you have kids...but you got to do this for YOU>
the band will NOT make you not hungry or stop cravings. it is there to help you eat less. that is all...it will help you stay full longer.....and if you eat filling protein foods, you will be (satisfied).
its a matter of want power. if you want to lose weight, then do it.
dont wait for a doctor or a doctors visit it do it.
and when you get into the dr, then get that fill but until then, make it happen.

Let me be the contrarian here. This is a pity party and I'm not buying it? I agree with Dylan that your PCP may have some sway over getting you in. And I know if it were me, I'd demand they get me in or at the very least put me on a waiting list if someone should cancel. Hard to believe that an opening won't happen in the next 6 weeks?
You can't expect them to take your band right to where you were before the illness. Your stomach lining could be different now and you also need to show a willingness to eat like a bandster. You're starting all over again and that's the way I would approach it if I were your physician.
Have you looked at other clinics for a fill? It's easy to give up and if that's what you want you will. But if you really want this, you will find a way. I don't mean to be cruel but there's no way in hell I'd give up my dream so easily.

In December, I flew to Washington State (I'm in Michigan) and then drove back across the country with my boyfriend. Like you, I got stuck a lot. I also found myself relying on premade protein shakes a lot because of it. It's definitely a challenge to travel with the band because so much is out of your control as far as food choices.
I think a big part of my stuck problem was my nerves. I was so nervous about what to eat and getting stuck I think that stress alone made the band tighten up. Then of course once you're stuck your stomach swells so then it's like this nasty cycle of eating and getting stuck.
The good news is, within 24 hours of getting home and back into my comfort zone I was fine again.
I hope your vacation was great despite the eating challenges

Thanks Missy - nice to know I'm not alone. The vacation was awesome, we are already wanting to go back again. But next time I think I will be better prepared and take some shakes with me.

Overcoming emotional eating and grazing is hard. I know that's something I've always struggled with too. I find distracting myself helps. I know this is going to sound weird, but night is my hardest time, so I've kinda "trained" my brain. Every night I brush my teeth and take a hot bath when I feel the urge to graze. Now, it's like a signal to my brain "oh it's bath and clean teeth time, we're done eating for the night". I know it sounds weird but it's worked.
I also find keep safe food around for when I just have to have something. I really like both dill pickles and cucumbers. Both are zero calories, so when I need something I grab one.
    Hang in there.

Excellent post. I could comment on everything you wrote (in total agreement) but I won't get long winded and say only this- anyone who claims they are "perfect", that weight loss is easy, and they never become impatient or frustrated- IS LYING.
I have lost a lot of weight and I do exactly as my doctor and NUT advise 90% of the time, but that other 10%? I'm totally going off the path. And frustration? Dear Lord, I have been trying to lose this one stink'n pound for a week now. ONE STUPID POUND! You'd think after losing 199 just 1 more would be easy peasy, right? Pffft, stupid thing is clinging on for dear life AND invited a half pound friend over!
...and that is just my most recent frustration. There have been many before it and I'm sure there will be many after.
Keep doing what you're doing because you're doing so very great

You know, as awful as your current situation is, the silver lining is it's showing you how strong and committed you really are to getting healthy. You took responsibility for a little relapse into old habits but now you're right back in the game!
You're going to great, I have no doubts.
