Pre Op Weight Loss-Does It Stay Off?

Granted I'm only 12 days post op, but so far my weight just keeps dropping. Between the pre-op diet and the 12 days since surgery, I'm down over 30 pounds.
  2. Being newly banded just 11 days ago, those feelings of nerves combined with excitement are fresh in my mind. It really is a very minor surgery. I was truly shocked by the lack of pain around my incisions (I have 5 of them, no stitches). I was up walking to the bathroom before I even got out of recovery. My steri strips have come off them just in the last 2 days and they have healed beautifully. The only issue I had was with the gas they pump into your abdomen during surgery. It was a bit painful and uncomfortable. My best advice is to walk as much as you can handle because it really does help to work that air out. So far, I'm doing well. I'm anxious for my first fill on February 6th. As of this past Friday, I've already lost 30 pounds just from the pre-surgical diet and a week post op. I definitely am glad I did this so far! Best of luck to you and be sure to let us know how it goes!

    Bleeding At Port Incision

I would call your doctor to be on the safe side. It could be something as harmless as what they call a hematoma- a build up or fluids or blood under the skin that is simply escaping. It's not uncommon after surgeries. However, just in case it's something more, do give them a call tomorrow. Better safe than sorry. Best wishes.

    Stuck On 30

First, you need to tell your surgeon about the pain and coughing. it's very likely your band is too tight and some of the saline needs to be removed. If that is the case it's important you do so you don't risk damage to your stomach. If I were you, I would keep a food journal for a week. Write down everything you eat. Then, take that journal to the dietitian so they can go over it with you. By seeing what you're eating, they will be able to see where you need to make changes. Really, it's the only way you'd going to get sound advice.
  5. There's a whole progression of foods, the length of time you're at each stage greatly depends on your surgeon. The one thing that seems to be consistent is the stages themselves: -clear liquids -full liquids -mushies/soft food -solid food Have you met with a dietitian? If not you really should, because eating can be a bit tricky. I'm 10 days post-op and constantly going back to my reference material as I ready for the next stage in foods. Best of luck to you!

    Choices Of Pre-Op Foods...

For pre-op, substituting low fat cottage cheese for yogurt would probably be fine. However, post-op you won't be able to because cottage cheese has chunks.

    Hello From A Lapband Newbie!

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! I have to say, I actually shocked myself when I saw my doc this past Friday. Heck, I shocked him too. I'm down 30 pounds already. 19 of that was lost during the pre-surgical diet 2 weeks prior, and 11 of that was lost the first week after surgery. He kept rechecking his past notes, even re-weighed me. He finally says "How you do this?" I just laughed and responded "Because I'm doing exactly as I'm told and I'm very committed to this". Regardless, it REALLY made me feel good and gave me added incentive to keep going. I'm still on liquids and I gotta be honest, it kinda sucks. I'm starting to get hungry again. Strained creamed Soups and Protein drinks just aren't keeping me full very long anymore. I'm anxious to see my surgeon in a couple weeks and get my first fill- not to mention food I can actually chew! Thanks again all

    Post Op And Hungry

I'm not sure, but it sounds like what my doc calls "full liquids". That consists of all the clear diet stuff but also : Skim or 1% milk Low calorie Yogurt Dannon Light’n Fit® Strained cream Soups made with fat-free milk sugar-free pudding fruit juice Soft melon or pureed soft fruit Canned fruit in juice, rinsed and drained Diluted oatmeal or grits Diluted cream of wheat Pureed carrots, green Beans, or peas Sherbet I may be wrong, but it sounds like maybe this is what you're talking about?

2 Weeks 2 Day Post Op..

I'm a week post surgery and still on liquids. I won't even be on mushies for another 2 weeks. I would tend to agree with the others, I'm guessing the fish with the crust was just too much for your tummy to handle this soon. I'm sure it'll subside as the food slowly passes. I know I feel uncomfortably full very easily right now. I had a cup of strained cream of chicken Soup a half hour ago, and I still feel like I just over-ate a Thanksgiving dinner. I'm that full. Give your tummy a break tonight, walk if you can to help it move through faster, and maybe go a little gentler for a couple weeks.
  12. Lost a little over 10 pounds this first week post banding. Very excited!

    Bm..help????

I was banded on Jan 6th, and just finally had a BM 2 days ago. I was really worried too. However, when you consider how little food (liquids) we're consuming, it's to be expected. As long as you're passing gas, you're ok. I'd give it another day or two, and if you're still worried, call your doc.

    Dressed To The 0's?

I was just banded a week ago. You get to wear a nifty (yes that's sarcasm lol) hospital gown. That's it. After you're out of surgery and in your hospital room, you can of course put on a robe. In fact, I suggest bringing both a robe and slippers from home because they will want you up and walking the halls fairly soon.

    Bummed

A couple things to keep in mind, muscle weighs more than fat. If you stepped up your exercise routine, there's a very real possibility you gained muscle though fat lost inches. If I were you, I'd take all your measurements, and watch them as much as you watch the scale. It's not uncommon at all to see your waist and thigh size go down while the scale actually goes up a couple pounds. Then, you'll see the numbers start to fall again as more fat comes off the muscle mass is a little more stabilized. Also, could it be Water weight? As a woman, that time of the month also makes me avoid the scale because I know I'll be up.

Getting Banded Monday, Need Help With Grocery List

I was just banded a week ago, so this is still very fresh in my mind lol. Clear juices, like apple and white grape. Make sure they're "no sugar added" so there's less a risk of upsetting your tummy. broth, low sodium is best so you don't retain fluids making the bloat feel even worse. Skim Milk sugar free Popsicles (they gave me these in the hospital) Sugar free Jello I'm sitting here drinking a Diet Snapple Rasberry tea right now, and it's delicious! The Diet Peach is really good, too. Danon also makes these little 8oz bottles of Water. I absolutely love them, because it makes it very easy to grab one and keep track of my Fluid intake. Oh don't forget a Multivitamin, too. I'd suggest chewable or liquid.
  17. Hi, this is my first post here. I was just banded a week ago today, January 6th. I had horrible chest and abdominal pain. It was unrelenting for the first couple of days, in fact they even did an EKG to be sure it wasn't my heart. The nurses kept nagging me "you need breath deep, you need to practice breathing" and I was like "how am I supposed to breath when it hurts to?" It was awful. Thankfully, I'm fine now. It was all that dang air they pump into your abdominal cavity for the surgery. It isn't normal "gas", because it's not in your digestive system, which means it can't be "passed" or burped out. Your body has to reabsorb it. It takes time, but I promise you, all that pressure will go away. I know it hurts and I know it's hard, but try to walk as much as you can stand. It really does help to work that out of you. If someone told me just 3 days ago I'd be running around town like normal today, I'd have laughed at them. But... I feel just fine and am pain free. Hang in there.
