Are you eating well ? What is your daily average calories ? Are you getting your Protein quota and liquids in ? Are you taking your Vitamins ? Have you had any nutritional blood works done lately ? Sorry if this sounds intrusive but it does really matter if we are to give you a quality answer.
I am due my 3 monthly B12 shot and I really know its due because I feel incredibly worn out and old again. In 2 weeks I will be running around like the ever ready bunny on the battery advert.

Because of back and other physical issues, I got a referral from pain management. I also wrote a letter stating my weight loss, the crucial role exercise plays in maintenance & the way the excess skin impedes and adds to my physical limitations.

They not only covered panniculectomy but the abdominoplasty as well!

    Best of luck

It was a long time ago, I'm not completely sure. Though, I had been forced to retire on disability, so most likely was NY Medicaid or managed Medicaid.

That's why I was in total shock at the approval........for BOTH!!

    Good luck!

OMG, three ligaments - argh! Cringing at the very thought of how much pain you were in. Yeah, these sorts of injuries are the long-haul type.
I tore the ACL off the bone in my OTHER knee in a skiing accident way back in 2002, so at least I'm already familiar with the very long process of soft-tissue damage never healing 100%. I did get a ligament reconstruction a year later. It's now going to be my "good knee" 🙃. I swear, it's like I just have it in for knee ligaments. Like they've personally offended me over the years.

That SO sucks!! I KNOW because I've been there. 2005-ish

Tibeal plateau fracture- fractured down the center of my tibea. ANY weight and it could shatter. No weight bearing for a while. Tore ACL, MCL, PCL. These took upwards of a year of therapy and a cadaver ACL to heal. I still use a brace for stability during certain activities. Soft tissue injuries are FAR worse than bone.

Everyone is different and hopefully you heal quicker and stronger 🤞🏼

I was going to reply, but @Nepenthe44 hit all the points I intended to mention.
For the record, I'm not carb averse, it's just that carbs do nothing to help avoid excess muscle catabolism. Sufficient Protein is what you need to help keep you from losing too much muscle mass. That's one of the primary reasons all post bariatric surgery diets emphasize a protein forward approach.

If you have a buddy, I like to play tennis for fun and good exercise. Sometimes basketball. Really any sport that you find fun is good exercise and keeps you moving.
I always wanted to be an avid runner but just cant. haha Even after loosing a ton of weight and being the most fit of my life I just CAN NOT RUN!

I second the Protein Shake. Or maybe meat and cheese squares. Everyone worries about “grazing” but I’m not sure if it really is bad if you actually portion out a lunch or dinner and only eat that amount just over a longer period of time?? By definition it may be grazing but that doesn’t mean it is necessarily problematic?? It could be but I would ask my surgeon about this. Given your schedule it may be the only way you can get in enough Protein.

Motivation is the key to long term success. It's been eight years since I've been overweight. I'm now at a point where I do NOT have uncontrollable cravings & am able to eat what I want as long as I balance the 'splurges' with healthy choices. Exercise is also key to long term success, as your weight goes down, your body will use less calories in general, exercise will fill in that growing gap between what you take in and what you burn off.

Then find something that you can enjoy and stick with. It is vitally important to change your relationship with food & exercise, one small step at a time, right from the start. Otherwise, the surgery was for nothing. The surgery is a tool only.

Hi Writergirl, just curious: if your insurance will pay for skin removal sx, why wouldn’t you be able to choose the surgeon? Cosmetic surgeons do panniculectomies, and the results might be be aesthetically pleasing……

Congrats on beginning this journey! In the beginning it seems overwhelming, set small, manageable goals and non-food rewards for reaching them. That makes it much easier. Follow your surgeon's diet plan. At first it is very difficult as you will have head hunger, serious cravings. Drink Water, read, adult coloring books, apps on your phone, other hobbies, can all help you get past those first few weeks. THEN you will have lost a significant amount, mostly water, but still, it feels amazing to see the pounds go away!

A mantra I kept telling myself is "carbs beget carbs" this helped a lot. As I thought about having an old FAV, I'd be reminded that it will only make my cravings worse.

Yes, absolutely consult with your doctor and get an RX for PT. Ask the therapist, specifically, to show you things that you can do at home, safely.

Therabands might be a start, but I've no idea what strength you'd begin with, that's where PT comes in.

Hi there, I don’t have exactly what you are looking for but have some thoughts about confidence. I have just scheduled a few consults and am >300 lbs and have continued to date. Not everyone is interested in me. That’s fine and I don’t let that stop me. Therapy has gotten me to a place where I see myself as strong and confident despite my imperfections
I found reading Brene Brown’s books or watching some of her Ted talks on the power of vulnerability, shame, and the power of imperfection very useful.
Now there is weight/size but after surgery there may be extra skin, stretch marks, and even regain so my one piece of advice is to try to think of all of those physical “flaws” as battle scars from fighting a disease that not everyone has to deal with.
If people you date don’t give you the respect you deserve then screw them. You are strong in your imperfection and deserve better.

    Definitely speak with your nutritionist.
Are you tracking EVERY bite, even tastes while cooking add up. That was a big one for me.
It may just be a dreaded stall. During stalls, your body is catching up. While you may not lose pounds, you may lose inches as things redistribute.

Stick with it, it'll work out if you follow the instructions of your nut and keep exercising. Sounds like you're doing a great job!
