    Congrats! You are doing great! The whole absolute change in the amount of food intake with the sleeve is still so surprising to me. So glad I have been sleeved.

    It Finally Happened.

    Congratulations!! You have done terrific so far! Kudo to your hubs for all the support. Your stomach will need the time to heal - and it takes time. Just follow your docs instructions, get in as much water and protein (shakes) as possible and you will continue to do marvelously! Yeah!
  3. Well interesting. I personally wasn't at all hungry my 2nd week post-op, but I was hurting to be too hungry. It might be head hunger? Anyway, drink your protein shakes and get protein in as much as possible. It will help with hunger. I consumed the Premier protein shakes I got at Costco, pre-made and easy. I would add soy milk and a couple scoops of Beneprotein powder to them - to get in more protein and the soy milk was added for also a little more protein, but mostly because I think the shakes are a bit too sweet. Others on this site will be giving their advice also. Best of luck to you.

    I Can't Believe I'm On My Way!

    Congrats on getting sleeved. It definitely is life changing and in a positive way in many many respects, for me. Take it slow and follow the instructions given and, keep your positive out look!

    7 Weeks Post-Op - Some Thoughts...

    Had a some rough food times from week 6 to now week 7 post-op. I tried to move from the pureed phase into more solid food and was not very successful in keeping any food down. I was having to throw it up, which is something that is quite foreign to me. However, in just the past two days, I've been able to eat more solid food with no issue. I've lost 39lbs in 7weeks. I think this is fan-freaking-tastic! However, I have noticed the weight loss is slowing down a bit. I am also working out pretty intensely to taking long walks 5-6 times a week. I am also down two sizes and finding I don't have very many clothes I can wear in my wardrobe anymore. Believe me, I am absolutely not complaining about this!! I am so ok with buying new clothes, however, I'll likely buy just a couple items along the way until my final resting/goal weight! I've got a huge amount of great clothes from size 22-18 that are all bagged up and ready to be given away or donated. I might try to sell some at the Buffalo Exchange (resale shop) as I still have tags on several items. So, I still find lots of comfort going back to the protein shakes and I think they will be a standard in my diet from now on. I'm craving raw veggies and a nice mixed greens salad! Can't wait to be able to have that and keep it down. All is wonderful. I am so happy that I got sleeved and I can't wait to rock some cute Spring and Summer clothing (rather than dread the 'skin showing seasons')!!! I am actually looking forward to wearing cute skirts, shorts and a bathing suit!!! I turn 50 in August and you bet I'm going to be on the beach in a bathing suit and struttin' it! It is so weird to actually be able to look forward to that, when I thought I would never be able to get there before. One Love.

    Hungry As Hell, But Scared To Eat. It Hurts Going Down!

    Wait until you get to about the 7th week or 8th week! I will get better. I've had the same thing. My hardest week was between week 6 and 7, I would throw-up almost everything except for the protein shakes. I'm just now past the 7 week point and I can finally eat some sort of solid food. I was getting rather concerned for a bit, but....each day truly gets better!

    Best of luck to YOU! I can honestly say it is the best thing I've ever done for myself. It is not an easy road at first, but each day gets better. You will be very successful. Just takes a positive and motivated attitude and it appears you have that!

    Very cool! I, however, have not lost my love of chocolate. However, I have lost the desire to eat it until gone. One, maybe two small pieces are now just fine (where before, it would be many many pieces). Good going!

    7 Weeks Check Up!

    I hear you sister! I'm at my 7wk post-op point. I've lost 39lbs (well it is actually 41 on my home scale, but I'm officially going by my gym scale). I've got the clothes issue also. I just hate to spend $ on clothing if I'm only going to wear it for a month or less - as I expect to continue to drop sizes. But, I'm actually thrilled to have the problem. Let Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Old Navy be your friends! Keep up the good work -You loser!!!!!! You can call me a loser any time!

    Salad

    Hello Swimmer! I believe we are surgi-sistas! I am also 7 weeks post-op - and wondering the same thing! I'm craving a bunch of raw veggies and a lettuce salad. I have just in the past two days noticed I can actually eat some solid food (with a lot of chewing) and not feel heartburn or have to throw-up (which has been the case over week 6 post-op). Thanks for prompting this question.

    5 Wks Post-Op - 35Lbs Gone!

    Well, everything is going great! I've lost 35 lbs so far! Very very happy about that. I had my 4wk follow-up visit last Tuesday also. My doc was very pleased with my status/progress and he has encouraged me to keep a food diary. I know I'm suppose to do that, but it is just not my thing. I just do not like to keep a food diary. I went through that numerous diets before on WW and all other diets. To me, my new sleeved stomach, isn't a diet, it is a new way of life, living and eating. I know exactly what I'm eating these days - protein first and there is not much room for anything else. I did experience the dreaded 'sliming' last Friday. I thought it was a myth, but it is not. I thought I could eat a little something - a few bites of firm tofu, cooked yellow beets and some quinoa salad. I chewed and chewed and chewed it up so it was kind like a puree (since last week and this week I'm on the 2wk pureed phase), but...immediately afterwards, I was so sick and knew it wasn't going to stay down. It didn't and along came the sliming. Ok, can't talk about it much as it starts to turn my stomach again. Needless to say, it was a lesson. Gotta take this eating thing super slow. So, since then, I've been back on liquids, yogurt, silken tofu, soups. I'm making a pureed curried sweet potato soup this evening and will make it kinda thick to move more into the purees. I guess as time goes on, I will at some point eat solid food, but it seems like that is down the road. I would so love a raw green salad with all kinds of veg in it...someday. It still continues to floor me knowing the amount of food or nutrition I put in my body compared to the amount pre-sleeve. I'm now in my..what I considered pre-sleeve, my skinny jeans, which will soon be my fat jeans! It's nice to get rid of my 2X and 3X ugly clothing. Well, a lot of it was very nice, but I have shrunk out of them. Hee hee!!! One Love.

    Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

    So glad you are here to tell your story - and your story does need to be told. I agree with the above post, you didn't almost die from vsg surgery, but from an incompetent medical care. Get copies of all your records, notes and everything. They are your records! Make sure your document everything, your thoughts, everything. Find a medical expert that will back you and testify on your behalf. AND, let everyone know where this malpractice took place and who the doc in charge of your care was. Again, I'm so glad you are alive and able to tell your story. Hopefully you are also on you way to great health and your sleeve will be your cherished tool.

    I Am Scared And Trying To Keep The Faith

    Yes, I agree - PUT THE SCALE AWAY! I weigh myself every 3-4 days. If I weighed myself 3-4 times a day I would go WACKO! Get your fluids - water- in, all of it! Follow the instructions for fluids and foods. Eat 4oz at a time, 4-5 times a day - put protein powder (Beneprotein) in pureed soups, protein shakes, etc. Eat mushies until you can eat more solid foods. Baked sweet potatoes, soft tofu, hummus, legumes, etc. - nutritious food, not fatty or sugary foods. YOU HAVE THE POWER to take care of yourself and your health. If you are dehydrated at this point out its because you aren't getting enough fluids in. They tell you not to use a straw, but if it helps to get fluids in, use a straw. I do. Think about the positive and direct your actions in a positive direction. Best to you.

    Finally! Countdown Has Begun!

    Congrats! I'm excited for you. I'm loving my sleeve. The process for me took about 8 months and that was just with appointments and getting approval, not with a pre-op diet (which I didn't do and wasn't asked to do). Each location is different. I am so glad I have been sleeved. It is not easy with the recoup, but for me so well worth it. I'm now 6 weeks post-op. The past 6 weeks have been challenging and life changing. Just follow all the instructions, know you will have pain (it is major surgery!), but also know that each day gets better and better. Yeah!!!

    Spaghetti Squash?

    Depending on how you cook it and what you put on it...a cup of plain spaghetti squash is like 45 calories, 1g Protein, 10 g carbohydrates and some Fiber. It does have some good Vitamins and Calcium, but it also has good cartenoids, that are good for the body in producing Vitamin A that helps fight off disease. It's a superior alternate to pasta/spaghetti. A nice thick marinara on some baked spaghetti squash is delish!

    1 Month!

    Congrats!! It is truly those little things that all add up and just make you feel terrific! I'm at 5 weeks post-op and melting away! I am still on liquid and purees as I'm just not able to eat anything much of substance. But, that is ok with me. I'll take the eating part super slow. So happy for you!

    I hear you! I'm pretty certain most everyone that is thinking about having this surgery and those have have, have all the same fears, thoughts, concerns, etc. I know I did. I had tried every diet possible and would lose weight but it always came back. I was on anti-depressants for the past 3-4 years. Once I got sleeved, I realized that felt like I had been in hibernation for the past 3-4-5 years and I suddenly woke up and wanted to really live life! The sleeve changes your life. It is not an easy surgery. It is major surgery. When you are going through it, it is so real and pain is real. But, it passes and each day gets better. I was sleeved on 1/17/12. It is the best decision I've ever made and I am so happy I did it. I've blogged about my experience a bit, so feel free to check out my blog. I hope for you the best and peace of mind. I agree with LilMssDiva, venting and asking questions on this site does help a lot! We are all here to help and have this one thing in common, but as you will find, lots of things in common.

    Considering A Real Diet

    I highly recommend you watch a terrific movie called - Forks Over Knives - http://www.forksoverknives.com/. It will help tremendously with your diet. If anything it is very enlightening and will likely change at least one thing for the positive with anyone's diet. You are doing great! I can't wait to get under 200lbs, but I know that is just around the corner. One Love.

    Protein Is Such A Pain!

    Hi! I'm 5 weeks out also. Op date was 1/17/12. So, I put Beneprotein in everything. I even add a scoop or two to the Premier Protein shakes that I get at costco, and to greek yogurt. I figure if I have one Premier Protein shake with two scoops of Beneprotien and 4-8oz of soy milk (I just think the shakes are a little too sweet, but they are good), that is 42-46g of protein right there (I drink this in two different settings throughout the day. Then have one Chobani Greek Yogurt (and yes, I am having the ones with fruit in them) with one scoop of Beneprotein, that is 20g. Right there is 62-66g of protein. I have this just about every day. If I have a cup of Soup, I'll put Beneprotein in that also. My goal is to get at the very least 60g of protein in each day and any more is great. I'll usually also have 4-6 oz of some custard tofu - I get it from an asian market. It is like super silken tofu, 100% tofu/soy Beans. I heat that up and pour a ginger syrup over it. That is additional protein. I might have to give the Syntrex nectar products a try. Thanks.
