When you say liquid, there are 2 types, a clear liquid diet and full liquid. Not sure which you will be on but typically ppl are on clear first then full liquid.
    For clear liquid I had:
    Chicken/Beef Broth
G2 or Vitamin Water (for the electrolytes)
    Jello
Herbal Tea (Chamomile did wonders for my stomach)
Once I progressed to full liquid (the liquid should roll off spoon like milk)
100 calorie greek yogurt that has been thinned with skim milk and strained to remove fruit seeds/bits
Cream soups (potato, cheese, broccoli) that are made with skim milk, and then thinned with skim milk and strained
I made peanut butter bananna smoothies using skim milk, greek yogurt, banana, and PB2 (powdered peanut butter) IT WAS DELISH (just strain first)
Also Trop 50 OJ cut with 50% water has been a great way for me to get a big old scoop of protein powder down in the morning.
I've also had Coco wheats made with skim milk, thinned with skim milk and a little sweetener.
Don't go out and buy a ton b/c you are going to be shocked at how little you can actually consume!!
I'll be moving to puree/soft foods in about a week so I'll let you know what stuff seems to work well for that stage

Good luck girlfriend! You have a positive attitude which is half the battle!! I was sleeved on July 2nd and have lost 129 lbs to date. I told EVERYBODY and I'm proud of it. There is one person in my family who didn't support my choice, but that's her problem. My friends have been super supportive. Just remember...it's not an easy fix, you still have to work at it. Now that I'm almost 6 months out, there are a lot more foods that I can eat that I couldn't at first, it's come to the point where I have to make the right choices. My biggest advice to you after the surgery is GET YOUR PROTEIN. I can't stress that enough. Protein, protein, protein. I still have a Carnation milk chocolate no sugar added protein shake with 1% milk every morning. Oh yah, take lots of before and after pictures too!

I did not tell a lot of people but my 3 older children, my Dh, my 3 friends and, a cousin who has G. Bypass surgery. Didn't want anyone trying to talk me down or off. Lol I did not tell work folks either. Waiting for my coordinator to submit to the insurance then a date. Then will I tell my boss. Probably that I'm just having surgery.
    Good luck on your surgery!

I also didn't tell anyone but my grown kids, my husband and my best friend. I didn't need anyone telling me that I shouldn't do the surgery when I had already tried every diet under the sun and failed. My health was simply going down hill, so it was pretty much my last option. I had my surgery on December 5 and I haven't had any problems. I did what my doctor said and I have not rushed things. After hearing some of the terrible stories about leaks and eating too much and being sick, no way. I ate about a 1/2 of a scramble egg this morning being careful to go slow and chew, chew, chew. I eat potato soup, beans mashed a little with mozzarella cheese melted on top. Just don't eat very much, a couple of table spoons. I have lost 25lbs and I am glad I made the decision to be a healthier me. Good luck the both of you with your surgeries and keep us posted.

Good luck! I'm supposed to get sleeved about the same time as you. Can't figure out how to add you to my friends list. If you know how, add me to yours.
You are probably wise to do the liquids. My surgeon is not very strict either. He did say it will make things easier because rapid weight gain comes from your stomach and makes visibility better. So I'm with you, going to do it. After reading all these horror stories, I figure do everything possible.
It's great that you are excited. After joining this site and reading all the things that went wrong, I have been thinking about canceling surgery. One lady sent me a great support letter so I printed it off and look at it when I start to freak out.
Like you I'm not telling anyone about the surgery.

The purpose of the liquid diet is to shrink your liver some to make it easier for the surgeon to get around during surgery. Most doctors will want you to do at least a one day liquid diet, but all are different. I had to do a one week liquid diet.
When in doubt, always ask your surgeon what he/she would like for you to do to prepare for surgery. Congratulations and good luck on your journey!!

As your surgeon again but if they say no, you should be fine. I was supposed to do a liquid diet but I struggled with it due to migraine problems. In the end I was pretty much taken off of it and my surgery was textbook. It all depends on your body (low bmi vs high bmi), your health, and your surgeon. My cousin just had the same surgery and was on a 2-3 week liquid only diet and followed to the tee and still had problems with her liver being to hard (she used to be a heavy drinker so I'm sure that played a part) but they were able to do her surgery regardless - just took longer. Don't worry :-)

I just wanted to add that I had a low BMI of 33 at surgery and I was not required to do the pre-op liquid diet, but voluntarily did so the day before surgery. When I asked my doc he said the higher your BMI the fattier your liver is, so the higher the BMI the longer the pre-op diet because they want to strip your liver of the fatty acids that A.) do shrink your liver and B.) don't make it as slippery and slimey to work wtih before surgery. IF you are a low BMI of 35 or under they normally do NOT require a 1 to 2 week preop diet. However all surgical procedures are the same for the most part and you cannot have liquids or foods after midnight the evening before your surgery (they want your stomach extra empty). And it never hurts to check in with your doc either if you're concerned.
