Hey! My doctor states three meals per day (no grazing in between) of 1/2c serving sizes. So 4 oz. is a 1/2c serving size. However with that said, I'm three weeks out and I eat a ful 6oz greek yogurt. I called my nutritionist today and told her I felt like I was eating more than 1/2c and she said at this point I should be working up to 3/4c. As far as liquids, I'm supposed to "sip" all day long. They say you can get 4-6oz liquid per hour. I have been able to get 8-10 give or take of water, but I'm also not timing it to a tee. I just drink everytime I think about it, still making sure I stop 15 min. before and 1/2hr after a meal. SOOOOO much to keep straight!
  2. I have tried WW before, with of course no success among every other diet known to man. However I will say WW has the most sound nutritional value if you compare most plans. I think for now I'm sticking hard core to my nutritionists plan, but could see myself as I add more things to my diet adapting to WW. Congrats on your weightloss since surgery!

    Thanks For The Invite!

Great job LBBarbie! I know I looked at the calendar today and realized I'm three weeks post-op! Its kind of all becoming habit now. Best decision I've ever made! My first fill is Feb 9th and my goal is to be down at LEAST another 5lbs. by then for a total of 25lb but even more than the scale, I'm feeling it in my close. I had a girl at work today- wow, look at your butt! You can really tell you are losing! I'll take it.

    Thanks For The Invite!

If you have alchohol pads or rubbing alchohol, put a little on a cotton ball and wave under your nose taking a few "whiffs". There is something with alchohol that helps the receptors for nausea. We use it in recover rooms all the time! Hope that helps.

    Self Fills

As a nurse, I agree with most of the comments on here. I wouldn't even consider a self fill. I'm not a mechanic, so I wouldn't take my engine apart because it was too expensive at the local garage. Personally, the financial end of this surgery was something that I had to truly consider. I understood the full impact before I had the surgery. #1) You are at HUGE risks of infection. I've seen and taken care of patients who start out with a little infection and then it goes septic. People die from this. I can't stress that enough. #2) There ARE people who go to Mexico still to this day and get fills here in the US. You need to do further research and not take the easy way out. You are NOT A TRAINED or QUALIFIED person to do such a thing. #3) I would love to see the qualifications/training of the nurse who is doing "fill parties". Sounds irrisponsible and unprofessional and not within the scope of her practice to be doing such a thing. If it were, there would be more nurses doing it and she should be careful that her nursing license isn't in jeopardy. #4) Overfilling. You CAN overfill your band, cause further erosion and major complication! I cannot implore you enough to look at other options. I will pray that you find a better solution because I think if you do enough research you will find one. Please don't put your life in jeopardy by doing this.
  6. For the first five days I thought something was wrong because although I didn't have the classic shoulder gas pain, anytime I would take a deep breath, it would literally stab my left side. I was afraid something was wrong with the port. When I went to the follow up appt. 6 days later, my doctor said, "hmm. I'm not sure why that would be doing that". Wasnt very re-assured. I said well if it doesn't go away at what point do you want a phone call. He assured me then it is probably gas and should go away. It did. I would though call your surgeon if you have any concerns. This site is great and although we all have similar symptoms at times, we're not doctors. Just make sure you keep an eye on things and consult with your surgeon as well. Thats what they are there for.
  7. Most insurances require a five year weight history. Also, if you have other co-morbidities that is considered as well. Good luck to you!

I was supposed to be on clears WITH protein shakes 1 week so I think if you take it slow, but of course I'm not your surgeon. Make sure if you do cream of chicken you take OUT the chicken and REALLY only do 1/4c-1/2c. Mags

    Zumba And Lapband

I had surgery 1/10/12, follow up was 1/16/12, and I started ZuMbA on on the 19th. (Yes my Dr. cleared me). I of course started out making major modifications as to be safe and feel "ok" while doing it. Now I'm full on for the most part. Absolutely LOVE it! I just started, so don't really have a weightloss correlation to tell you about, but I'll let you know!
  13. They usually say about 4-6oz per hour on liquid, but agree that you should see how you feel. I was drinking my protein shakes waaaayyyy too fast the first couple of days and could tell. Everyone's body is different. Definitely call your doctor with any specific questions though!
  14. SO awesome Suzie! Wow 40lbs, such an inspiration! I know what you mean about keeping protein drinks in your car. I have a baby container (literally purchased in the baby aisle) that has three sections. They each fit one scoop (20g protein) powder in it and I ALWAYS have my shaker with me. I just never want to be somewhere and give in because I'm not prepared. I went out to eat at one of our favorite italian restaurants where I would normally consume about three beer bread rolls, 1/2 of a huge cheese garlic bread and then a full plate of pasta. TONIGHT though I had a literal pinch of bread, then I ordered the grilled salmon with baked potato and broccoli. I had her bring out a box with the meal and immediately wrapped up most of it. I had "just enough". I'm still finding when that last bite it, you know. I also think its funny that everyone kept saying, are you SURE you don't want something to drink? I finally got a tea and took a few sips (timing it so I would not be eating 15min. before) so it worked out perfectly then I took the tea to go. Have you had a fill yet? I'm kink of looking forward to the 9th of Feb. I've done really well, but looking forward to no hunger between meals. Keep up the fabulous new you! Mags

    Meal Planning, Recipes & Schedules?

These are recipes that were in my SSM Weightloss Institute Center of Excellence Bariatric Surgery Binder. (Spelling it all out so they don't say I'm infringing on any copyrights if they own it ) If you click on the picture, then click again, it will make it larger for viewing. Haven't tried any yet, but I plan on having my hubby (he's the cook!) make a few of them for me soon!
