Did you have a lot of periods of shortness of breath? It's hard to breath a lot more these days. I'm 6days post op. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you.

@vmarlau I was cleared for surgery found out on Friday. I actually ended up changing my dates due to making sure I have someone home with my kids since I will be out of state so I have my EGD to check for hernia on 11/1 and surgery is scheduled for 11/5. Hernia or not I'm still having the surgery so either way it go I will be having the surgery on 11/5.

Yes they wil. The entire surgery is $9900 and they will finance at $235 per month for 5 years if you are not approved by Care Credit. Luckily I did have a hernia so my portion of the band is $5500. I'll pay $266.42 per month for 2 years. Worth every dime. My surgeon is Dr. Reilly through True Results Houston.
    Good luck, DON'T GIVE UP!!

Quinoa is actually really tasty, I prepare it in a rice cooker with chicken stock, onions, garlic and butter. Yum even my 12 year likes it!

Special K is a slider food. Are you eating solid Proteins? There are some basic band rules .if you are not following them now maybe try:
    Band rules:
1.no more than 1 cup of food
    2. Protein FIRST then veggie then carb if there is room.
    3.no drinking with meals.
    4. Small bites chew chew chew
    5. 30 min or less to eat.what ever is left after 30 min.stays on the plate
I was banded april 6th. I've lost 59 lbs since starting the preop diet march 23rd.
    Good luck to you !

Great list and Protein is UBER important. Get those Protein Shakes in for Breakfast and lunch and a well balanced meal at dinnertime. Exercise is very important, the weight is not coming off without effort. Good luck on your band and here's to a speedy recovery. I'm 13 days post-op and I feel I'm just about back to normal!

Thank you so much for this, Rebecca. I'm about 4 1/2 months out and haven't lost, or gained really, in 6+ weeks. It's been so frustrating and discouraging. I've tried everything I can think of with no avail, so I'm meeting with my surgeon today for another fill and get his advice. I'm down 52 lbs overall but after steadily losing for the first 3 months, I am so discouraged over the past 1 1/2 months!

Im very excited and pleased with my progress.
im down 40 since my banding (4/26) and 53 total since March 1.
I just had my 3rd fill on 9/24 and i think it may be the one to get me into the green zone.
from mid july til just pass mid august i was at a stand still on the scale and was very discouraged and was ready to give up and even tell doc to take the band out....what was i thinking?
I am so gald that i didnt..i just tweeked my workouts a bit, watched my carbs closer than i was and the weight started coming off again, ive had a loss every week since 8/24.
So for those of you who may be 2 or 3 months post-op (or at any stage of post op for that matter) and find your self at a stand still, dont get discouraged..just look at what you have been doing, and make eeven a small change for the better and it will work!
Coming here to LBT for encouragement and support and many tips...was the best thing i could have done and has been a large part of why ive done what i have done so far.

One of my main reasons for me getting this done is stop all the assumptions! Why do people think because you are heavy that you're eating 2 and 3 plates of food at a time! Pisses me off, my daughter is heavy and I'm heavy and I had a waitress at Cracker Barrel ask if we wanted diet Maple Syrup, saying "no offense". I refuse to let my child be subjected to the crap the world doles out to overweight people. I'm bound and determined to address both of our weight issues. I know some people are just plain ignorant but it still gets to me.

Hi. My name is Jen and I have been looking at getting lap band for well over 5 years. I was even a few months away from getting it once but backed out. I felt like I should be able to do this on my own. Well here I am 5 years later and though I have lost 55 pounds I am not where I want to be. I want to be able to go on rides at Universal and not be embarrassed that the bar will not fit. This is my first step. I go in on Weds to talk to my surgeon and can't wait to get started on my new journey.

my bmi was just into the 60's
i think anyone who wants to lose weight with the band must realize
the band is only a 3inch plastic band that goes around your stomach and
will help you feel fuller with smaller amounts (its up to the person to change what and how much they eat) sure there are banders who drink/eat slider foods high
in calories and fat and then wonder why they are not losing weight? same with
eating processed/high salt foods and again are shocked the scale is not moving

its def a you either want to lose weight or you dont
eating more calories than you burn off (whether you are emotional, a grazer, a snacker or a midnight raider) is the same.

It's hard to keep up a sustained weight loss effort for a long time. A good first step would to be schedule appointments with your surgeon and dietitian, get a band refresher course and pep talk, and maybe get a fill (depending on your current restriction).

Just let it motivate you to do more. Ignore her, I didn't share my surgery with anyone in my family. I got my soon to be ex-husband to accompany me on surgery day because no one in the family talks to him so they wouldn't find out. My mother is EXTREMELY jealous of anything good that happens to me. She didn't raise me my grandparents did (Thank God!) No matter my hardships, I press on and it makes some people stupid. Keep up the good work and don't look back!!

Thanks Kristinsmommy! She has always been that way with the fat comments. The difference now since surgery is that I don't turn to comfort foods to console me when I get my feelings hurt. I just take a walk.

My surgery was August 13th. I have gone from a size 14 to a 10 since then. And have lost 22 lbs. yesterday I had on my jeans for the first time since surgery. They are baggy in the butt and I needed a belt to wear them. I made the comment that I would soon need to get rid of them. My mother turns to me and asks what size are they. When I tell her a size 10, she says that's bullshit because your ass is bigger than mine. My dear sweet husband and grown daughter both spoke up to tell me how good I look and what an amazing job I have done so far. Why can't she just say the same instead of always making fat comments??

Found out today Dr Reily will be my doctor as well. Cindy is my Patient Advocate and I had my blood work, EKG, and the test well I had to blow through the tube. I think it was to check my lungs. They all have to be cleared but the young lady who did my two test said they look really good. I've never had health issues so I'm sure I will be cleared by next week. My EGD is scheduled for Oct 25 and surgery will be on the 29th as long as my test n blood clear next week.
How long was the EGD test?

I'm glad you posted this, I can gain weight by eating badly for two days, but I have to workout at least 5-6 times per week for at least an hour AND keep the calories down to lose. Knowing what you need to do to succeed and what the enemy is rocks! I know carbs are absolute no no's for me so when I fall off the wagon I'm not dismayed when the weight starts to creep back. I have to get back ON the wagon, take out my sword and keep fighting the dragon. I'll have him beat yet! His days are so numbered!

It's been since June. Part of it was scheduling conflicts, but also I was hesitant to go, since the NP was not wanting to give me fills, even when I told her I had no restriction, and I felt like well why did I even get the band?
A little bit of background. I was banded 12/30/11, and lost 15lbs almost right away. Then slowly lost another 5-7, and I say this because my weight bounces back and forth between these two numbers. The last time I lost was pretty much March, and I've been stuck since then. Tried stepping up my workouts, and following my eating more closely (including fresh veggies, upping my Water intake, and journaling my foods). Still no success. Went in to see NP in June, she lectured me that since I wasn't losing, I needed to try cutting out my frozen dinners, because it most likely the carbs and sodium doing me in. She also said I would not be getting any fills until I could drop some more weight. Now granted, I should have looked at that as a challenge, but I didn't. So that was my fault.
Fast forward to today. Made the appointment with the doc, and told him I feel like I'm fallen off the wagon, I have no motivation, and even when I bring the "A-game" and do what I'm supposed to, I don't lose. And don't lose with my F-game, either, lol. He reviewed my lab results, and said he is concerned, because it appears my metabolic system is not where is should be. He said I am pre-diabetic, and with my triglycerides being elevated, he is thinking I need to see an endocrinologist.
Now, this may seem a little strange, but hearing him tell me "look, every day is going to be a battle for you. You can gain the weight back so fast, but it's going to take you a while to get this weight off. It can be done, you just have to know what your challenges are and not let yourself get discouraged. Which I know is not going to be easy all the time," actually lifted my spirits. I think now that I know what my opponent is, I can pick a better battle strategy.
Has anyone else had endo-related issues? And if so, how or what did you find helped you to be more successful?
