JMarshall got a reaction from Minabelle in Can I eat watermelon?
I am almost 5 years out and I still can't eat a lot of watermelon at 1 time. I have been eating watermelon(juice and slices) since my second month. I am down over 270 pounds as of last week. Yes it can be a slider food but that does not take away it's benefits. I gravitated towards eating cold watermelon because it didn't hurt my stomach early on and hydrated me. Lots of foods are sliders but that does not mean that they are all bad. Just as we cannot blame the fork for being overweight we can't blame watermelon for weight gain. Moderation is key with everything we eat. We can't eliminate everything that has carbs or sugar , but we can be mindful of how much we take in. Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App

I'm in Cincinnati. I had my sleeve 5 years ago and I am down about 290 pounds overall with my highest weight being 540 pounds. If I had any advice to give it would be to focus primarily on liquids after surgery. After surgery I had to be readmitted to the hospital due to severe dehydration and borderline kidney failure. I was in the hospital for about 4 days getting a Fluid drip and had to work on getting more Water down before I was released .

You're in a pack of emotion bottlers here. Turning to food for company and solace. It's great for us and our future relationships that we recognize that.

I am 1 week post surgery. The restrictiveness I have now for eating has been a Godsend. Why? Because it is a constant physical reminder that I don't want to be this way anymore. As I work through my emotional eating problems I have this little tummy helping me to cope with the physical manifestation of my unhappiness.

I have heard that the first few weeks are tough. They are. It is tough to break up with your best friend. I'm totally over him now and ready to move forward into healthier and happier times in my life.

So excited for this to begin for you.

I would say that you would have to be crazy not to be scared. Having surgery is scary. I remember when I was being wheeled into the operating room I was talking to a group of doctors and they asked me if I was scared. I told them that I was but that I didn't have the choice of me not having the surgery. They questioned me saying "you always have a choice". I replied, if I don't have this surgery I will be dead before I turn 30, so to me it's not a choice it's an inevitably. Either I have the surgery and live or don't have it and die. At my highest weight I was 540 pounds, I now weigh 250. This surgery saved my life and it was the best decision of my life. Be strong and remember that you are choosing to have a better life. Good luck.

I am 5'10 and I started at 540 pounds in October of 2015.
    I had surgery 5/29/16 at 480 pounds.
    Today 1/29/17 I weigh 324 pounds!
This surgery saved my life! Before I had surgery I had to be on oxygen because I was so overweight it was pushing against my lungs.
Even with all the complications I had after surgery I would do this again in a heartbeat!

I started my journey 5 years ago at 540 pounds. I am 6 foot 2. I am down to 260 pounds which means I lost 280 pounds overall. I no longer suffer from pain in my knees and back, no more blood pressure medication, not borderline diabetic any longer, and sleep apnea is gone. Best decision of my life.

Although I am doing this for myself and I started this all alone. By alone I mean I chose to be alone at the hospital. I chose to be alone post surgery. A handful of people were aware of my intentions to have surgery. But I chose to go through all my consultations, appointments and surgery alone. Even chose not accept rides to and from hospital with anyone.
I don't feel alone anymore. I have a wonderful boyfriend who supports my health and fitness goals and encourages me with his positive vibes. He himself has been Mr. Fitness all his life. It's good to have someone who supports you without judgement. I am grateful our paths crossed and he has become an integral part of my journey.

The simple answer is yes. It took some time but I did. I had to learn how to love myself before I could truly love another. I have found the woman of my life and we are now married. I've been with my wife almost 4 years ( I had surgery 5 years ago). The vsg surgery transformed me in multiple ways and when I look back the only regret I have is not doing it earlier. It's sad but a good amount of relationships don't make it through wls. I think the main reason is because they are built on insecurities and when those insecurities go away everything else crumbles. Do what is best for your mental and physical health. Be strong.
