The issues come back. You must be prepared for that. Like I posted earlier, you WILL still have a smaller stomach, so that's a help, but empty carbs and sugar slide down with no problem and weight gain is EASY if you're eating the wrong foods.

Hey all- Dooter here. I haven't been on here in a while, but this thought has been plaguing me, and I need to get it out. -Let me preface this discussion by saying I am GLAD I had the sleeve surgery, and I would not change it for the world. I had NO complications and I lost 102 pounds in eight months, and for that I am grateful. I needed to do that quickly for my own sanity and health. HOWEVER- that said-
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT think for one teeny tiny minute that having surgery and dumping a bunch of weight is going to fix your head and the behavior that got you here. Not gonna happen. During the "honeymoon" period where you can sneeze off five pounds at a time and you're never hungry after your teaspoon of food, you can't imagine EVER returning to old feelings and desires. I am here to tell you that it sneaks back in a little at a time. A taste here, a taste there... "oh look. I've gained a pound. well, that was salty food, I'll just drink more Water tomorrow." HORSE HOCKEY!!!! That's where it starts. Your old head trips creep in. Hiding food. Eating junk now, figuring you'll just shape up "next week" or "tomorrow." Tomorrow never happens and you've gained 30 pounds back. Yes. With your itty bitty stomach, you have gained 30 pounds back. It can happen. Or worse, you gain it all back. That can happen too.
The reason I am writing this and being to harsh about it is that you are a person who is considering, or who has gone through a MAJOR life changing surgery. SO CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!! Be vigilant. come out of that honeymoon with your armor on! You WILL stop losing at one point and your body will begin to fight you as mine has. The diet my surgeon gave me no longer works at this point in the game, as my metabolism is stuck in cold molasses and it has taken a personal trainer/dietitian to get it moving again, and it is majorly hard work and painful and distasteful at times, but I have another 100 lbs to lose AFTER the 30 lb regain is gone.
Have somebody close to you hold you accountable for exercising and eating right. Splatter it all over Facebook if you have to (I did) so you'll have MANY people holding you accountable! Do what you have to do to reach your goal. Don't settle for less and don't eat crap. And don't think that surgery is the final solution. It's a tool that will get you halfway there. The rest is up to YOU and no one else. Thank you. That is all.

There's noooooo way you'd have choked those puppies down anyway! Halfway through the first McDouble, you'd be wondering what in tarnation made you think you could do it! That's the good thing about the sleeve. It keeps you in check pretty well. The biggest binge we could pull off would last about 5 minutes.
    (have you been sleeved yet?)

Haven't been faced with this yet, but I think I'd find a Teryaki chicken bowl, and start at the top with the chicken and work my way to the veggies, and I'd be full before I ever reached the rice. Or just order it without the rice. Ya. That sounds good.

I've been wondering about the process of healing along the staple line of the sleeve. I know on my surgeons website, there is a description of the stapling and then sewing up the outer edge of the staple line. Does the stomach itself actually start to grow together, sealing things up, or is the leak factor entirely dependent upon the staples and sewing?

Interesting. everyone really does go into this with different expectations. I always encourage pre oppers to do as much research as possible. For some reason I went into this expecting complications and problems afterwards and all sorts of horrors, because I knew I could always be one of the small percentage with problems. I didn't care. I hated being fat SOOOO much that I just would have rather dealt with problems than stay that way. I hated food, I hated me. I hated the way my life was going. I didn't care if I ever ate again. I took the plunge and to my relief, I have no problems whatsoever and the weight is melting away. THAT is how I can be so happy. I expECTED trouble and didn't get it. I'm not saying you went into this blind or anything, but everyone needs to do this with the knowledge that there very well could be trouble.
I really hope the bad stuff ends for you very soon. If time doesn't fix it, I pray the doc will!!

Hey there! My name is Danielle- I am 42. I'm a Christian, a wife and a mother. That's the order of devotion in my life: God, husband, children. I love them all! I've been with my husband since 1995, and we got married in 1999. I am still madly in love with him like a school girl and it gets worse every day! My children are 3 boys ages 11, 9 and 9. I've been homeschooling them since 2008.
I feel like their childhood is flying by and I'm spending it on the sidelines watching the fun. I wave goodbye as they go off on a hike with their dad, because I don't want to DIE out in the desert under the strain of this weight! (desert SW here)
Before I had children, I was very involved in ballooning. I had to quit that, because it involved getting up in the pre-dawn hours and once you have babies...you need SLEEP!!!
Now I'm an avid quilter. I know, I know....old lady hobby. I can't help it though, I'm strung out on the quilting. I looooove all the pretty fabrics and how I can chop them all up and sew 'em back together and make a beautiful blanket for someone! I'll be doing a lot of that to pass the time during pre op liquids.
Hmmm....what else.... Oh...I also worked for Albertsons from 1989 to 2000. But that's pretty boring. That's all I can think of for now...

I expected all the worst, and got all the best! The first 24 hrs. after surgery was rough because I was STRICT NPO, not even a single ice chip! That made me gag a few times. After that it was all uphill. They want us to sip an oz. of Fluid every 15 minutes after that first 24 hrs. Well, in a couple of days I was doing FOUR oz. every 15 minutes, and my pain was well managed by the meds prescribed. (I had a pretty good sized hernia repaired, so that caused some discomfort.) My healing progressed in a textbook fashion and I've not had a single complication (Thank you GOD!!) And I can eat any and all foods without problem or pain, and I've not thrown up once since surgery, and I've never "slimed." This could not have gone any better. I'm just amazed every day. I've lost almost 85 lbs. since February. I've got absolutely nothing to complain about.
One thing I've noticed around here- aside from the "NSVs" we never really report when we "feel good." It doesn't seem that interesting or require a response. Most people post when there is trouble, or can wear a smaller size pants. We just don't think to say, "hey, by the way, I had a really non-complicated surgery." And maybe we should, just so all you noobs can see that it's not just doom and gloom in your future. I think there are a great number of us who had a terrific experience. Hopefully you'll hear from more....

Redhead, If we still had perfect bodies, I'd be worried. However, we are in bondage to sin and decay. We are all dying and our bodies are failing. God has given us the tools, and the doctors to combat this in whatever way we can. We can do this to the glory of God. We don't have to worry about messing up what God created. Adam and Eve did that for us. I'm glad you've come to peace with this. It's a good thing.
