You should start one! I'm Feb. 2012 also. Dr. Kim in Dallas.
  3. Great video! Thanks for sharing. It leads to other helpful videos too!
  4. Great thread Penpen, thank you! Thank you everyone else for your input. It IS comforting. My BMI is almost 55, so some of this info is a bit disconcerting, but does not kill my resolve to get this done. The things I deal with on a daily basis and could face in the future make it worth it. Any other input is welcome. -danielle
  5. Thank you. How long is leaking a risk? Just in the healing phase, however long that is?

    Support System After Vsg

With women, EVERYthing seems to have an effect on estrogen levels. Age, weight gain, weight loss, the earth revolving around the sun . So, I'm guessing surgery and weight loss you've experienced before and after and the gravity of the permanent change in your body and your life.......just....might make one emotional and any changes in estrogen are going to exacerbate this emotional reaction. (I could be wrong )Give yourself some time to adjust. If there are people you need or need attention from- tell them! I'm sure they will care enough to do that. Chin up dear. Praying for you. -Danielle
  7. We're going to Colleyville in the Dallas area. I'm going to Dr. Kim. I wanted the best and he seems to be right up there. We'll be there at least a week. Texas seems to have the best bariatric surgeons. Boy, I can't wait!
  8. I'm so ready for food to not be an "issue," and just be something that keeps my heart beating!

  10. Thanks Amanda! That is helpful. My mom will be with me, and hopefully my husband will make it for the day of the surgery. (I live in NM and we're join to TX for the surgery). I'm glad the stats are in my favor. Merry Christmas all!
  11. Eeeee, I'm scared now. :s  I go in February. Is this a typical recovery reaction, or IS there a "typical?" Anyone?? Anyone?? Sorry it's so hard J. I pray the healing speeds up for you.

    Fab 40's shout out

Hey all- I'm 42 and have 3 boys, 11, 9, and 9. Never recovered from the whole "pregnancy pounds" fiasco. Up in the three hundies and not liking life right now (in regards to looks and size). My surgery is scheduled for 2/13/12. I can't wait to get rid of this bag of wet laundry I'm carrying around front side. Please tell me that 42 is not too late for some of the skin to snap back. I've heard age is a factor. Once the decision was made, I immediately gained 10 pounds! What's that?!? LOL Anyway...I'd love to hear some good news about the skin deal.... Merry Christmas all! Jesus is the reason for the season.....and everything else!!

    My First Nsv!

Congrats Bonbon! Good feeling!! I just got my ring resized to bigger. I can't wait for the other direction. I also can't WAIT for my feet to shrink! They're too fat to have very many shoes. I'm the only woman I know with less shoes than her husband. Surgery on 2/13/12. Can't wait!
  15. Good to know!!! Being a 'chocoholic' I'm storing this information for later! (55 days, 19 hours and 34 minutes to go til surgery, but who's counting??)
  16. I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait!!!!!

  17. Ok- I'm about 65 days away from surgery- I just scheduled it yesterday, in fact. I'm beyond excited, but there are people in my life that I KNOW will not be. If I say anything now, they will spend 65 days trying to tell me how they can help me avoid this surgery. I'm 42. I weigh 340. I'm done. I'm doing this, because I know it will be the best thing for me and my family. If I tell them after the fact (when they start asking if I'm anorexic or terminally ill because I'm losing weight so fast..), they will be angry that I did not tell them beforehand. What did you do? How did the people around you react? (Keeping in mind, I know I'm doing this for ME not for them...) Were they ultimately happy for you?
  18. OMIGOSH, OMIGOSH OMIGOSH!!! PLEASE TELL ME THAT IT'S TRUE!! We belong to BCBS Illinois as well! (I live in NM, but my husband is employed out of Chicago). I called a month or so ago, and they said it was only covered with the hoop jumping. We are paying cash, but it would be awesome to have some of it covered!! Can you tell me any more?
  19. I had a very similar experience. My appointment is in February 2012. When I made the decision to do this, I of course discussed it with my husband, and it was my mother's offer that started it all, so she is supportive. I still felt like I needed to say it out loud to someone not so close to me to see if it sounded sane. One close friend, who has weight issues as well, I thought for sure would be an understanding ear. I mentioned it to her, and she sounded interested and supportive. Well, at Thanksgiving she asked if we could be workout buddies and see how much weight we could lose together in 3 months, because she'd do ANYthing she could to stop me from having this surgery. Talk about taking the wind out of my sails. It really really bothered me and still does. I told her that yes, working out will be very important especially after I have the surgery! I don't understand the attitude, but they don't understand the skin we're in, and the life that is ahead to be spent in that skin. We know who we are and what is best for US. So....I guess mum's the word until someone asks why we're melting! At least that's what I'm considering. Don't let the nay sayers get us down sister!
  20. Is it February yet?

  21. Well, that makes sense. I can see how they would certainly support that. I have NO co-morbidities, believe it or not, even at this weight. I don't know why I'm so worried about others' reactions. The mental/emotional aspect of this journey will be as important as the weight loss, I'm sure. Thanks for the input!
  22. Surgery upcoming on February 13, 2012. Now trying to figure out how this forum thing works....Tried to add a ticker. Did i get it?
