kespy74 got a reaction from Heccat2 in My secret reason!!
There are several reasons I want to get banded and lose weight. Mainly it's so I can feel better and not be in pain anymore. But I finally admitted to my husband a secret reason I want to lose weight. It's silly and I felt dumb telling him but he laughed and encouraged me. I love that man!!
My secret reason:
I want to be able to dress up as a solid gold dancer for Halloween next year!!
Anyone else want to share!?!

Sending Prayers to everyone that has upcoming surgeries and for quick recoveries. I am just starting the process and hope I will be able to have surgery sooner rather than later but I am scared but know it is something I have to do if I want to live.

kespy74 got a reaction from B is starting the journey in Glad to find this site. Newbie surgery in two weeks!
Good Luck on your journey B! I hope to have my surgery by the end of this year or beginning of next. There are so many things I am looking foreward to being able to do. I want to wear a cute bathing suit next summer for the first time since high school. I want to be able to go up the flight of stairs at work without getting winded. I want to dress like a solid gold dancer on halloween (silly I know), I want to actually enjoy to go clothes shopping. I want to run the Disney half marathon. And I want to feel better most of all.
Keep posting on your journey. I can't wait to Celebrate your victories!

Wonderfully Stated!!

How do you know you're ready? What a great question. And I think you'll likely get a lot of great answers.
From a purely objective viewpoint, it's similar to asking how do you "know" the surgery will succeed? Or how do you "know" there won't be serious complications? How do you "know" you won't fail? The answer is you don't. There are risks. There are no guarantees. No absolutes. No certainty. Can you "know" you're ready? Probably not.
But there is an old saying - "If you know something to be true, it's a fact. If you feel something to be true, it's faith." Like you, I did extensive pre-op research. I was meticulous about the sources I chose for the information I was looking for. The Institute of Medicine, Harvard Public Health, mayo Clinic, the World Health Organization, the food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, WebMD, countless major universities and hospitals across the country and around the world - the list goes on and on. By the time I made my decision, I was convinced (and still am) that RnY is the single most effective treatment known to medical science for the treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and more than 30 comorbidities associated with obesity. I had read all of the statistics. I was convinced that in spite of the very real risks, some very serious, that the odds of my having a successful outcome were overwhelmingly in my favor.
I felt that it was the right thing to do. And that was enough. Does that mean that I wasn't scared on the morning they wheeled me into the OR? Not hardly. Does that mean the thought of failing never crossed my mind? Not hardly. Can you ever really "know" that you're doing the right thing? I don't think so. But courage is not about never being afraid. Courage is not about certainty. Courage is about doing what you feel is right, in spite of your fears and your doubts.
This last Sunday was the second anniversary of my surgery. Now, I know I was ready. Now, I know it was the right decision for me. Now, I have a new life that at one point not so long ago I "knew" I would never have.
I "feel" that you're gonna love the new you!!

kespy74 got a reaction from elizabet33 in I feel bad keeping my surgery private
I haven't told many people and it's not that I am keeping it secret, I just don't feel it's anyones business. I believe its on a need to know basis. I will tell my boss once I get my surgury date but other folks probably not. If someone asks, I will be honest and tell them. Just because I tell some one, it is not an invitation to give me their opinion. If I want it, I will ask for it. I've been very forutnate with the few that I have told. They all have been supportive and caring.

kespy74 got a reaction from dee257 in My Heart is Broken
Dear Band Family,
My sweet dog Taco passed away this past Friday and I am having a hard time dealing with it. She wasn't just a dog to me, she was my four legged baby and I miss her terribly.
My heart hurts so much. She was 5 years, 9 months, and 11 days old. All I do is cry, and I am so depressed. Ice cream has been my best friend. I think I'm hoping it will numb me inside. I just feel at a loss.
Thank you for letting me get this out.
This is her.

kespy74 got a reaction from Landav5 in Hello from Peachtree City, GA
Hello all I just went to the seminar yesterday with my hubby, and beforehand was convinced I wanted the Lapband, but now I am leaning more toward the bypass. I have Tricare Prime and will be calling my PCP tomorrow to make an appointment so I can get the referral for the bypass. I am hoping it will go smoothly and I can get surgery by the end of the year or beginning of the new year. Looking forward to making new friends and get all the information possible about the bypass.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my sweet girl on the 13th and it was unbearable. She was only 5 years old and was the love of my life. She had a surgery that her little body just wasn't able to handle and she was in a lot of pain and I had to let her go. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I miss her everyday. I had a dream and my sweet girl came to me and told me to get a new furbaby to help me heal. I recently got a new furbaby and my heart is healing.
