    Hair loss

I had six months of crazy shedding and I have thin hair, and not much of it to begin with. I now have a cute pixie haircut that I receive lots of compliments on. It's also growing back again and thickening up. Late summer/early fall (I was a early January surgery) was the worst. It looked better and better the shorter I cut it until finally the re-growth isn't much shorter than the hair that didn't fall out! My surgeon was pretty adamant in his literature that there's no way to prevent this if you are personally prone to it. He told us not to waste our money on fancy supplements or shampoos. I tried some nioxin- didn't do anything but the scalp sunscreen was great. I tried some supplements and didn't see any difference after keeping up with them for almost 3 months. Just my experience. It was kind-of tough while it was at it's worst, but looking back not such a big deal and I should have gone for the full pixie earlier.

    question to females!

I've always been pretty regular but I hit the six month post-op mark and started getting them every 26 days... once in the last 8 months it went 28 days but this every 26 days is a huge bummer! I think it's my age - I'm in my early 40s and I think my body is doing its best to go for one more kid... There are crazy hormonal fluctuations going on when we loose a large amount of weight quickly and that's bound to impact the regularity of some peoples' cycles. As long as you aren't pregnant, it's probably ok. Check in with your OBGYN if you're worried about it.

We have InShape in Central Ca too. I'll have to check out what they're teaching in my little Podunk town!

    Got the norovirus 2 weeks post-op :(

I'm so sorry... I've had this and it's horrible! I was down from a Friday afternoon until Sunday night and I had a 9month old infant I was breast feeding. That was NO FUN! I hope you get past it quickly! I'm thinking about you!

    Daily caloric intake

I use myfitnesspal and it has my daily goal at 1350 calories. I'm 14 months out from surgery. I'd still like to loose a little more but it won't kill me if I don't make it down to 155. I have decaf coffee with half and half (I could cut some serious fat calories if I'd switch to skim milk but this is my main vice...) when I get up. Work days I have a protein shake with 1.25-1.5 scoops of the cytosport chocolate protein powder and water. Weekend days I might have a scrambled egg with cheese or yogurt. If I'm hungry by mid-morning (I usually am) I have 2-3 pieces of cheese or a yogurt. Lunch varies, depending on what I snacked on, if anything I'll have a yogurt, some fruit or sometimes cheese and crackers or left-over steak. Dinner is usually some kind of ,eat protein, depending on what my son eats - often ground chicken or steak and a few bites of whatever veggie & fruit I'm giving him. My current favorite snack is Boom Chicka Pop sea salt popcorn, but I also like multigrain cheerios (dry) or these crackers called Raincoast Crunch or something like that. I use lots of dairy protein... but my cholesterol is always fine so I just go with it!

    Hula Cardio Class

Where are you taking that!? Sounds like fun and a killer workout.
  7. Week 7, day 1: DONE! Run 25 minutes- I even pushed it to 26.5 minutes because I run slow and didn't get to 2.5 miles while running. This was a treadmill night and treadmill is much easier on my body so I can run longer. Just let me say, it feels AMAZING! If anyone told me two months ago that I could run for two miles, I'd have asked them what kind of crazy stuff were they smoking! If I can do this, anyone can! This is such a fantastic, supportive thread! Thanks everyone! Happy running!

    Hungry

My surgery was on a Monday morning and by Friday afternoon I was starting to feel some hunger. Saturday, I went out to my mom's and was drinking strained progresso soups all day. I was very ready for week two choices!
  9. I'm looking at mapmyrun for distance/ route mapping. Has anyone used it or have something they really like (in an app)? I don't want to buy a fancy watch or monitoring system, just something for my phone. Thanks All!
  10. My 22 minute run on Saturday kicked my booty! I was just exhausted yesterday and took a day off other than a little gardening! I'm just going to do some squats and inclined walking on the treadmill tonight because from here on out my c25k routines are almost all running! :/ yikes!

    Mapmyrun or similar app?

I'm a little past the middle of c25k myself. I've just ventured outside (off the treadmill) and am looking for something that will help me track my distance when running outside. I found an online site that I was able to map out the distance I ran last Saturday (just over 2 miles if it's accurate). I'm also a myfitnesspal user and want to stick with that program because I'm used to it. Thanks all for the recommendations!

    1st follow up

That's great! Keep up the good work!
  13. W6D3 done! I can't believe I ran for 22 minutes, ok I jogged... Ok, it was more like a brisk shuffle, but I DID IT! And Butterthrbean... I even did it OUTSIDE! No Doubt and Billy Squier really helped at the end. Happy Saturday folks!

    30 day squat challenge

I'm a wimp so I did 25 last night and go for an increase of ten per day on days I don't jog. I even took a picture of my flabby tush to see if it helps things look better! Yikes!
  15. Swamp People! I can watch shows if I'm walking on the treadmill, but haven't tried it running. My TV is off at an angle and I don't think watching & running would work for me (I'd look like one of the folks in the video posted recently!). However, I do read while I run on the treadmill... nothing like a little brain candy to pass the time! I do run at a small incline (1%) and it's pretty flat where I am so there is no "weather" to factor in! Butterthebean - now you're making me feel guilty... guess I'll have to drag my fanny outside again... soon!

    30 day squat challenge

I'm doing c25k and will do the last day of week 6 tomorrow. It's a 9 week program. Ideally, I'll be up to 5k in three weeks, but I think that might be ambitious... I'm supposed to run for 22 minutes with no walking breaks tomorrow.
  17. So today will be a "run 22 minutes" day... I might push it off to tomorrow when my mom has my son. I think I might stick to the treadmill this time to see the difference. Last Saturday was a "run 20 minutes" day and I tried running outside for the first time. I'd like to know if I'd do any better on the treadmill for the extended time or if running that long is just hard either way!

    30 day squat challenge

I've just started a running program... I wonder if I could alternate squats and run days?
  19. Well, this is your place to whine! We've all been there, or I have at least! The stalls are crazy frustrating but it gives you an opportunity to change things up and see if something else works for you. I food log using myfitnesspal and am regularly horrified about the percentage of my caloric intake that comes from fat. Almost all the fat comes from the half and half I put in my coffee and from cheese. I even got some of the lower fat mini baby bells to try and curb the fat intake some because I'm NOT giving up cream in my coffee! So, feel free to whine! I'll listen and chime in too!
  20. I got stuck at 10-11 months out, but it was my fault because I stopped exercising and logging my food. I'm back on myfitnesspal and started a jogging training program and the lbs are slowly starting to come off again.
  21. After the six month mark, I'd loose 2-5 lbs per month and I'd loose almost all of it just after I'd get my period. Then I hit a huge stall from early December (11 months out) until mid-February. The scale didn't budge until I started a jogging program about a month ago. I've dropped about 4lbs since then and I'd really like to drop some more! I'd like to get down to at least 160 and maybe even 155. For me, if I stall, I need to change things up. I'll probably try to introduce some weight training this summer if I get a handle on the running and feel a little more confident about it.
  22. That made me think of the Johnny Knoxville show from MTV! My treadmill is in a corner too though and I'd never really thought about it. I did W6D2 tonight. Run 10, walk 3, run 10. I made it. The next day is run 22 minutes and I'm not looking forward to that one bit!
  23. W6D1 done! I wonder why the program starts to mix it up in week 5? W5d3 was jog for 20 minutes and tonight it's back to R5/W3/R8/W3/R5. I do much better with the short breaks. I couldn't run for 20 and it was my first time running outside too. Looking forward to W6D2!

    Walking

I've never counted steps! I walk on the treadmill for 30-40 minutes a pop and three days per week have been following a running program. I try to burn at least 250 and ideally at least 300 calories (according to my treadmill) when I walk. I'm sure that's off/generous but I figure it's consistent so I use the numbers in myfitnesspal.

    Overwhelmed....

I think anything we do is better than nothing! If you're going from a sedentary lifestyle, anything is more than you were doing, right? I'm not an exercise lover either, so I totally get it. I do love dance classes though and miss the access I had to them in LA when I was living there. I've really only done treadmill walking since my surgery and just in the last month I started running some. If someone told me, even two months ago that I'd be running, I'd have flat out laughed my fanny off at them - no joke! I started a training program app and am pretty hooked on it. I've been more consistent with food-logging and exercise since I had my surgery. I'm seeing results and had been stalled for a while so I'll keep at it. Ease into things and don't expect to turn into a gym rat over night - if you ever turn into a gym rat! My Dr. tells me to just turn on music and dance around the house. I think the thing is to just move some, the rest will work itself out.
