KristeyK got a reaction from Billie Jo Brown Alexander in INSURANCE! if u dont mind responding
Your individual insurance policy, no matter which company you have, is what determines whether or not they cover the surgery. For instance, I have a friend who also has United Health Care, but her company didn't have the bariatric rider in their policy, so it's not covered for her.
I have United Health Care for Railroad employees and just got word today that I was approved! (Not just ANY approval, but a band to sleeve revision, which is NOT common for carriers to cover.) For any WLS, they require a BMI of 35 and co-morbidities, or a BMI of 40+.

Here's my take on thongs...you can have 1" of material crawl up your rear or 5"...take your pick! lol. I used to wear them ALL the time before I gained all this fart noodling weight, and I can't wait to start wearing them again! They won't take too long to get used to at all.

If only it WAS as simple as get off your rear and do it. If it was, we'd all have a BMI of 23-25 and perfectly happy with ourselves.
Sure, there are risks with surgery. However, if you're in the Dallas or Houston area, you take a HELL of a much bigger risk getting into that car and driving on the freeways everyday. You can research and find EVERY horror story about any kind of surgery out there, but the beauty of lap. surgery is that as far as surgical procedures are concerned, it's fairly safe.
The BIGGEST risk we will all face is actually anesthesia, and if you're like EVERY OTHER college football player I know- you've had knee and/or ankle surgery and already know whether or not you have adverse reactions to it. Your #2 risk is wound infection...that's easy. Be bossy and make anyone who comes near your incisions was her/his hands before they touch it. Also make sure he/she is wearing gloves. Your #3 risk would be a leak, but those are not very common at all. Just make sure you listen to your nurse when she gives you the rundown of what to look for when she gives you your discharge orders. (For instance, if you develop a fever of 101 or higher that doesn't resolve with Tylenol or Ibuprofen within a couple hours...GET TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!) The other thing that can be a risk factor sounds silly, but it happens a LOT...don't try to get up the first couple times without help. You may think you feel fine, but if you get up too fast, it can cause dizziness, which could cause you to fall and hurt yourself. (And really, who wants a sore abdomen AND a broken hand/stitches in your head/broken ankle/whatever else you could injure by falling.)
There are other risk factors involved, but those are the ones that top the list of what we'd watch for in the hospital. Also, don't try to be a hero and suffer through your pain. If the meds aren't working for you- TELL YOUR NURSE! She'll call your Dr and get you something that'll work better for you. We don't want to see people in pain, it'll prolong your healing.
I hope this helps you out at least a little. Gotta take care of my fellow Texans!!!!

KristeyK reacted to sasicas in I've lost how many inches?!
Good grief, I finally got around to taking my measurements which I have not done since 1 month post op. Now here I am at 4 months post op and down 63 3/4 inches. So as I was showing my husband the numbers it dawns on me that I have lost my height. Oh. My. Goodness. And I am not even to goal. Part of me is seriously embarrassed that I could lose my height in inches off my body but the other part of me says BOOYAH!
And this last week I went to my grandparents wedding and fit a size 12 dress and a medium shrug. I cannot even tell you the last time I fit in either one of those sizes.
So many NSVs now which I do believe I love more than watching the scale move. So many people in the past weeks that I have not seen since before surgery and well their reactions were kind of cool yet embarrassing at the same time. One lady even went up to my husband and told him how good I looked lol.
Now it's time to bust my butt and lose those last 22 lbs, I won a free outdoor photo shoot for the family and I desperately want to be at goal and feeling comfortable in my own skin before the shoot

Call your bariatric surgeon. It makes no sense to me either. Your triglycerides would not put you in advanced danger under anesthesia and the modified diet after surgery should help lower your triglycerides. You also should still be able to take meds for this after surgery. Is your PCP less than supportive for bariatric surgery?
I would want to know what your bariatric surgeon has to say about this. Technically you should not need your PCP's permission to have this surgery.

KristeyK reacted to AutumnLily in Can you help me make sense of my Pre-Op Diet??
Sorry I got lost with the you can have as many Protein drinks a day and then it stating that you can only have a maximum of 40 - 50 carbs with the Protein drinks. Then saying NO solid food allowed yet you can have protein bars and if you must chicken, steak, hard boiled egg... Plus there is no calorie limitations but how would you be able to have increased calories if you are not eating solids? When I was on my liquid diet post op I was trying to find ways to increase my calories to 500.
My pre op diet was lean Proteins min 60 gms and reduced carb to 40 gms for one week. Avoid sugar and increase Water to min 64 oz. I had no problem following mine. I think you might want to get some clarification from your doctor on the diet.

    Glad you're ok now.
Real fruit juice is a very quick and suggested way to bring blood sugar back up. You can get 4oz juice boxes that dont have to be refrigerated and would be perfect to keep in the car, at the office and at home for such events.
Also, you may consider tweaking your diet as a pp suggested. You had 2 meals in a row of nothing but carbs. That will cause an insulin spike, and with noting else to counteract the spike, your blood sugar will drop....as well as be counter productive in your weight loss efforts.
Protein first. There are reasons the doctors push this. You just experienced one of them.
