  1. So it been some time since I posted. I was sleeved in 2012. I was blessed with being the 5% with complications such as GERD and now I have a hiatal hernia. I was told the a RNY is no only option. I desperately tried to find an alternate solution to no avail. I would like to know a few things. 1) for those who have fed bc/bs., how long did it take to get a revision to RYN approval. 2) have you had any complications since the revision. 3) any regrets? I just idea of losing the with you have gained because of all the crackers they manage the GERD is appealing but I am scared out of my mind. A little depressed. Feeling like a failure.

    Sudden onset of heartburn at 15 months?

    Yes it is very common. I had the same thing and had to go on the strongest PPI and it still has not helped. So my bariatric recommended a surgery called stretta. They go in through the month and sort of shrink wrap the part that connects your esophagus and stomach. My insurance is covering it. Thank God because my meds I am on are really expensive $350 after insurance and the discount plan offered by the manufacturer for a 90 day supply. And it still doesn't work. Plus, I don't like the idea of being on a med that makes your bones brittle. I am hoping this is work.

    Overeating when dining out

    I have a hard time with this too. I always say no bread but then my husband says "what about he kids". Then i start mindlessly start picking at the bread. Before I know it I have 2 pieces and my meal hasn't even come to the table yet. We stopped going out as often.
  4. Or if you eat too much too fast. I used to get the slims but not anymore. I am 3 years out and as far as calories go you will not be at 800-1000 for the rest of your life. Your sleeve relaxes after year 2 to 2 1/2 so then eating is easier almost normal. I wasn't prepared for the shaking feeling in my legs when I forgot to eat. That freaked me out the first time when I didn't know what was happening.

    Totally failed today :(

    I think the chocolate is ok. It melts in your mouth like a liquid. But the pizza this early is a little risky. If you want pizza, there are some good recipes for pizza Soup on line. Taste like the real thing. But I don't think u should think u failed or anything. Most people go through a morning period and have slip ups. As long as you correct yourself and remember why you did this in the first place. To be honest unless u are drink milkshakes everyday, you gonna lose lots weight no matter what you do. This period of time is so that you adjust to a new lifestyle. You will have pizza again. Just without the crust.

    How to tell your 4 yr old?

    My kids were 6 and 8. I just told them that I was going to get a skinny shot from the doctor and that I would need to say for a few day but when I get back I would need them to be good and help daddy. My 6 year old was very sensitive to things so even though my 8 yo understood more we had to keep it simple for the 6 yo. They knew about my heart issues so when they asked why I was doing it we told them it that the healthier I am the less stress my heart would be under. When my youngest was 8 we explain the the both of them the truth. They were total cool with it.

    Day 1116 (3years, 2 weeks, 6 days

    So it's been awhile since I have been on this website. I probably shouldn't have stopped blogging my progress. I have gained some weight back. About 15 lbs. not too happy about that. I started this summer. A pound here a pound there. Then October I started packing on the weight. 2.5 in October. 2.5 in November, 5 in December, 2.5 in January, and 2.5 in February. I recognized that the weight was coming on but I kept telling myself that it would come off fast just like before. Well that's not the case. I have been struggling. And I am very frustrated, very disappointed, and a little scared. I lost my confidence for sure. BUT, I made a promise to myself that I was gonna get this turned around and lose the 15 I gained. One of my issues is not doing any exercise. That can be attributed to my change in work schedule. I have been temporarily assigned to a location 2 hours way so every day is a 13 hour day for me, 2 hour drive, 9 hours working, and 2 hours drive home. There is light at the end of the tunnel. My project ends next week. And I am happy to report that I started working out again 2 days ago and I have an appointment with a pilatites instructor on Saturday. My second issue is my eating has been inconsistent with the doctors instructions. And it is so easy to get off track. I can eat more now. I have been eating things that are not on the approved list, like bread, rice, and pasta. I haven't been getting enough protein in if at all and I have been waiting too long to eat. Instead of eating three meals and two snacks I've been eating three meals no snacks high carbs high sugar just junk. I also have been eating out a lot. Which is not bad and of itself but the places I've been eating has been fast food and bad fast food like I've been going to Popeyes eating the biscuits and fried chicken, McDonald's small cheeseburger small fries and sweet tea, I've been eating portion sizes that are larger than the three-quarter cup 1 cup restriction. I've been spending longer time eating instead of restricting myself to the 30 minutes so I can eat more in one sitting. And lastly I've been eating when I'm not hungry just bored or for entertainment. I think mainly that's because I'm not drinking enough water so instead of really being hungry I'm really just dehydrated instead of drinking water first I reach for food. Finally, my husband was also had a surgery has not been the best at the diet either. He eats bags of chips, buy ice cream for the house, buys chocolate and candy for the house, and rather go out to eat. So I came up with an action plan to try to get myself back on track. Step one was to start exercising which I started this week and tomorrow I have an appointment with a Pilates instructor. Step two, I started tracking my food through my fitness pal again and I bought one of those step trackers. Step 3, blog blog blog. Anyway, I will let you all know how it is going.
  8. Your poop will not be the same after the surgery but it will be better. It is very normal for it to be loose in the begin months...annoying but normal.
  9. I been eating chicken since the solid stage, which was about 8 week after surgery. I eat all the time now...in the crock pot or roasted is the best but I can do grilled if not over cooked. Fish is easier but I can do steak if med or med-rare. I can't do pork and for the longest time I couldn't do tuna in a can but at 18 months suddenly I can. My nut said, if you can't do a certain food now don't worry, try again in 30 days. I still can't do grapes and I am 20 months out.

    When can you drink

    Never. I can't drink it and I was sleeved 18 months ago. Soda is not good for any WL patient. The carbonation can stretch your pouch. The gas in the drink comes out and expands your stomach like a balloon. Your new stomach pouch can be stretched out over time if you drink carbonated beverages after your surgery. What’s more, carbonated beverages – like soda pop, ginger ale, sparkling cider and even tonic water – increase hunger and contribute to weight regain.

    Exercise question for the VETS

    I hate exercise now a days. Funny thing I didn't used to. When I was in my 20s, I would going to the gym all the time. Post sleeve, I hardly worked out at all, for two reasons: (1) I have a heart condition so I am limited on what I can do anyway, (2) I felt lost in the gym...and still feel lost in the gym. But I still lost weight...I still made it to goal and then some. I just had to get really diligent about my sleeve diet.

    Telling family

    I told everyone at work and my dad, of course my husband, and my brother. I told my mom after I had a date because she can be a little critical and a worry wart. Husband spilled the beans to my in-laws, after I told him not too. His family is the gossipy type. My family is not. My reason for telling was I wanted people to say what they wanted to say when I was strong enough and confident enough to fight the criticism. I knew after the surgery I was going to feel ready bad because of the pain and I did want any outside options making me question my decision. Plus I didn't want to have to explain why I wasn't going out to lunch and the gurgles after I ate. For me, it was the best decision to tell early and to tell all. Most people were just curious. I only had one person criticize me but I am an out spoken person to begin with so I was able to handle her. It worked out for me because in the end I had lots of support at work and at home. People say what they say because most a genuinely worried for you other are just jealous or in the dark. For the first 6 months, I put up with some, "see I told you so's". But once I got to goal...starting looking hot...most were very impressed with my progress and a few were very jealous. After seeing my results 4 people from work have done some kind of WLS, 2 are looking into it, and 1 is weighting on approval. I think you would be surprise how many people have had WLS.
  13. The reason is caffeine. Researchers used to believe that caffeinated drinks had a diuretic effect. This means that you would urinate more after drinking them, which could increase your risk of becoming dehydrated. Recent research shows that this is not true and that caffeine has a diuretic effect only if you consume large amounts of it — more than 500 to 600 milligrams (the equivalent of 5 to 7 cups of coffee) a day. It is true for someone who has a normal stomach. Because your stomach is so small and your body has now changes how you process and absorb things, I was told to avoid it for the first 9-12 months. The worst thing you can do on with a sleeve is dehydrate. It can be very dangerous.
  14. I was told to wait 18 to 24 months before doing plastics. If you are not at goal, I would wait because you could have more loose skin after your MM. I am 17 months and I just had my upper arm lift and breast implant/lift two days ago. I am having a lower body lift on October and was told to take 6 weeks to recover.
  15. I went below my personal goal by 22lbs. I felt fine but everyone else thought I was too thin, sickly even. But at 108lbs for someone who is 4'11'' that's a normal BMI. So I have gained about 3-5 lbs. back and now in my head I am panicking a little 'cus now I have concerns about gaining too much back. Specially since I bought all new clothes for work and play that are now feeling a little tight...eeks! Some of my bad habits are coming back but this weekend I worked really hard to make better food choices. However, there was no movement on the scale unlike before. I would loss something but nothing this time....another eeks! It has really messed with my head a little.

    One Month, Two Days

    I am having my plastics in two stages. Next week i am having a short incision upper arm lift and implants/breast lift. In October I am having a lower body lift with but lift, lipo, and fat transfers. I had a questions on your pain. How bad was the pain for u?
  17. I have to agree with Amy...bars make me hungry. I am surprised that the hotel didn't give you a refrigerator. I travel a lot in the beginning. I got a doctor' note and spoke to managers of the hotels. I was always able to get a frig. or access to a frig because it was a medicate reason.

    Suprising offer by hubby.

    My husband and I did the surgery and I have to say, it is really awesome. I had surgery first and his was 6 months after mine....we are like a two person support group. It's really nice to have someone who really gets its and so cheap to eat out. We spill every meal and still can't finish it.

    am I being naive? ?

    I told everyone at work and my friends. I had some regrets from time to time because of some of the negative comments but now I can see it was the best thing for me, telling people. People at work know, so I don't have to explain why I am eating like a bird. My family, friends, and co-worker have all been very supportive (99% of them, the 1% can go to (fill in the blank)). After having my surgery, 6 people I know are going through or have gone through the surgery. You will always run into a small groups of people who will be totally against it but just remember, this isn't about them...this is about you and your health.

    Coffee?

    I only drink decaf coffee but my doctor said to avoid caffeinated drinks in the beginning because it dehydrates you and since you have to get 64 oz of water in a day it would not be worth it. Dehydration can be very dangerous and slows the healing and weight loss process. Caffeine also stimulates acid production that can cause acid reflux. I didn't have an caffeine (ice tea) for the first 6 months. Now I drink it all time.
