  1. Today was my second day back at work and I am exhausted. But I no longer need anything for pain. I've gotten in my most protein so far today, yay!

  2. I had my surgery just 3 days before you. I only drank 6 oz of Water that first 24 hours I was home. It was aweful. I had pain accross my upper back, and of course in my guts where all the staples and probes went in. I called the Dr. on the second day home and told him these things. He said they pumped me so full of fluids with the IV's that I should be fine with the hydration. Told me to concentrate on water, sipsipsipsip, because the Protein will come as the week pass. I couldn't even take in enough of a sip to swallow a pill! But everyday was a little better than the last. I went back to work on day 6 for a half day desk job. Today, I managed to stay all day. I'm not taking anything for pain now, and sipping water is easier. I think I'm in the exhaustion phase now. lol Hang in there, because it does get better. Oh, and here is something I experienced that I haven't read about....I WAS HUNGRY all the time for the first 5 days. Now, I am finding I don't feel one hunger pain, which is what I was waiting on...yah! Take care, Shirley

    surgery 08/15 and pain

My surgery was on 8/23 and the amount of pain for the first week was something I wasn't prepared for. I never heard from anyone with VSG before surgery, only RNY. They all said "it was nothing" "no pain", etc. I saw the Dr. yesterday for my post op, and he said VSG will not only have more pain than RNY, but also not be able to move to smooth foods, or pureed foods as fast as RNY. I love the way I'm feeling today, by the way. Also, I haven't even attempted any kind of real food. Just liquids, broth, water, protein shakes (I treat them like my meal and don't drink other liquids with those shakes, and not again for 30 minutes). As sort of a consolation, the doctor said that Lap Band feels the most actual pain after surgery because of the port they have implanted under the skin.

    My first Ucky Day!!!!

Smiley, I am on day 5 post op. I will be reading your blog to see what's coming up for me, LOL. Can you blog about whether you had hiatal hernia repair, also?
  5. I have questions about the meds I can take, like the PPI. I'm not taking anything right now (well except pain med, lortab). I guess I will get what I need tomorrow, but I am anxios to start the PPI because I have read that is so important to healing.
  6. I think I'm walking enough. I have taken my two dogs (Roxy & Beegee) around the block yesterday and today. Before that I would just pace the house.
  7. Thanks for all the feedback....since I started this board thing (haha) I feel lots better! Feel free to give me tips on communicating easier, also. So I have the settings correct?
  8. How do you get those ticker to show up?????? I like them and see them all over this website, so you would think it would be easy. I can't figure it out. Thanks so much.....

    Constipation

I had my surgery on 8/23/11 and I still haven't had a bowel movement. I KNOW I have struggled with constipation my whole life, so I'm not surprised that I haven't "gone". My first post op appt is tomorrow, so I am waiting to see what the Dr. says I can take for it. Colace was my choice before, but I am afraid to try and swallow the pills. I am so happy and relieved to have found this website.
  10. After being 265 pounds for 14 years, I finally lostg 100 pounds with Weight Watchers in 2008. By June 2011 I was back to 225 pounds. That's when I absolutely knew that surgery was right for me. The VSG was the best fit for me and I am now 5 days post op. I haven't stepped on the scale since the surgery, but the pre-op diet got me down to 206 on the day of surgery. My surgean repaired a hiatal hernia during the sleeve operation. Since I was a self pay (no insurance) my surgeon chose outpatient surgery center and I was home within 25 hours of surgery. I had pain accross my upper back and, of course, all sorts of stomach pain, gas, etc. After talking to my doctor, I realized I wasn't taking the full dose of liquid Lortab. I did finally get some relief. Day 5 and still no bowel movement, still have LOTS of gas, each day is better than the last, but overall more painful than I thought it would be.

    SOOO Frustrated!!

Can someone help me use this website? I had surgery on the 23rd, and I found this website by searching for why I was in so much pain. I registered, but never have used message boards or forums before.
