  1. If I'm reading your post right, no interest in drinking is not the same as unable to drink. Put yourself on a schedule to get your fluids in and keep drinking whether you eat or not. The 1.5 pound weight gain is probably because your body needed the IV fluids you were given. Don't let that stop you from drinking. Know that you must have water in your body in order to continue to lose weight and do so safely. One of the most important things I learned was that our body will eat muscle if we aren't providing it with the building blocks it needs (protein, water, vitamins) and it can cause major problems if the body decides that the heart muscle looks tasty.

I've lost over 100 pounds and have some weakness in my heart despite being religious about the protein, water and vitamin routines. You must do what your body needs, even if you don't want to do it. Set yourself an alarm clock and drink an ounce of water every 15 minutes or so until you get to a point where you can do it without thinking about it. Do whatever it takes. :)

  2. You are an amazing writer!!! I'm sorry I can't find a better superlative, but you have a wonderful way with words. I just relived your childhood while reading. If you aren't already a blogger, or planning to write a book, you should plan to do both!

  3. I'm glad to see you! :) I've been concerned about you! I'm sorry that things aren't MUCH better yet, but it sounds like they are at least working to address the problems.

If I could give you that break, I'd do it. Since I can't, I'll keep you in my prayers! (((Hugs)))

  4. Everyone has their own individual journey to follow. You have chosen the path that is right for you, so you walk your path. Hold your head up high. You've done all you can do. Maybe, just maybe, she'll see you get to goal in a healthy manner and it will inspire her to clean up her act. If not, you can't do anything more to help her. She's grown and she will do what she wants to do.

Good luck to YOU on YOUR journey!! :)

  5. I remember that it seemed like forever before I'd be sleeved and now the time seems like it's flying by again. It will get here sooner than you think. BTW, HOW do you have time to worry or think with FOUR small children? I'm in awe of you!

    Good luck!! :)

  6. Mammamia, I'm glad you are able to focus on what you can control. Let your higher power deal with the rest for now. If there is something you need to do on those other situations, you will know, but the situation will not get better just because you do or don't do something. :) Besides, following through with your surgery will help you take better care of yourself, which has positive benefits for others in your life!

Good luck!! We're keeping your spot on the loser's bench warm! :)

  7. You need a therapist. Knowing what drives you to eat is good, but a therapist will help you understand WHY you chose eating as your drug of choice...and help keep you from developing crossover addictions.

I see a therapist to deal with my issues with food. I, like you, ate my emotions because I didn't have another outlet. Some of my "friends" don't like the changes in how I deal with things now, but that is their problem, not mine. If being friends with someone requires that I accept being treated like crap, then I don't need that "friendship".

Hopefully you can find a good bariatric therapist, but any therapist is better than none for these issues.

  8. I'm so sorry about your complications! Like we say, it's a very low chance of complications, but it's devastating when it happens to you. I know you're on coumadin, and I hope that works well for you. I'm just coming off of nearly 9 months of coumadin therapy, so I know it's definitely not fun.

I'll keep you in my prayers and good for you and hubby for being your own best advocate!! :)

  9. You're not giving up your fun entirely. :) You'll still be able to cook amazing food and eat it, although you won't be on solids for a few weeks. I was watching the Food Network while I was still on liquids after surgery. For some strange reason, that was soothing to me, lol.

Exercise WILL become fun. I was the original non-exerciser before surgery, but now I'm addicted to that endorphin high that I get when I exercise. I think that it's gotten worse/better as I've seen results of the exercise. I walked the mall last night with a friend just because I could.

Yoga sounds so relaxing and zen-like. Maybe I should try that! :)

  10. It seems like everyone knows someone who died from WLS. And, no matter what the actual cause of death is, it's always blamed on WLS! I have heard horror stories time and again, but I've only met one person offline who actually even had/has complications from WLS. My late friend's sister in law came up to me at the funeral and told me all about her own problems with her WLS. I happen to know that this gal is totally non-compliant with her diet and exercise requirements, so I just nodded my head and thanked her for the information.

You do YOU and you'll continue to rock your sleeve! It sounds like you are doing terrific! :)

  11. Lady, Medical people are the worst patients, IMO. Call your doctor. To me, it sounds like you are dehydrated and that makes it difficult to think rationally. You may be dehydrated enough that you need an iv, but try to get some fluids in you. Warm broth went down easier for me than anything else early post-op. I've read that others even resorted to taking a spoonful of liquid at a time and letting it trickle down their throat. Whatever you need to do, you must get some fluids in before you end up having problems.

As for regretting the surgery, it's done, so you've got to find a way to wrap your mind around it. Concentrate on the positives, which is tough to do when you're feeling poorly. But, you're already losing weight and you will see the differences very quickly, including resolution of the co-morbidities.

    (((hugs))) It will get better.

  12. Me, you just have to find something that you like and do it. I second Fluffy's suggestion to load some good music on your phone or iPod and only listen to that music when you're working out. I'm fairly competitive, so that helps me as well.

Favoredone posted about a month ago that she did 7 miles on the exercise bike on her FIRST visit to the gym. That motivated me to try to up my mileage during my 30 minute a day ride...and it worked. I'm now consistently hitting the 7 mile mark, so I'm now working on getting to 7.5 miles in 30 minutes.

I like the idea of watching a tv show, too. I haven't tried that one, but it sounds like a great idea! :)

  13. LOVE IT! The mental image of someone else who is as uncoordinated as me is priceless!! I always feel like a moron when I try to follow a video, at least the first few times. For the most part, I stick to exercise that doesn't require me to keep up or imitate someone else...and you've just explained WHY! :)

Good luck on getting back on the wii. In no time you'll be doing it perfect! :)
