Hi everyone, I am scheduled for the Banded Plication on 9/6/11. I have been battling this weight problem for a good 20 years. I am looking forward to starting a better, healthier life. I do appreciate all the comments in this forum. I spent about two years contemplating whether to do this or not and now know that if I want to live longer, then this is the direction I must go. Over the last year I have attended seminars and researched online the different procedures. Initially, I just wanted the Lap Band. I tried to get my insurance company to okay the surgery, but unfortunately the company I work for opted out of that insurance to save money. After attending the seminar and hearing that you can use your 401k for financing without a penalty, that was my decision. Hey, if I don't get the surgery, I won't need the 401k anyway because I was running myself into an early grave. Besides, I can replenish the savings over time. I met with Dr. Adam Smith on July 14th. We had a very long discussion about the different procedures, giving me the good and bad of each one. He told me of his surgery with Lap Band and his struggles. He got the surgery about 10 years ago when it was a bit newer. He shared with me the advances that have come about with it. Then we discussed the Gastric Sleeve. His partners wife had the surgery earlier this year and lost 55 pounds in three months. That was encouraging except the thought that with the sleeve, there is always the possibility of one of the staples might cause a leak leading to sepsis. That bothered me. Then we discussed Banded Plication. This seemed to Me to be the best and safest of the procedures. Like getting a two for one and less complications! Anyway, that is what I am having done and really looking forward to having a healthier life. I will update after the surgery and let everyone know how it feels and my emotions with it. Thanks for having this forum.??
