  1. Well after the fill the Dr. said to be on liquids again for 2 days...its the only thing that will keep me full, I hate broths. On the 2nd day after my fill I ate 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes and they were fantastic! LOL. How do you hate milkshakes? It gets terribly easier...especially if you didnt have a fill with your surgery you can pretty much eat normally but like I said if you eat to fast it will hurt. I am making my own way pretty much, guess I am a rebel, I do my own thing and part of the Dr.'s orders. Its my first fill since my surgery and Dr said for me to go back once I feel that I need to...weird right? Words cant express how great I feel I did this...Weight loss varies depends on what I eat and if I over ate (before 1st fill cant really over eat now =[ ). You will look back and see that this is just the tiniest tip of the iceberg.
  2. Yes its hard getting use to eating slowly and I say this to you almost 2 months after my surgery. To be honest with you I stopped drinking Protein shakes after my surgery but then started again after my first fill. I would think that eggs should be good but try some blended Beans especially if you cook them yourself they will be better tasting. Try playing with your Protein Shakes to change up the nasty flavor...example 1/2 cup of yogurt (whichever) 1/2 cup of banana and strawberries (from the frozen section work fine and last longer) Splash of soy milk (vanilla flavor adds more) and 1/2 of serving of that terrible protein...and blend the crap out of it. The frozen fruit makes it taste like a smoothie, and you can add more milk to reduce the taste of the protein... refrigerate the left overs and have them the next day.

    Food Question

Probably not as much as you would want...try to listen to your stomach if you feel pain discomfort you should stop or slow down eating. After my surgery I kept on eating small "meals" a day. Or snacking all day...like 1/4 cup of broth and then a couple of hours later 1/2 a Jello cup etc...just pace yourself at your body's desire, it will tell you if its had enough. As per the blood...maybe it just a coincidence?
  4. Last 2 Final Exams tomorrow!

    Less Than 2 Days....

Pack some chap stick, after your surgery you wont be able to drink any water and your mouth gets terribly dry. They will give you some nasty tasting swabs to moisten your mouth and lips but it wasn't enough, at least not for me. I would gargle water and spit it out and it helped. Take some magazines or a cellphone. I stayed at the hospital 2 whole nights and didn't have anything to drink (Dr.'s orders) until 40hrs later. Be mentally prepared for that. I decided to stand up the same night after my surgery...just so that I could get to know my pain and that helped me recuperate faster. I suggest you try it. Also you might end up with 3-5 sometimes more surgical incisions in your stomach, they will seem like they are 1 foot wide but if you see them they vary between .5 - 1 inch. If you get to know your scars they will be less intimidating and will help you try to get up and move around. Sleeping at home was a pain, I bought a pillow that had arm rests and that helped me sleep almost upright in a sitting position...be prepared for that. Besides that the days will fly and you will love LOVE the decision you made. I no longer view food as my friend...HA! I hate food sometimes because of the discomfort it causes when I eat to fast or over eat. You will know what I mean later. It is a fantastic journey and definitively life changing! Also its OK to stray from the pre op or post of diets, at least in my case. I enjoyed a nice moderate breakfast meal the day before my surgery and then a protein shake for dinner. Don't stray too far, keep the consistency soft and mushy or you will regret it after surgery. I was in the middle of my semester when I had my surgery and I dont regret it a single bit even though it made me fall back on my school work. At any case I am rambling now...keep in touch and good luck!!!
  6. You might be eating too fast...I get discomfort as well when I eat too fast. There really isnt a set amount of calories you can have so limit yourself. Try different foods so you can have variety and not just mashed potatoes, even though that was also my favorite meal. Try some banana its soft enough for you to eat, make sure you chew thoroughly and give yourself time between each bite. Also make a list of the foods that give you discomfort, so you can try to avoid them. I have a new list of enemies that give me discomfort. Bread, tortillas, rice, and pretty much anything with breading. Sometimes ill have a small amount but I make sure to chew it all the way if not I get that pain you are talking about and then hiccups. Good luck, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

14 Pounds Post Lap Band Surgery?

Congrats! Its not broken I am sure...just don't weigh yourself everyday...maybe every week. 2 days after my surgery I lost 7lbs and then it slowed down then went up 1 or 2 then back down again and has been dropping a couple a day since my first fill. Enjoy the journey!

    Pre Lap Band Surgery Diet

Make yourself a 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes...dont add too much butter besides what the box says. This is what kept me going, the Protein shakes felt empty and I was sick of them. Also if you blend some bananas and strawberries and a 1/2 cup of milk with your shake it will make it taste almost like a smoothie. Good luck hang in there.... BTW I didnt really follow my pre op and post op diets and I was fine. Just had discomfort after the 3rd day of my surgery when I tried to eat a sandwich and realized that bread is my new enemy.
  12. I had a glass of wine on my 7th day :/ jajaja it felt great and filled me pretty fast. No side effects, enjoy 1 glass you deserve it!

    What Did You Eat Today?

Ive been banded since Oct. 21st, got my first fill Dec. 8th and today I ate... Breakfast: Chorizo (Mexican spicy sausage) with scrambled eggs about 1/2 cup serving. Late Lunch: Homemade Caesar salad. (I hated salads before but now that I cant eat bread due to the horrible discomfort I feel and terrible hiccups I get salads have become my new best friend) 1 banana Dinner: Probably some tuna rolled in a romaine leaf
  14. Yikes...sounds like a bummer. I have only had hardcore hiccups and discomfort when I feel the food trying to pass...I just got my fill Dec. 8th and I have not had any apples or acidity food. Hopefully it gets better for you.

    First Lap Band Fill

Hello, I had my first fill Thursday Dec. 8th and I am so glad I am on this part of the process. I didn't have any fluoro I don't even know what that is...I too thought that it would be more painful and lengthy but I was in an out in 15min. I got 4cc and glad because the weight is coming off faster. Cheers!

    6 month supervised diet

I had the same thing...my insurance provider emailed me the paperwork to turn into the dr every month...you should check in with them. I have United Health Care...its going to seem like you do all the work and its true...once ur appoved that's when he surgeon steps in etc for fills post op procedures and the works. Don't start with the mentality that its frustrating if you do its going to be a very long 6 months + for you. Look at it as its going to take a lot of commitments from you...not as easy getting banded as some think...at least with insurance. I've read on the individuals who pay 100% out of pocket get scheduled the same week....at any case sorry for rambling. Good luck with your new journey!

    What do you do?

I can see where he is coming from but although I am not a very religious person I believe that GOD will help those that will help themselves. I don't see how just praying for a solution will happen, no offense to you or him. I really think you should think about it some more since his comment shook you up. If you are still serious about it and its what you want then have a sit down with him and truly express how serious you are about this. The surgery is very brief and safe, perhaps he has questions on how its going to turn out and is probably nervous about it. Good luck.

    preop diet questions

I was told to do the "protein shake" diet 8 days before my surgery. I began eating less and just drank a shake for dinner. I lost a couple of pounds but still had "regular" meals here and there since I knew that I wouldn't be able to eat them for a while. I think the diet is more for the reason that they don't want you to gain any weight. Again I'm still loosing weigh post surgery even though I am not strictly on the liquid diet

    Getting my gallbladder removed first!

Good luck with this....remember that they are 2 different surgeries and that they are very different....I am sure the lap band is easier surgery than the gallbladder being removed.
  23. Oh sorry to hear but glad its turning better...so since your banding this is your first fill?

  24. pretty good...how about yourself?
