@RoyalAdpi how did your surgery go and how are your results so far?

I went well. I was back at work on monday after my sx on a Thursday. I have not had any issues. I lost about half the weight in 3 months and I lost the other half in 3 more months but I did take Mounjaro for 2 months to help me get the rest of the weight off. My surgeon prescribed it for me. It made me sick and constipated so I quit taking it. I was close enough to goal anyway and finished the rest by myself. I have maintained now for a month.

This is really interesting and super helpful - thank you for sharing your story! For someone 14 months out from sleeve, and at goal, it gives me hope that if things go wrong in the future there's something that can be done.

Do you know how much stomach there was to take away this time?

They didnt remove any this time. They only sewed it up tighter from the inside like a corset.

  3. I had endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.... they sewed it tighter from the inside using an endoscope. They dont cut anything so they dont call it surgery. Its outpatient. It kind of looks like a corset or shoelaces and cinches it up so the diameter is what is was after the first sleeve and it also makes it a little shorter too so you are full quicker and stay full longer. Its a great option for a revision if you have stretched it a bit and are holding more food now and eating more often. I am almost to goal 4 months post op from this revision of my sleeve.

  4. I was originally sleeved 8/11/11. I lost 100 pounds. Starting weight was 232, made my goal 13 months later at 135. After 8 years of weighing at or near goal, I had a lot of family tragedies and I gained about 47 pounds back. My highest weight from regain was 182. It was a slow gain over about 4 years or so. I had an ESG done to make my stomach back to the original sleeve size on 9/8/22, 11 years later. Its been 4 months and two holidays. Today I weigh 143. I am a normal BMI (145). So in summary, I have lost about 39 pounds with the ESG. I have few more I want to lose but its going great so far. My goal is to lose 11 more and make it back to my original goal weight I made for myself (132). My ESG surgeons goal for me was 145 and I have reached that already. I am more comfortable in the 130s however because I weighed that for about 7 years after my original sleeve. I just thought some of you would like to know what the progress has been a few months out from the procedure. No issues so far. I do have a little nausea occasionally but I don't eat very much food at all. Its kind of like the amount I ate when I was first sleeved. Hope this helps someone!

Ohh wow! That’s awesome! You did really great on the sleeve. I might have gotten to 185, but I never made my goal weight.

We are so similar. My body loves to store Water too. I can never get enough Water in. 4 bottles is a struggle let alone 5. I would love to get down to between 145 and 165. But, for now, I’m setting the bar low so I can meet small milestones. Lol

Sounds like you’re following the plan really well. I think that’s where I made my mistake. I’m going to continue eating right and watching the sneaky sugars.

If I do it, it’ll be At IBI healthcare or true you weight loss in GA. Who was your surgeon?

Dr. Huang. She is great! love her and the staff there. The PA is Sara and she is great too. I am a PA by profession so I am partial!

  6. I want to get back to my original goal weight which is 135. Im 5'4" tall. I stayed between 130 and 135 for almost 7 years. I slowly gained over the past 5 years til I reached 182. On surgery day, I weighed 177. My starting weight from the very beginning was 235 so we are close in stats! I have about 30 pounds to go. I just started on regular food because my doctor put me on clears for 10 days instead of 2 days and 2 weeks for each stage after that. I have a little trouble getting all the Water in but its helping me not to retain so much water. My body loves to store the water that I drink, if I dont get enough for it to decide I am not in a desert. lol. Good luck with whatever dicision you make. I am rooting for you to get to goal even if you dont have a revision. I am keeping my carbs low and Protein high. They say I dont have a set goal for carbs but I try to keep it under about 40.

  7. Hey! I just had the ESG last month after having a VSG 11 years ago. I had gained back 45 of the 110 pounds I lost in the last few years. Im loving it so far! restored my sleeve to its original size and shortened it. Its very cost effective and only one or two days of any discomfort. I never took a pain pill. I am down 20 pounds, 15 since day of surgery 5 weeks ago. I highly recommend it! I was very strict with the rules though and just got on regular food yesterday. I am a Physician Assistant in Neurosurgery so I work in healthcare and I do not recommend the bypass. I see lots of patients with almost 100 percent regain of weight and a lot of vomiting. Not everyone, but its something to consider. The anemia is another concern with the bypass.

  8. Hi! I had an ESG September 8th, 2022. I am about 5 weeks out and just started regular food yesterday. I was already sleeved 11 years ago and had gained back about 45 pounds. I had lost 110 originally. I have lost about 20 pounds now, 15 since surgery day. I am just starting my second journey but so far so good. I had it at IBI in Atlanta. The first day was a little uncomfortable and I rested a lot. I never took any pain meds though. I was afraid they would make me sick since we cant eat solid food yet. It cost about 6k dollars. They were having a special and I think they always do. lol. I have been happy with them and my care so far. I do all my visits telemedicine. I drove to Atlanta, had surgery the next morning, followed up the next day and then drove home. I live about 6 hours away. Two hotel nights . Hope that helps! Welcome!

I never heard of Re-Sleeve. I thought after sleeved- it’s next in line of bypass. Nonetheless, good luck.

It's an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty or esg. It is done from the inside of the stomach with no surgery. Only sutures placed to bring the sleeve back to its original size.

  10. I had a sleeve in 2011. I had an Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty revision two weeks ago because I gained 45 of the 100 I lost back and was struggling with my sleeve. It was stretched a bit and I was eating too many carbs. I had to do something. So far I am on full liquids and its going well. Its like a resleeve but they do it from the inside with sutures so Its not as invasive. Easy recovery. I had some gas pains but they were not that bad. By day three I was doing really good. I had it on a Thursday and went back to work Monday.

  11. Hi all. I used this forum for support during my VSG journey. It took me 13 months to get to goal. I was 234 and made it to 135 in 2012. I kept that off for the most part for about 7 years but slowly gained 10 pounds a year for the last few years. I weighed 177 when I had ESG revision two weeks ago tomorrow. I have lost to 169 so far. I want to be a part of this forum again. It helped me so much the first time. I only have 35 pounds to lose now. I hope to make it there by February. About 6 months. Who else has had this done? I am retaining Fluid because Im on full liquids and they are salty! I am struggling to get the Water in like usual but Im making a more concerted effort this time. Let me know if any one else has had this or is interested in it. Thanks guys!

  12. The old jeans from back in the day were cut different than today. See how long that zipper is? Those are classic cut jeans that were made for women with small waists, true waists. Jeans today have a very short zipper and the so called waist is really about mid-hip. Of course its going to have to be wider in that area. I have found since I am 46 years old, that when I was in college and weighed 135-145, I wore a size 5 and some 7's in junior sizes. I wear a 4/6 now at the same weight in misses. When I am closer to 135 the 4's fit better and the 6's closer to 145. I have not found anything I cant wear in those sizes and I have been at or near goal for 2 years. I think a lot if the problem is the cut has changed so much! AND now they add spandex to the jean material so we can squeeze in smaller sizes due to the extra stretch! lol

I know I was a size 20 when this all started and I bought all stretch to make that possible. I really should have worn a 22 but refused to. I think we have all been there before. I want to tell you though, that when I first started reading these boards, there was a woman who claimed to wear a 4 jeans, even had a picture of her squeezed in them with the tag showing the size, but she weighed 170-180 pounds and i was like there is NO freaking way. They must be missized. I dont care who you are or how your body is shaped, there is no way a woman, and she was short like me, could possibly say she wears a size 4 at that weight. NO WAY. So, I do believe there is vanity sizing going on out there. I dont want to take away from her accomplishments but at some point you have to say to yourself, self, is this the only pair of pants on the planet that are a size 4 that I can get on? If you cant just walk in a store and pick up any size 4 and have it fit comfortably, then you dont wear a 4. I think we can get a little dillusional when it comes to our size etc and we want to be successful so bad, it causes us to be a little bit fibby about it. Like putting 10 pounds less than you really weigh on your drivers license.

I felt a little disheartened after reading her posts about this miracle size 4. I kept thinking I hope I dont do that when and if I lose any weight. I think we should all be honest as we go through this journey together. We are not here to impress others. We are here for support and honesty is the best policy. Sorry about the tangent I just went on! lol

  13. I know the feeling. I am three years out now and maintained my 100 pound loss for two of those years. For the last almost year though, I have gained 12 pounds. I have been bouncing back and forth between 141 and 147 since about October of last year. I would tighten up some and get back to 141 and then it would slide again and I would be right back up to 145 or higher in a couple of weeks. It would take a few months to lose the 5 or 6 pounds only to find it back again after only a week of eating whatever I wanted. I have to learn that I cant just eat carby Snacks and think I wont gain!

I am back on track as of today. My NUT told me when I was trying to lose the last 12 pounds in a month (when getting to goal in one year) that it was possible, but I had to eat 30 carbs or less a day. She told me to get at least 70 grams of Protein and no more than 30 carbs--didnt matter the calories. It did work, I must say. I did reach my goal in three weeks from that day and kept it off for a whole year by eating high protein. I did snack some but it wasnt out of hand. Now, its out of hand. I dont snack every once in a while, I snack daily and graze a lot. I guess it is really feedback, not failure. I can see where I am going wrong. Its a hard habit to break though.

I set a new goal to have this extra weight back off by Halloween. That gives me about 7 weeks. I made a ticker. I logged my food today on mfp. I have set my goal and I am determined to reach it no matter what else is going on in my life. I have three jobs and school part time. I am one busy woman and snacking and bad food choices seem to go with that lifestyle really easily. I think to reach the goal, I need to prepare a little better so I am not stuck with bad food choices due to not having good choices readily available.

I wish you luck on your journey too. Maybe if you made a specific goal and made a ticker, started a challenge or some such, it would give you jump start you need to get that extra 20 back off. HTH

  14. Um' date=' do I detect a facetious undertone here? ;-)[/quote']

I've grown tired of this whole subject. I tried to help by saying what made me successful but alas my suggestions of Protein first and not overeating the sleeve were unwanted and unwelcome so I just wished her well. It's obvious she knows the secret to success and is not really here seeking advice from those who have already done it. It's seems that she merely wants to argue her point of view and I'm not going to engage in that further. It's a fruitless endeavour. I do genuinely wish her well. I am not a mean spirited person. I know when my thoughts are not welcome and that's fine. Sometimes in these posts you can't tell a person's intent and I was only trying to give advice that I was given. No harm meant but No use in beating a dead jackass. See you on another thread! I'm out! :-)

  15. Okay... 2 things.

1 - I hope you are not implying that by looking for information from professionals and published resources' date=' I am somehow searching for the answer I "want" to hear, because I feel that it would be foolish to blindly accept advice on my health decisions from someone on a forum that I have never met or particularly noticed the quality or tone of their posts, just because they say they know what they're talking about. Perhaps that part of your response wasn't directed toward me...

2 - You seem to indicate here that you believe I must be gorging or stuffing myself when I eat. You stated in your previous post that you often were so full you felt sick after you would eat. I admit to having made some mistakes on tolerable volumes and the appropriate speed which I can eat without discomfort during the learning process, but I currently rarely feel ill or any discomfort when I eat and am especially careful when eating any dense Protein because I am still adjusting to that. Perhaps you assume I am doing the same thing you did?

Okay, maybe 3 things... I actually do take offense to the implication that I am somehow trying to "cram" in calories. I am eating under my nutritionists guidelines. If you think it's silly to follow that recommendation, so be it. I would recommend that you don't follow it. Let me be very clear here. I understand that you believe you are right. And since you have been very successful, you clearly are right for you. However, I've never me you. To me, you are "a random". I'm unlikely to take your advice over someone I know to have a degree in nutrition, and that I found to be reasonable after lengthy discussion.[/quote']

You are absolutely right. You shouldn't take my advice or any other successful sleever for that matter. You seem like you already know everything and have it all figured out. I should have picked up on that when in your original post you were mad at your surgeon and took no responsibility for your weight gain. I will refrain from ever commenting on a post from you or one that you added your thoughts to previously. I don't have that kind of time to spend online arguing with a person who asked for advice but already knows it all. Good luck to you. I'm sure you will be a success however you define the term.

  16. Just my two cents worth, and it's only my opinion, but the lower the calories the better. I couldn't get in 700 until almost 6 months out. I reached my doctor's goal in 5 and mine in 6.

The PhD doctor that speaks at a support group I attend said that unless we are in a POW camp, we aren't going into starvation mode and low calories will not alter our metabolism. You can take that for what it's worth, but I went from who knows how many calories a day to starting out post op at 300, and never more than 800 when I was losing.

I was very cautious about what I ate, that whole honeymoon period thing was forefront in my mind. This has worked for me, like this doctor told us, we had surgery to eat less. I've been maintaining for over 2.5 years. At 1300 I maintain, at 1400 I gain. If i drop back to 900 - 1050, I'll lose. It's a fine line, but I'm finding it easy to do, knock on wood.

Me too! I lost my weight in 13 months and I didnt eat more then 800 a day and I didnt graduate up to that much until late in the year. Now, If I eat more than about 1400-1500 calories I WILL GAIN. I have to keep it to about 1200-1300 to maintain. I will lose if eat under 1100. My metabolism is so screwed from years of yo yo dieting that this is my reality. I am aware of it and I accept it. I am still very happy to maintain my loss and eat around 1200 a day from now on. Its a very fine line- the difference a single cookie makes. lol

  17. AKA... To go in search of the answer one WANTS to hear instead of the answer many EXPERIENCED and historically SUPPORTIVE people who have taken the time to thoughtfully compose from experience.

    Great idea! ;)

I love this! Why bother to ask experienced people when you can do research until you find what you WANT to hear. I have been a part of these boards for 2+years and I have been sleeved for the same amount of time. I do know MUCH about the sleeve. My sister, niece, best friend and husband are ALL sleeved, so its not just my experience I am basing my comments off of, its that of my entire family! I really think that 1100 calories would be damn near impossible to take in if you are newly sleeved AND its from a good Protein source- besides shakes that is.. I'm talking solid food. All I can advise is to follow the Protein first rule and you will be successful, and be patient. Trying to cram in more calories just doesn't make sense to me, I don't care how insane it sounds to only be eating 500 or so. Its not insane for a sleever! Our tummies are tiny! No need to go trying to stretch what you paid good money to make smaller! but,, I digress.

  18. Everyone here is different but the commonality is that we are sleeved. I averaged 400-500 calories a day for the first 6 months or so. Its all I could eat. I never worried about it. I had good success and it did slow down after the first three months. My surgeon didnt worry about it either and they never pushed me to eat more calories. It gradually increased as I could hold more food. I was 100% successful in my weight loss and hit my goal at 13 months post op. The moral is.. do not make it your GOAL to eat a prescribed amount of calories. Shoot for as much Protein as possible 70-100 grams and that's it. No need to push it. You will not be as successful as you could be if you do that. I am shocked you can hold 1100 calories right now unless its high calorie Protein Shakes. I have a friend who is also sleeved and her doctor harps on her about not eating enough. I think its all BS. I think you should eat protein first and not worry about calories. Lets face it, If you are eating lean meat, cheese, etc.. good protein sources, there is no room in there for carby foods and junk or anything else really. You cannot really compare how you eat now to how you used to eat presleeved. Its totally different and your body is now totally different. If you get enough protein and hydration, you will not feel weak even if it seems impossible to live on that few of calories. I didnt purposefully eat so few. I ate protein and I could not hold much. I was so full I was nearly sick each time I ate. I only snacked on protein as well. I ate no bread or Pasta or rice because it filled me up with one or two bites and made me uncomfortable. Good luck to you and I think that you should try to stick to mostly protein and always eat the protein first. Dont worry about calories, only protein. The weight will come off as long as you are following that simple rule. Good luck to you! You can do this!

  19. Tammi, you should be able to download this one and modify it for the next challenge, especially if you know your way around Excel just a bit. Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll try to walk you through it. I keep a more complex one for my own daily stats and have a blanked out copy posted for anyone that wants to try using it as well. Just let me know if you want to see it and I'll post a link and some instructions too.

Here's the link to this one: https://skydrive.liv...1!634&app=Excel

The link is not working. :(

  20. Now that we have a few weeks' worth of data, I created a tab in the measures spreadsheet with graphing capability. It's not much, but it can still be interesting. Open the spreadsheet and choose the "Graphs" tab at the bottom of the page. If you choose your name in the list on the right, your stats will show up in the chart. I'm including a screenshot of mine here for you to see what I mean:

    Halloween1010.jpg

Anyway, just having more fun with Excel. Enjoy!

    Link to online spreadsheet: http://sdrv.ms/19Qmc3j

I love this! Can I be added to it? I would love to know how to do something like this so I can keep it up. Thanks for creating this! Tammi

  21. I only started this challenge last Thursday but I am happy to report a loss!

    Starting weight this challenge 143

    Todays weight 139

    Total loss ~4

I am doing the 5:2 plan because I am trying to lose my 8 pound bounce back I experienced at the end of year 2. I have about 5 or 6 pounds to go! I hope to make it by Halloween!

  22. I'm two+ years out now and recently have put on about 8 pounds. Well, Im sure it was creeping on all summer. I want to get it back off before the end of November when I am scheduled to run in the Rock and Roll Marathon (5k). I know its late to join a challenge but they sure did help me when I was in the losing phase. I have about 20 days left in this challenge, so three weeks. I'm gonna shoot for all 8 pounds. I am not sure that is doable but I will never know unless I try and any loss is good so.... Here goes!
