Very good point! I am only 3 months out but already worry about this. Most of us have had the diet, gain, diet, lose, etc cycle and get used to it. I think when we have something that is successful it is human nature to worry about failure. However, regain isn't necessarily failure in this case. The fact that you realize these thoughts are there will keep you from developing a problem. You are on top of it! Good for you!! I'm glad you mentioned this. I worried about this in high school after losing weight and developed a problem. Hopefully being like you as realizing the signs Early will help.

jillw8 got a reaction from bcominganume in Let's Talk About Lifestyle Changes
I was sleeved 3 months ago and I have to say the mental aspect of this journey has been easier than I expected. I was worried that I would be an emotional wreck and not be able to follow the rules. However, the sleeve does something amazing. It takes away those strong hunger pains for junk and replaces it for (what I call normal) hunger signals.
I no longer crave carbs and junk. I eat healthy and really only want healthy things. I know that will probably change in the near future but I am preparing myself for it and taking it one day at a time.

I love the the Botox reference! My friend (who had a boob job) was being very negative. I asked her how it was any different from her breast augmentation--she did it for appearance and self-confidence, only differnece is- my surgery does not require a revision every 10-15 years (which they do!!!) It just makes me so frustrated to think of all that our society accepts but when it comes to obesity, we are shunned and laughed at. Yet ,when we do something about it we are looked at and judged for it. Makes no sense!!! Thanks for the Botox reference!!!!

I'm an RN, and now Family nurse practitioner as of April, I was sleeved August 30, 2011 and could not be happier! I started at 269 and now weigh 174. It was the best decision I ever made, even though it was a tough initial decision working in health care! I am 28 years old and haven't started a family yet but now we are nearly ready!

jillw8 got a reaction from Benjammin in Why Are My "supporters" Questioning My Choice.....? (Long)
I know exactly what you are going through. My sister was very close to me and was against my surgery from day 1. I explained to her why I was doing it (health, happiness, future children, etc) but she still didn't understand. She felt it was the easy way out. Even though she had seen me struggle and pay for diets, personal trainers, and more. I did my best to explain myself and before surgery she never really got it. 6 months after surgery and I had started training for relay marathon and had lost 70lbs. I received a random text from her apologizing for her doubt and congratulating on my new life and dedication.
My point is this: you do this for you and your non supporters will likely become your supporters. If not, it's okay. This is for you Jill

jillw8 got a reaction from KASA in Intake
I was the same way. I felt I was sipping too much but in reality it was okay. As long as you aren't getting pain you should be okay. I think getting in the habit of sipping all day is a good thing for after you are back on solid food. If it's habit you will meet your Water goals every day.

jillw8 got a reaction from New start in 8 weeks Post op: what I have learned
    1) I have no regrets! Down 40lbs so far!!
    2) Learning what our bodies and sleeves our capable of is a learning process. Taking the time to listen to them is important. Overeating by one bite is painful!
    3) I do not miss soda...I thought I would.
    4) Evreryone has their own journey. No one is the same and that is a good thing.
    5) life changes after the sleeve. The way you think, feel, eat, everything. But it is all for the good.
    6) I sometimes miss being able to eat a normal amount and miss drinking alcohol. Still worth it though.
    I LOVE MY SLEEVE!

jillw8 got a reaction from LilMissDiva Irene in Do the Staples scar over?
My surgeon explained it to me. He said the staples stay in place by our stomachs basically growing and adhering to them, forming a sealed edge. Our body heals around them and seals it shut.

jillw8 got a reaction from Soup-a-Woman in To sleeve or not to sleeve that is the question?
I know how you feel. I originally opted for the band but after researching both procedures success rates, failure rates, complications, and follow up appointments I knew that the sleeve was right for me. It isn't right for everyone that's why we have to research it. For me this is why i chose the sleeve:1) I have a 2 hour commute to my surgeon...so monthly appointments for at least a year wast appealing 2) the band failure rate was too high for me 3) when I googled horror stories for both I only found ones on the band 4) didn't like the idea of a permanent foreign body in my abdomen 5) I wanted something that was 100% permanent. I didn't want tp go through all of this for a procedure that wiuld need life time adjustments. And 6) it seemed the most easy and natural: no foreign bodies or injections and no rerouting of my guts. These were my personal reasons. Good luck in deciding!!

jillw8 got a reaction from CarolinaSleeve in throat gurgles
I think it is pretty normal. If you think about it your esophagus and stomach are basically one long, connected tube. If we overeat, even a couple bites or swallow air it is going to come up your throat. That's my logic anyway.

Im 9 days postop and trying to be a good patoent. So last night I'm walking my dog, walking, walking and bam! I'm on the sidewalk. I look down And managed to find the booby trap. A hole in the sidewalk perfectly hidden by grass. So I ended up with a twisted ankle, busted knee, and a laughing pizza delivery boy who happened to drive by. Ha! That must of been a sight. Had to limp my a$$ half mile home. Maybe today will be better.
