I just turned 51... so had all thus in my late 40s... so worth it.
However I think you need to accept your flawed body pre plastics or you may never be happy with plastics either. I interviewed several plastics patients and was shocked at people with great results who still wanted better. Kind of like massive weight loss...be sure to wrap your head around this, get over your dismorphia etc first.

I have finally reached my goal at 148 pounds after losing 230 pounds, 2 years after sleeve operation with Dr.Ortiz @ OCC in Tijuana Mexico.
I also had Arm and breast lift and skin removal in November . Followed by a belt-Lipectomy in March and Exstended Thigh lift and Upper Eye Lid Surgery in June.
All Plastic Surgeries were done by Dr Medina Sanchez at Ariel Center or OCC in Tijuana, he is the Chief of plastic surgery . My Results are amazing and I had no complications. There are before and after pictures in my profile Gallery. If you are looking into Plastic surgery After weight loss, I highly Recommend Dr Medina.
After dramatic weight loss you are faced with Loose skin. Yes, I will have scars, but they are worth it. And they become a very fine line that you can almost not see anymore. Well worth the results. The surgeries were painless for me.Your mobility is limited for the first 2 weeks and you find out how hard it is to get out of bed when you cant use your abs. Or how difficult it is to bend over and pick things from the floor. I was walking and doing normal activities within 2 weeks of surgery. We all heal differently, and i healed quickly. I did use compression garments because they do help with swelling and protect the scaring. I wore them each time for 4 weeks.
I love my Plastic Surgery results. I made me more confident, I feel good about myself, I enjoy a lot more of what life has to offer. I can go out in public without feeling that people are looking at me differently.I am healthy. I love traveling and now I can fit easily and comfortable in a middle seat on the plane. And after 30 years of hiding I bought a bikini, that I will proudly wear this summer at age 50. I have rediscovered myself. Thank you Dr Medina Sanchez, Dr Ortiz and the staff at OCC for your help on my life journey . It has been a wonderful experience.

    @@CowgirlJane
Thank you for telling me this. You are right. I really appreciate you telling me this. I sure was not trying to minimize her huge weight loss achievement. Sorry if it sounded that way.
Starting at a weight 100lbs higher than what I started at makes a significant difference in weight loss, and the reality of how much a person can loose.
I do not know my BMI when I had my weight loss surgery. I only have my starting weight before my surgery which was about around 270lbs. (I've weighted more that 270lbs a time or two) After the pre-op diet, I weighed in at 242lbs right before my sleeve.
I have continued to be successful because of my green leafy plant and fruit way of eating, (I do eat some meats) which I know is not popular among the WLS community, however it works for me. I no longer have to struggle.
Maybe if one thing does not work, trying something a little different may help others who may be struggling. That is all I was trying to say:-)

I am 4 years out and my currently weight is 129lbs. I am able to maintain my goal weight because I stick closely to eating tons of green vegetables, fruits, nuts and Beans along with a bit of occasional meat. (Geeen food offers plenty of protein) Otherwise, I look at food and gain weight.
I follow Dr. Matthew Weiner the author of, "A Pound of Cure." He is also a baratric surgeon with informative YouTube videos. (Great Book) I encourage you to read it cover to cover.
Dr. Joel Furhman is another doctor that I have followed, even before my WLS. Great website. Wonderful books. Helps me stay on track.
Joe Cross introduced me to juicing. I juice daily. Fresh green juice resets the body and helps with hunger, craving and weigh loss. "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" can be watched for free. Do a quick search on the internet.
    Drink lots of Water.

@@Sweet Pee thank you for sharing. I do think it is relevant to mention your starting BMI or weight because the hard cold reality is that it makes a difference. Not to minimize ANYONE'S achievements but for those of that started super morbidly obese or high BMI...our realities are a bit different.
Having said that. I was 52 BMI..and my lifetime high was even bigger and I love how I turned out...so there is hope for all of us!

    Hi Amazon,
I had a consult with Dr. Sauceda a few weeks ago. I found him to be very pleasant, but was extremely surprised that he seemed unfamiliar with Von Willebrands... even the recommended treatment during surgery. In comparison, I had a totally unplanned phone consult with Dr. Carmena Cardenas last Saturday and she was well versed and familiar with the treatments. Additionally, he made it a point to tell me how African American skin keloids, has poor scar healing, etc. Kind of like he was setting me up for disappointment....

Sweet Pee reacted to Smye in Thanks to WLS I'm finally pregnant!
I suspected immediately when I had my first episode of morning sickness. Not long after my sense of smell went into overdrive and even walking into the produce section of Safeway was impossible from the nauseating smell of raw fish at the fish counter on the other end of the store. The next day I found myself sobbing uncontrollably at the littlest things, even when I wasn't actually sad. Just yesterday a student of mine looked at me funny while I was teaching and I found myself with tears streaming down my face.
At first I was so excited, but then I started to worry. My belly wasn't growing with a little bundle of joy inside, it was shrinking rapidly. Am I having a reverse-baby somehow? Is that even a thing? Not to mention the fact that my wife and I haven't even had sex in the 20 months since our first child was born due to some complications from an incompetent surgeon. Maybe I'm not pregnant after all.
Fortunately, my 1-month post WLS appt was late last week and I determined to asked my doctor about it. He smiled sadly and assured me that everything would be okay before he went to check my bloodwork. When he came back in, he assured me that indeed, my estrogen levels, as well as several other female-associated hormone levels, were consistent with pregnancy. "Congratulations Smye, you're pregnant, but without the baby at the end."
That's right folks, a man, with many of the symptoms of early pregnancy due to rapid weight loss causing a mass-dump of estrogens into the bloodstream. Apparently it will pass once the loss slows down (hopefully no time soon).
To the ladies out there, in no way do I intend to say I know what it is like to be pregnant, I've only gotten a tiny taste here, but I hope you enjoyed.

Check out this video by a bariatric surgeon about why patients regain. Spoiler alert: Despite the video title, it ain't because their stomachs stretch. It's really worth the watch for anyone who is worrying about or struggling with regain.

Sweet Pee reacted to Kindle in Problems with follow-up in US after?
Find a new doctor who isn't so arrogant and ignorant. The U.S. does not have a monopoly on quality health care. In fact, my Mexico surgeon had more experience, better credentials and a lower complication rate than the 6 U.S. surgeons I looked at.
I had no complications postop and my surgeon's office was available for postop consult and questions 7 days/week. My PCP was fine with doing my followup bloodwork and would have supported me through any problems if they occurred. My OB/Gyn was also totally on board and volunteered to do bloodwork if I needed. She even got the name and contact info for my surgeon to pass on to other patients who's insurance doesn't cover WLS. I saw a gastroenterologist for an unrelated issue 2 months postop and he didn't have a problem with me having had surgery in Mexico, either.
Routine follow up can be done by your PCP, but maybe ask her to check around with other bariatric specialists in case you do have any complications. Make sure you pick a surgeon that is available postop and willing to answer any questions your PCP may have.

Oh yeah. I was in compression garments forever it seemed like. The first one I had was so tight, it took two people to get it on me! But no amount of compression was going to do anything about the severe soft-tissue swelling in my back.
@@gowalking Despite my complication, I still think having my plastics was one of the best choices I ever made. I did eventually fully recover and now I have been just enjoying the results for the past 3 years and will be enjoying them for MANY years to come. Even while I was going through my extended recovery, I had no regrets. The results are just so amazing and my flat stomach is now probably my favorite part of my body. I NEVER get tired of feeling it and looking at it. It is amazing being able to put on any pants or dress and have them lie completely flat in front. I would say the one down-side is that it's hard to find pants that are tight enough in the waits for my tiny stomach, but wide enough in the hips/butt. It seems like if they fit my butt, they are too loose in the waist. Not the worst problem in the world to have though.

It is completely normal to stall out or even gain in the second or third week post-op. It's called the "week 3 stall" and if you do a search for it on these forums, you will see HUNDREDS of posts about it. It happens to almost everyone. Stick to your plan. Get your Protein and Water and do some walking. The scale will start moving in the right direction again soon.

Sweet Pee reacted to VDB in The dumbest diet you tried?
When I was a fat young teen and feeling truly ashamed of myself for the first time, ashamed of being fat, I saw the AYDS boxes in the drug store and was too naive to know that hucksters reign. I did not have much money, but bought the boxes, convinced my problems were over. That "candy" was nasty, but I kept eating it. Did not lose an ounce and eventually put them in the back of my closet, throwing them away years later when I moved out.
We laugh about all these horrible diets, but underneath each is someone who got taken advantage of by greedy people and fake diets. But did that stop us? No -- the diets continued unabated, all the way to WLS -- which really works.

Ok, looking for the dumbest, silliest, craziest weight loss program you ever tried?
Mine was the Arnold Schwarzenegger diet. I saw it in a newspaper one day. Here was the diet -- (at the time Arnold was the President's Exercise Guru) -- Everytime there was a food decision to make, such as carrots or doughnuts, you just thought "What would Arnold do?". Of course, Arnold would have the carrots. I thought this was silly, but started trying it. Sure enough, a week later, down 5 pounds, then 10 the next week. My wife was pretending I was Arnold as well, but that is another story. Finally, after about three weeks, I said to the Arnold question -- "Well, screw Arnold"!! And that was that.

I remember my boobs were only skin and nipples. Yuck!
    I love them now.
Only a artistic surgeon could work with the tiny breast tissue I had left, and make them beautiful and symetrical without implants.
All of the other plastic surgeons told me I HAD to have implants.
