Sweet Pee reacted to Fiddleman in Fitness and sleeping
Ok - said I would wait one month, but I am happy to report that since the last post, I have slept very well. I feel much better. My muscles do not ache any longer, are not so tightly wound and my overall sense of well being has improved. If you have trouble sleeping and/or have maladies associated with magnesium deficiencies, do check out this product Natural Calm and read the online reviews about it. I think the working out intensely as a post op combined with a diet low in magnesium has led to my deficiency. Multivitamins and/ or fitness Water just do not have enough DV to make up for it so I am glad Natural Calm has helped out.

When I was down to my goal weight, a woman came into the gym for the first time weighing about 290lbs. She had on a skirt, t-shirt and tennis shoes. She sat on a recliner exercise bike. She stayed on it for 15 min. She came in regularly for 8 months. Fast forward - One day I went up to her and told her how good she looked and how much weight she had lost. (That was my first time talking to her although we had seen each other many times) She started to cry. She told me she has decided that day was going to be her last time at the gym, because she felt she had made no progress. She dried up her tears and told she will continue to come to the gym. She did and continued to lose weight.
Although I am in a skinny body now, I will alway know how it feels to be fat. Now when I see someone working hard to lose weight, I try to say something encouraging. You never know what might help.

I am still "fat" in a skinny body. I will always remember what it was like wishing that I was smaller. I use to beat my self up. I did not even want to eat in front of skinny people. Going to the gym was impossible. I did not go until I got down to 190lbs.
A greater joy and inner happiness can be had by helping others. A few words of encouragement can go a long ways. For me being overweight was dangerous and unhealthy. They may feel the same way. You never know what a few words of encouragement can do. You may save a life with just a pat on the back and a smile.

I've heard good things about Coconut oil, juice and milk generally, but I think the effect on thyroid function has been de-bunked by research. Which is not to say it shouldn't be taken, just not instead of thyroxine medication - not that you said you did that Sweetpee, but I've heard others say that.

Sweet Pee reacted to Laura V in Any food addicts here?
I've been reading this thread for the last couple of days.... I have started to answer once or twice only to erase and say why bother.
The fact of the matter responses from people that are further out often fall on deaf ears to the newly or about to be sleeved..
They (I did too) like to here the good not the bad.
Yes I have (not had) a food addiction. I am a binge (in secret) eater so I can relate to those of you that do it in secret.
When I first talked about wanting this surgery my husband said "why? You never eat".. I have since opened up to him and told him my dirty secrets.
Ok first off the sleeve DOES NOT CURE food ADDICTION! I need to get that out there. I read lipstick lady's response about it stopping her by throwing up. And another poster two weeks out agreeing with her and assuming this is the way it's going to be for everyone. Not so.
I love you lipstick you know that! But not all of us puke. I have not puked since being in the hospital.
Also the first 6 months? You are still healing believe it or not and for some of us it's easier to stay on track.. I say some of us because more and more I read posts from people that are very early out and are already falling back into their addictive ways. I didn't only because I was scared and followed what my doctor said to do.
Ok things change after the so called "honeymoon" period eating gets easier and you get hungrier and your capacity increases all at the same time like butter said.
But let's get back to addiction. I am an addict I ate when I was not hungry I ate till there was pain. So the pain of being full is not a new sensation.I would stuff food and I would wait and eat again. Obviously my need for food was not my stomach it was my head (and my mouth that constantly watered for food and the want to chew, taste).
The sleeve did not cure this. Yes it's a great tool and I've lost some weight, But I fight my addiction everyday still. Maybe I'm just hard core messed up..more than the rest? Maybe not. I see lots and lots of people that have had surgery and lose initially only to gain it back.. So I'm going to guess I'm not the only one that's got a problem with food.
I still wake up thinking about food and a lot of times I go to bed thinking about it. I still sneak into the kitchen and stuff something in my mouth when no one is looking (yes as I said I am a sneak eater) I'm succeeding for the most part. But I am still an addict and I will be the rest of my life.
Also the fact of the matter is junk food goes down so much easier than dense Protein ( you know the stuff we are supposed to eat) so it can really play with that addicted brain that wants more and more.
My name is Laura I am addicted to food and I'm a year out from VSG surgery.

Just thought I'd share: our local store had a sale on bison steaks so I picked some up for dinner just to try something new. I checked the label and in a 6 oz steak it is 180 cal and 40 grams of protein! Wow! I wish they were always on sale!

I remember being kinda surprised when my NUT told me that chips were off limits forever. She called them a slider food, but not in the traditional ice cream sense. But rather because they crunch up so small in your sleeve and have so many calories and no nutritional value, something we all know.
But I have way too much time on my hands so I decided to do some experiments just to see how small they would crunch up. Keep in mind my big blender died suddenly last night from unnatural causes so I had to use my wife's small pulse blender. I'm betting the big blender would have chomped these chips up even finer.
First victim....11.5 ounce bag of everybody's favorite "macho man" nacho cheese Doritos. 1680 total calories, 84g fat, 192g carbs.
    From this...
    To this....

That's about 2.5 cups of chips. Not a lot. I doubt I could hold that much volume right now but I could eat it over the course of a day or 2. Certainly before my sleeve I could eat 2.5 cups of food no problem.
