Sleeve, Band, Bypass...OH MY!! Seriously can't we all just get along? Who cares about what surgery? Support me and I sure as hell will support you and I don't care what surgery you had. Questions is what you chose...is IT working for you?

Okay now for my two cents. Those statistics are not true. If only 1% of the patients don't lose weight out of all the thousands that have surgery then I would say that is pretty good. Secondly the Bypass and Sleeve have more complications then the band ever could from mal nutrition to paralysis. In my nursing career if you could see how many by pass patients are deathly ill and fat because of anemia then you would definitely not choose the by pass. The sleeve you are taking away 85 percent of your stomach that you can NEVER get back. The lap bands success rate does depend on the doctor and the doctors are tired of having to follow up with their patients so much that they are pushing the other two surgeries. Once anything happens with the bypass or sleeve you are screwed. You can never get back what they took away ever in life. More bypass patients get the band over their bypass because they failed to keep the weight off. We have had more successful banders on this website then unsuccessful. You can say what you want about the lapband but I can tell you from seeing it all that the bypass and sleeve are not anything I would want done with my body. My daughter in law is so sick with her sleeve she is down to 103 pounds from not being able to eat. If you want to post things to bash the band then do it in the other forums where those people will do it also. I guess the band is not for you.

Anger issues? Only over band deniers who come here with an obvious agenda. Your post was so lopsided against the band I had to call you out for the obvious deceptive assertions. You're not the first and won't be the last. You should educate yourself before you make such claims.
And you should also lose the agenda. If you're truly here to help other forum members, try to show a little balance?
Thanks for posting the pro band slides that demonstrate why the band is a good choice for many people. And really, educate yourself, I've read some of your other negative posts regarding the band and you're poorly informed. I'm sure you're a hero to some forum members but to the well informed, you're posting nonsense.

This guy is still using data from 1995.
And it's sad that you had to go out of your way to disparage the band with so little to go on? What was your purpose for this post? What do you have to gain from making such outrageous assertions?
This is a common tactic coming from the sleeve side of this forum? It's getting old, ya know what I mean? If you have the sleeve, please refrain from disparaging other WLS techniques. Be thankful you're succeeding(and a big FYI, not every sleever does succeed) with your choice of WLS.
And obviously this is your extrapolation and opinion from this so called conference. And thanks so much for eliminating the 57 slides"(though many felt he had so many slides to try to really argue his position in favor of the band at this point)".

Well there's tons of anomalies on this forum then, I wish doctors wouldn't make such sweeping statements, I am only 7mls in a 14 cc band so half way really and I lost all my weight with that level of fill .. sorry but I think sometimes they concentrate on the more profit ridden operations like the sleeve and bypass and promote them accordingly, I am glad u managed to get another to do your fills, but no reason listen to his doom and gloom over the band there is still plenty of doctors that don't think the way he does ...

Cazzy got a reaction from jfc193 in Who had problems with sagging skin after weight loss?
I had saggy skin everywhere, but i had lost 237 lbs, theres many factors that contribute to sagging skin, amount of weight u lose, age, hormones, genetics etc, if u are going to get it theres not much u can do about it, is saggy skin worse than skin filled with fat ? i wore my saggy skin like a badge of honour till i had surgery to get rid of it all, but even without the plastic surgery losing weight was far more important. You have to ask yourself why u are worrying about saggy skin, but didnt worry about stretching it by being heavy
concentrate on things u can change and not things u cant ( not without money and surgery anyways )

Cazzy got a reaction from Lady VS in Sternum port placement.
I also have my port placed on my sternum, it is quite common for that here in the UK. As it is stitched to bone u rarely get any port movement or problems. It is also very handy being there in case u go in for any TT or other surgery on your abdomen as the port does not need to be moved, even with all my surgeries for skin removal the port didn't need moving and that included a major breast lift. It is very close to the surface with just skin over it so fills don't hurt and u may be able to see it once u lose all your weight and remove your bra, but not like some placement of ports where u can see them through clothing or if u wear a swimming costume or bikini. It doesn't get in the way if u sleep on your side and doesn't move around if u exercise. To me its a great place to have a port

Stall?? You've barely even started. You're not even 3 weeks post op yet. This is a time for healing. Don't focus on the calories. Focus on healing. Weight loss will come but it will take time. Remember this is not rapid weight loss. Just follow Doctor's orders and you should be good.

Cazzy got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in Almost a year of giving up on my lap band, now I want to start my journey again?
Its such a shame that you put yourself through this operation etc only to give up just 3 weeks after you were banded. I suggest a visit back to your surgeon and discuss whats happened, bite the bullet and just make that appointment, if you are serious u want to give this another shot, you need to jump through a few hoops again to get back on track. Good luck with it, not everyone is successful the first time, its just like trying to give up smoking, some will manage it some not the first time. Its not that you didnt manage first go at it, its what u do next thats important . good luck.

I would say that the 4lbs your lost when you couldn't drink Water was not fat but water. If you're still too tight to eat solid foods, you probably need MORE out. Despite what a lot of people think, being too tight will not help you lose weight. Being JUST right means you can stay full on a small amount of solid food for up to 4 hours and have enough energy to exercise as well. You can't live on Protein Shakes and little nibbles of Protein Bars.< /p>

Cazzy reacted to lellow in lipo on waist and thighs - finishing what I started
I'm a week away from my Lipo surgery now, and I'm getting nervous about the recovery. I need to be back at work within a few days (just starting with a new client) and I'm worried I won't be fit to do that.
Aside from that, I'm excited! Looked at myself in the mirror today and I honestly think if I get some definition in my waist and my thighs were shaved just a little, my 43 years old body is going to look as good as it's ever going to get. And probably better than it ever has been in my whole life too! How can I not be happy about that?

What does misadventure mean? Seems like there's much more to this story than just vomiting and a lack of communication?

She is from my hometown, and this article highlights the fact that people should disclose their medical history (lapband or not) when seeking medical attention. It's like a person with an allergy not mentioning that they're allergic to penicillin. :/
I have fronted at a emergency department before for excessive vomitting. The FIRST thing I said was that I had a lapband and I needed an unfill. Why on earth wouldn't you? So yes, absolutely this was preventable. It's such a tragedy.

I would hope that we are all "informed consumers", adults, and have taken the time to research the risks and POSSIBLE complications from having a gastric band placed.
Gotta love your "headline"...and the scare tactics attached to it. You are trying to compete with the sensationalist media perhaps?
ALL surgical procedures have risks associated with them...we all know this. We risk our lives every day when we drive a car...but we usually arrive at our destination unscathed.
Being morbidly obese also has very well studied and documented risks associated with it.
Please get real, and STOP beating the proverbial dead horse which this topic is. For every story of complications, there are many more stories of success.
It's partly playing the odds...and our odds are still overwhelmingly in our favor for successful and healthy weight loss.
I am a strong proponent of self determination...those of us who chose WLS did so with the understanding that we either had or were projected to have significant and serious health issues without losing weight. We are doing our best to beat the odds in our favor and improve our health.
So listen to the immortal Beatles, and "Let it be".

Until you get your band adjusted properly, this is just a diet so don't knock yourself out. It may take some time? It took me 4 months to get a little restriction but I made healthy food choices most of the time. Try to eat healthy but don't deprive yourself if you're feeling hungry. I probably ate 2 cups of food at mealtime but I tried to eat fish, chicken, veggies and salads. I just ate more than the 1/2 cup recommended.

For the most part you will do most of the work, the band will do some but not all. Its up to you and changing your eating habits that is the key to success. Everyone is different in how many fills it takes to help. The band will never stop you from eating it will keep you from being hungry for 4 or 5 hours on smaller amounts of food. People get restriction messed up. For some it stops the amount that you can eat but in all reality the food doesnt stay in your pouch long enough to make a difference. Even at my green zone if I want I can still eat a large plate of food. Its up to me to control that I wouldnt do that. I really think people are so misinformed about the way the band works.
