    Lap Band and personal stress

We were talking about this yesterday on a different post. Apparently yes, stress can constrict the band for quite a few people. I'm not banded yet but I anticipate that I will have this problem. I'm just going to have to try and relax. Getting some exercise might help.
  2. I vote that if you can afford it then do it. For some poeple it's just not an option. However you really need to look at your past history of weight issues. Have you tried other methods? This shouldn't be your first option if you haven't. If you have tried several other methods of weight loss and have gained the weight back over and over again then I would definitely consider it. That is really what the lap band is for, people who can't keep the weight off. We know how to lose weight, we just can't keep it from coming back. The other thing I would like to bring up is that people will drop $10,000 on a crappy used car in a heart beat, but for some reason they have a real hard time spending it on improving their quality of life. Your health, your future, any possible additional children you may be blessed with, this isn't worth $10,000? You're not worth the price of a used car? I'm pretty sure you are .

    Stress and Banding

I have to say this concerns me. I am a positive person but there are definite periods of stress in my life and I'm wondering if when I have the band placed I will have this problem as well.

    Constipation

Essentially the best means to relieve constipation is to get more fiber in your diet through whatever means you can. Food, your protein drinks fortified with fiber, fiber supplements and yes things like benefiber and etc added to your food. However if your bowel movements are normal but you just have a hard time with them, like its very hard to push them out (yes I known TMI) the a stool softener may be appropriate. Also make sure you get plenty of water in your system if that is the case.
  7. Love it! Keep up the great work!

    Exercise and drinkng water

I am pretty much exactly the same as you. I use to be able to work out really hard, even being fat I could spend an hour on the treadmill and yes I perspire like crazy so it's good to know that eventually we can go back to drinking adequate amounts of water. My hips and back are killing me and I can't wait to get this weight off.

    Any diabetics with the band?

Your news makes me happy cuz I'm right about where your A1C was when you started

    Any diabetics with the band?

It's the number one reason my PCP agreed that I should have it. Her patients that are Type 2 with the lap band have resolution of their diabetes generally within a few months and she was dead set against gastric bypass because there was nothing stopping you from eating yourself a new football sized stomach.
  12. The pre-op has nothing to do with the post op. It's simply to shrink your liver and prevent complications during surgery. You'll introduce real food and exercise, you'll be fine. A positive attitude goes a long way as well. You'll be fine

    I NEED TO VENT BADLY

Honey it is okay to be angry at the world! Scared, upset, unsure, worried - all of that! Find something other than food to relieve the tension. Exercise works wonders. Its a great way to clear your mind and de-stress. And yes, I agree, there is hopefully some sort of hotline provided for people such as yourself who are under a traumatic stress. Lots of hugs for you!!
  14. Did you do any research on him before you let him operate?

  15. Many many many lap band surgeries are out patient. Understand that your doctor will not let you leave the facility unless your physically stable to do so. Whether its 6 hours or 2 days. If there's a medically necessary reason to keep you there's not much that Aetna can say.
  16. I think its unrealistic to think that you will lose very much weight without restriction. I think its the downfall of a lot of mindsets on here. Wait until your band starts being filled before you worry. If you have good surgeons they will go over what you should be doing and working on the future not beating you up about the past.
  17. If you have questions for the surgeon I would right them down. By the time you're actually in the consultation you might forget some.

    Scared

And it won't be as bad as you think. Don't make it out to be more than what it is. You'll be fine

Why? I already feel like s**t about it.....

Why doesn't she pursue a different doctor?

    First Blog Post

Don't sweat the psych eval. They just want to make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into and that it's not a quick fix. They also want to make sure that if you are having care for any sort of psych problem that you are compliant with treatment. That's really it. You sound like you're doing both so I wouldn't sweat it at all.

How many hours in the hospital?

I'll be having my surgery at a surgical center. As soon as I can swallow drink and pee that's pretty much it providing there's no complications.
  25. My experience has been that BMI's between 35 and 40 do need co-morbidities for many insurance companies to approve.
