longer-life got a reaction from stella3108 in Popcorn After Gastric Sleeve Surgery....
Be careful. I went to the movies on my first week or two and when I told my surgeon "popcorn didn't kill me", he went pale! I meant the SMELL of popcorn didn't kill me. We had a good laugh afterwards, but him going pale tells you everything.

One more thing. I believe a "multiple prong approach" is what's going to get her the answer and in my opinion a therapist should be one of those components. We can be with someone for extended periods of time, but not 24 hours. She stops losing at around 30 pounds every time and that is something worth looking into physically and mentally. I wish you and your mom the best. Please keep us updated !!

Since you got sleeved so recently I think carbs like mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, yoghurt , soft vegetables, stewed fruits, apple sauce etc will go down much easier than Pasta, rice or bread. Best wishes!

longer-life got a reaction from snokb04 in Post Op Lactose Intolerance...why?
I have been lactose intolerant for about 20 years. There is a lot of products out in the market now. Lactaid brand not only has milk, but yogurt, ice cream and cottage cheese. Cabot cheeses are naturally lactose free. I am sure there are a lot more products out there. No need to miss out.

I haven't felt that way yet because I know I can have some later if I wanted to. However I have been fearing this on my upcoming vacation to France. I can't imagine only eating a bit of that awesome food and leaving the rest on the plate! It has been worrying me for weeks, which is terrible in itself! Aaaah!

Good for you for speaking up!
After insurance approval and the class then you have to do the pre-op tests Dr. Marema needs to get you ready for surgery. I am somewhat "healthy", so I had blood work, a chest X-ray, EKG and get clearance from my pulmonary doctor because I use a CPAP. (I did this in a matter of 2 days!) Then they schedule a date for surgery and a date to see Dr. Marema for a pre-op visit.
What insurance do you have? I have Aetna PPO
You will probably be able to do everything in Orlando, except the surgery. I'm not completely sure though. I understand your anxiety. It's terrible to have to have the surgery before a certain date because that just adds to the normal anxiety. I hope it can all be completed and you have surgery, even if its on the 31st! :smile1:

I carry most of my weight on my middle and as we know that is the deadliest kind, so I had the surgery to hopefully live longer. I want a longer life.

It is surprising to have so much energy so soon... right? I was pleasantly surprised as well. Don't push it though, remember you still had major surgery. Pamper yourselves for a few more weeks.
Congrats MissMarbe on your upcoming surgery!

Someone posted a few months ago that the first time they felt restriction, they closed their eyes, sat back, smiled and thought to themselves "This is the feeling I have wanted all my life." I have never forgotten this and it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY!!!!!! Hope it helps you.
You know what surprises me when eating out? That I don't know what to do with my hands! lol Since I no longer hold a fork and knife constantly (because we eat slow and finish before everyone else), I am fully conscious of my arms and hands and have to actually THINK where I am going to put them! LOL Weird right?

    Hi All,
I haven't been on here for a while, but it is good to see everyone is doing well! I had my sleeve surgery Oct. 20th, and while I am still not at goal, I have lost SO much more weight than I would have without this tool! AND I have had to buy an entire new wardrobe (Okay, not new, I buy second hand, because I am saving all of my money for GOAL clothes). I LOVE my sleeve!

I usually get an appetizer as my meal or my friends and I get an entree and a few sides and I get a small plate of whatever I want.. One of the waiter's at my fave restaurant (the Grand Lux Cafe) was concerned because I left most of my appetizer/entree on my plate.. I assured him I was good, the food was great and that I was saving room for dessert.. Which I was.. 1 chocolate chip pecan cookie!!
As far as the anxiety when dining w/ family and friends... I try and take my time and eat very slowly, engage in lively conversation and try to actually have a good dining experience... I totally understand though... I hope you find something that works for you, so you can be less frustrated....

Just an FYI---this may be TMI for some. So...it finally happened. I ate to fast, filled up my stomach and a little more and....well...up it came. I found it really strange. I haven't actually thrown up since surgery and that was violent dry heaving. This wasn't like the violent getting sick...but it just literally came back up. No convulsing, lol, no gagging, it just simply came back up and I spit it out.
Is that normal?? Is that what others have experienced? My sleeve is starting to take regular foods again and so I'm trying new stuff....but it still doesn't like some things. I got a little sick from Soup with to much grease in it too (I know...grease in soup?? Go figure)

Boy that was not his only mistake!! There is no way he will ever amount to any kind of medical personel. No bedside manner,Mad at everyone. I really feel sorry for him. Who knows why he is visiting or posting on this site? Maybe he has been banned from all the other sites? LOL, Oh well. We have eachother to lean on regardless of a few bad apples here. I will never reply to any rants from him after this post and I hope all will follow suit. Silence is the best approach! Wishing all of us great success with our surgeries and new friendships!

I know that before I had surgery I researched alllll of the good and bad. In addition, my surgeon was sure to explain to me of all the things that could go wrong. Although 'elective', this is MAJOR surgery, and definitley life changing.
I am sure most on here did the same as me. I have been reading your posts, and will take you for face value, and believe that you are just having a hard time with the after surgery life. We all are in one way or another. And I feel sorry for you. I am no professional, but I am a verrry positive person. I believe the energy I put out, is what comes back to me. I hope you understand that the participants of this forum are kind, and many ARE having a hard time, but keeping positive and keeping their eye on the goal of being healthy. It is simply mean to keep posting your negativity, without being constructive in some way...
I am only 3 weeks out, but if you need a friend to talk to, a support person, or someone to simply vent to, please message me, I would love to listen to your concerns, rather then seeing the negativity on here and getting everyone riled up...
    Hugs, sabrina

It seems that this is a person that just doesn't want to listen to reason. They claim to be a medical student, but yet it seems they knew absolutely nothing about this surgery before committing to it.
I had complications dealing with surgery. I was in the hospital three times, including an ER visit, within the first two weeks post-op. So I know this surgery isn't a magical, stress-free solution. Heck, at 3.5 months out, I still have trouble following a suitable diet plan. I overeat sometimes, and usually that makes me sick. Slowly, I'm learning. I know I have food issues, and this is a great forum to come and deal with it, whether you want to vent, inquire, or just learn from other people.
Whining about the surgery because you refuse to follow the plan isn't going to solve anything. Is your surgeon frustrated with you? Or do you just act this way on the internet, and all sweet towards her and don't tell her all the problems you're having? I have a feeling karma is going to bite you in the butt once you become a doctor and you have patients who refuse to listen to you.
Should this forum be all unicorns and rainbows? No, not really. People need to see the ups and downs, the pros and cons, the good and the bad of this surgery. It's a lifelong commitment. This surgery may help you with the physical aspect, but it doesn't help the emotional or mental one. You didn't get fat overnight. You didn't develop food related issues (because, really, pretty much all overweight/obese people have them) overnight. So this surgery isn't going to fix it overnight.
I hope your journey goes better for you.

Go slow though. Try starting with the softer foods that emlefe suggested like egg salad (or ham salad, tuna salad),tofu, laughing cow, yogurt, cottage cheese etc, in very small amounts. I couldn't eat chicken breast, deli meats or meatballs on my 5th week. Laughing cow and mozzarella string cheese had to be at room temperature. Similar to Emlefe, I was basically getting my nutrition from shakes (more like 80%) and sampling 1/2 ounce of this and 1/2 ounce of that. Consider getting new recipes for shakes so you can go easy on the solids. Our tummies do not all recover at the same speed. You will probably start tolerating more and more soon.
