  1. Hi all- I am a ER nurse and I have access many ports in my career and hand sanitizer is not a normal standard of care- Every healthcare professional who is giving you a fill should use cloraprepp which is a clear soap (alot like rubbing alcohol) or iodine. The hand sanitizer is weird and puts you at risk for an infection in my opinion. So on that not I would tell you to speak up, if you think what they are doing is not right ask questions. Now I will get off that soap box, I haven't posted much since my surgery but I love reading everyones input, I feel great now, I too, struggle with my diet at times, I am just trying really hard to stay positive and active. I am running a half marathon next weekend and I haven't done that for a few years, I am having a great time training, and I love that my body doesn't hurt all the time. Thanks for all of your positive energy and GG thanks for your recipes, I'm excited to try the chile. I think my kids would love it. I have been eating a lot of Beans and legumes for there Protein power. I hope all is well- stay strong all you A11's

Hi! Congrats on nursing school. Healthwoman said that the nurse put hand sanitizer on her abdomen prior to her fill. Not that the nurse used it on for her hands. Is that acceptable?

  2. Hey you A11's Now that some of you are getting fills - I want to know how much saline your getting with your first fill? I get my first fill on thursday the 15th and I want to know what to expect. I am a nurse and i access ports all the time but never lap band ports. I have watched a few fills on youtube, they are kind of crazy, Good luck to those who have got filled and those who are getting filled.

  3. I was banded today Aug. 19th, Doing pretty good- I have the worse pain in my left shoulder from the gas and and my hernia repair- I have walk every square inch of my house a few times. I have 3 small kids, (4,3,1) and a wonderful husband. I work as a nurse in a busy ER. but I am taking a few weeks off. I just want to know how long I can expect the shoulder pain? Anyone know?

  4. I was just wondering your outcome. I'm in the same boat as you- I submitted my appeal letter and I haven't heard anything. I was wondering if you appeals and what happend, and how long it took? I'm so anxious to see what they are going to say about my appeal? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can someone help out on ideas on what to put on my appeal ?

I am frustrated, as my LAP-Band procedure was denied by Tri-west today!

I did the "scavanger hunt" (PCM referral for consultation and seminar, attended the seminar, met with my surgeon, met with the psychiatrist, etc.. everyone approved for me to get my lap band surgery - except TRIWEST). :(

I sort of know that you either are 200% over your ideal weight, or weigh over 100 lbs plus have 1 morbid disease.. (HBP, Diabetes, etc.) to be approved for the procedure.

I am 100+lbs overweight, and with no co-morbid diseases.. However, I had Gestational Diabetes back in 2009 and had my gallbladder removed back in 2005. Have a family history of HBP, Heart attack, diabetes (granparents), and my dad actually has type 2 Diabetes. I've had anxiety attacks in the past, but other than that.. .. that's it.

Any suggestions on what to submit on my appeal ??? Referrals?? etc.. ?? I'd really apprecciate it..! Am frustrated and heartbroken! :S 2 months of doing all this .. to get a no..:(

  5. Tricare denied me because I didn't meet their requirements I get the 100lbs overweight with co-morbidities, but how do you figure out the 200% overweight ideal body weight. I am nurse and a very good one if I may say without sounding full of myself, but I have no idea how to figure that out? Anyone else know?

  6. I just found out yesterday that tricare denied my lap band surgery. I am so sad and I don't know where to go from here. I sent in a letter of appeal yesterday as well, to try to get the ball rolling there. I really really wanted to have my surgery asap. I am over 100lbs but just barely and I have high chonlesterol and a long history of diabetes in my family but so far I don't have it yet. I wanted to avoid getting any sicker than I am already. Any advice on how to get them to approve me? I just feel like someone knock the wind out of my sails.
