CAMMYD got a reaction from A New Life 4 Me in Why should we hide that we had surgery?
I see no shame in saying I made a decision to improve my quality of life and to opt. for longevity! Our co-morbidities were killing us so why be embarrased for make a positive step towards eliminating one of the key factors? I definitely don't think its the "easy" way out, to me its a "brave" decision. I have tried almost all of my adult life , I have always been on a diet and to no avail never saw my problems cease. So for those who want to pass judgement I reply , "I hope you never have to walk a day in my shoes, because I wish this on no one!" Even with the sleeve its not "easy" we do work at learning our new patterns and learning to work with what we have!

I had the can't fit on the rollercoaster experience summer before last and trust me it was humlitiating to have to get off in front of countless people I didnt even know , but most importantly in front of my friends I was at the park with , I wanted to vaporize or dissapear. I played it off saying I really didnt want to get on anyway and that I dont like rollercoasters that much, but deep down inside I was so embarrased I wanted to put my head on my mom's shoulder and get my cry out !!!!!! .
My co-morbidities had me taking medicaitions and experiencing all kinds of pains , so no its no joking matter to be obese. VSG is saving my life , thank God for this blessing !!!!!

Good for you! My opinion is that we ought to "out" this treatment for obesity and have it accepted for what it is - treatment for an issue that interferes with our being able to live a full life. If I remember right, it used to be that being treated for cancer was kept hush-hush and was thought to be embarassing. Illness and disease are a fact of life and getting treatment should be supported as taking life-affirming action - because it is! Won't happen until we who are getting the treatment talk about it as a matter-of-fact solution to a problem that millions share. End of sermon!

I took pics (posted on my page) the night before my surgery 6/26/11 and on each anniversary date of my surgery every month. On the pics you can definitely see the changes I am going through. I also took my measurements along the way too and even if I hadnt my clothes tell the story! All of my fall and winter clothes from last year are too big, I can no longer wear 16/18's I have moved into 12/14's my goal is to be in 9/ 10's by January. So keep track of your weight and measurements month to month so you have some idea of your progress , best wishes !!!!

Sweet Toni, I think we all have some degree of fear and angst of the unknown, anytime you are having a surgery and being sedated you have to have faith in your surgeon and the medical staff attending , I know I prayed about it and put in the Lords hands and kept it moving. Everything turned out execellent !!!!!!! I am so happy I made the decision , I am 3 mon. post op and I feel absolutely great !!!!!!!! I was a 16/18 and I am now 12/14 ,even though I dont see it my clothes tell the story and my breathing is not rough and loud anymore. Hope this helps , keep the faith it will all turn out fine!!!!

I CAN SOOO RELATE TO YOU. I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY!!! I TOO AM AN RN ( I TOOK 6 WEEKS OFF), I WAS SLEEVED ON 7-11-11 AND WAS STALLED FROM 8 DAYS AFTER SURGERY UNTIL 3 DAYS AGO. I WAS MORTIFIED THAT I HAD DONE THIS TO MY BODY AND I WAS GOING TO BE THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD THAT THIS WAS NOT GONNA WORK FOR!! U JUST HAVE TO TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME AND KNOW THAT YOU MADE THE RIGHT DECISION AND WILL LEAD A MUCH HEALTHIER LIFE. WE KNOW THE MEDICAL BENEFITS MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE CAN. MY MIL HAD LAP BAND 4 YEARS AGO AND LOST 114 LBS. SHE IS VERY HELPFUL FOR ME, BUT THIS WEBSITE HELPS ME SEE PEOPLE LIKE YOU, THAT FEEL THE SAME WAY AS ME. KEEP US POSTED ON YOUR PROGRESS. I WISH YOU THE BEST! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS! PS KEEP YOUR HEAD UP WHILE SWIMMING!!!

I thought i was going crazyyyyyy!!!!! Thank you for explaining and in a way that's acually understood. When would the average person expect that whoosh? I know everyone is different, but i am going on a 5 week stall and i eat right, workout ect. I am 8 weeks post -op and am down about 40lbs. But that's it, after the first three weeks nothing. I am seeing inches lost i guess that progress.

I have read a ton of blogs and forum posts in the last few weeks - as I have been fighting with my scale which is showing a 2-pound gain - and this one was so so so very helpful and informative! THANK YOU! The scale is going into the closet and the water bottle is going EVERYwhere with ME.
