  1. is pre-diet like broth, all liquids?Protein shake too
  2. hi, i am also pre-surgery. I've been told that you have broth, Clear liquids, i think thats it. To completed sleevers, can we also have Protein shake? can you reply to us what we should eat a couple of weeks before surgery. My doctor also does not require it? Is Jello included? What about SF popsicle (msp)? After surgery, is popsicle (msp) a small portion, or can you eat the whole popsicle? is it free food ? Thanx all you great looking sleeve people. WooHoo
  3. kathy here again - i meant to say my WLS is 12/6 - one month away!!!
  4. how happy are you  My WLS is 2/6 (can't wait) since my primary ins. is medicare, there is some beurocracy that i have to deal with. After ins. goes to medicare, it will then go to EMPIRE - where i have been told, its about 99% sure that i will be approved. Unfortunately, my paperwork can't be sent in until AFTER the surgery Thats how medicare works. So i won't have the "official" good word (hopefully) that i'm approved til about 6 weeks after surgery. If i'm not approved, which i don't think will happen - i can always do an objection, or whatever its called. My predermination has been approved. Again,Raquel, congrats on your approval. Heres to having your happiness sent over my way :tongue2: kathy

    Another bump in the road

I know a lot of people go to mexico for their surgery. My only concern would be what will be done for your necessary follow ups, question, problems etc. What is done, how do you handle it? kathy
  6. hi - i am one month before WLS - i never heard the express "head hunger" but if it means what i think it does, i like the expression. Does it refer to something like - yesterday i had 3 meals, later at night, my stomach was full, but i just wanted to chew, eat something cuz thats what i used to do while watching the tube? The hunger lost, i won - didn't eat!!! kathy

Breast Reduction and Lift Before Sleeve

As far as having a breat reduction DON'T do it til after the surgery. After you lose your weight, you'll be saggy, and the dr. will fix them by reduction, then "perK" them up. Do AFTER you lose weight. I had a double mastectomy 15 year ago w/my cancer. So I don't have to worry about breast reduction or wearing a bra woohoo!! You got to look at the good coming out of the bad.this is a test
  9. My surgery is 12/6/11. My dr. is very nice, I know the generals about the sleeve and other stuff, but I wish he would be more informative, and just talk to me alittle more about whats coming up. If I ask a ? he answers it of course, he just seems a little standoffish. I wish his bed side manner was better. Am I more concerned than I should be - does anyone else have a dr. who's bedside is a little cool, or am i just over reacting. He is a good surgeon, thats probably all that should matter? Kathy

    Wrinkles

I will be 58 in January. I don't believe i did this, but a few month ago, i went to plastic surgeon, asking what he could do about my turkey neck.(inherited from my mom) He said he could do this and that...and things would be alot better. I knew i would be having WLS eventually - he said i should not do it until my weight loss, so he can pull all the skin up. BTW it would cost $5,000.00!!!!! Nope i said to myself, i need to get thin, not broke.!! My surgery is 12/6, can't wait. I'd rather haved a successful weight loss than have cosmetic surgery.

    Insurance decision

i'm still waiting for my "official" ok. My surgery is 12/6/11. I have medicare as my primary, billing will send info to them after the WLS. They have up to 30 days to reply. Medicare DOES NOT except this surgery yet (in the near future it might). After the rejection is received by the office, it will go to my secodnary insurance - Empire, who does except the sleeve. The pre-determination for my surgery has been approved, but I will feel a sigh of relief when i get the official word that insurance has been approved. I won't her for about 7 wks. post surgery. If they so no, I'll try and fight it, but i think the word will be good. If nothing else works, and ins. doesn't cover, i'll have to be self pay As far as your? it does sometime take a while to hear back from insurance, so i'll cross my fingers and toes for you. best, kathy You can always fight if they refuse.

    How do I tell people?

I decided to only tell my daughter, husband, and mom (I wish I hadn't told her) I think its a personal choice to tell or not to. When they ask about how you're losing wt. et.al. you can honestly tell them you are eater smaller quantities of healthier foods, and exercising . If you don't want to say more (like me) then drop it.

    Stomach Size

test Hi - First off, congrats on your success. Totally terrific. My surgery isn't til 12/6/11 - so excited, can't wait!!! My fear is that I will eat too much, stretching my stomach out , gain weight, making the whole surgery worthless.!! My intent, is to eat even less than necessary for a bit til i become more confident with myself that I won't be as afraid that I might gain weight. I can't wait for my new life to begin as a healthier, happier person. Can't wait to be able to bend over to pick something up without huffing and puffing. Same as walking. Totally can't wait to buy off a regular clothes size, instead of buying 2-3x in plus sizes. God grant me patience, just hurry up about it!! Kathy :bigear:

    1yr Today I Change Me!!!

hey joe, what do you know!!! congrats on your success. I can't wait to follow in your footsteps. My surgery is 12/6/11 and I just can't wait. God give me patience, just hurry up about it!! Unfortunately this past month I kindof went bullistic and ate anything that wasn't hammered down. I GAINED almost 20lbs!! . Oh well, whats done is done. 11/11 I visit my mom in CA., and 2 days for thanksgiving I go to MA to be with extended family. Give me the strength to curb my eating. After thanksgiving I'll have 10 days before surgery to also have my shakes. At least not GAINING weight and losing 5 llbs would be ok. Wish me luck, and again - congrats on your new healthier life - thats what i'm heading for, and will accomplish!!! kathy

    Weight Watchers

totally true, as so many I tried WW many times - successful, then gained back. Hopefully w/the sleeve if I'm "good" I'll do terrific. My surgery is 12/6/2011. Can't wait - main think i'm afraid of, I hear that the stomach can stretch back, and you can eat too much, then gain the weight back!!! Thats hopefully only if you don't abide by the guidelines, and you do eat the right stuff, and stop when youre supposed to!!! kathy

    to a new life.....

ps - need to get down to 150 - I'm 5'3 and 235. Hopefully will be down to at least 230 by surgery date. Then i''ll "only" be 10 lbs over my starting weight!!! Wish I had done things different, but whats over is over. I'll be fine kathy

    to a new life.....

Being a newbie, and not too computer literate, I just found these great replies for my post WOW - I guess you all can hear me!! My dr. didn't tell me I needed to lose weight. When I started couple of months ago I weighed 220. Now I weigh 235!!! I figured I would eat stuff that I couldn't eat later. What a mistake. I've never weighed this much, 235.M My surgery is 12/6 - but - I will be visiting my mom in CA. for 4 days, then my siblings in MA for 2 days. This will help pass the time which is great!!! but ----I'm scared of eating too much. My mom knows about the surgery, so I know she'll help to try and "control" my eating - but i am not telling my 4 siblings. So I have to be soooo careful at thanksgiving. Bottom line - I have started to try and lose a few llbs. before the surgery, will be hard - have just over a week after thanksgiving to start one of those liquid diets. Maybe will start now for a bit. what do you think. i must be the only one in the whole world that gained weight before surgery. The dr. knows i gained but he didn't mention, nurse did though, surgery is definite thankfully still on 12/6. thanx for listening kathy

    Weightloss Expectations

I am 6 weeks pre-op. I need to lose 90-100 lbs. Once I reach goal, since I will continue to eat the same way, ounces and stuff, why wouldn't I keep losing weight? Obviously not to 0 (zero!) so what happens? maybe this is a silly question.... kathy

Walkers- How far do you walk and at what pace?

I broke my femur over a year ago, haven't really been able to exercise. Now my left leg is 1inch shorter than the other, so i have a built in lift on my bad foot. (shoe) Its hard to go to the gym and exercise. I am able to walk slowly on my treadmill though kathy- isn't some walking better than nothing at all? I'm sure it is, getting off my behind is better than sitting on the couch making a permanent dent on the couch from not moving!! - kathy

Hi I wish at 32 I had done this WLS. Losing touch

hi - my husband, daughter and mom are the only ones that know about my upcoming surgery 12/6/11. my husband is really the only one i talk to about the WLS. I wish I had never told daughter and mom. Oh well. I know I'm obsessive and talk alot about the sleeve and the surgery to my DH. He listens well, but sometimes I realize I've been talking about the WLS way too much. I stop talking about it for a few days. Then I start up again oh well. I love to go on different sites about all this stuff too. If thats all obsessing, then i am guilty!!! I cant' wait til tuesday, 11/1, when i can officially say my surgery is next month. going to visit my mom for 4 days mid november, then going away again for the holiday. This will make time fly, Before I know it, it will be time for the sleeve. Can't wait, like you - i'm just so excited I can't think of anything else, and thats ok. We made a big decision for the surgery, i know it will be worth it for all, and it is starting a new chapter in our lives - can't wait to start the book, but i will be patient until i get to the end. Even though it will be a forever book... kathy

    Bad Knees???

I was supposed to have a right knee replacement 10/11.. I mentioned my potential WLS to the orthopedic dr. - he suggested "strongly" that it would be a very good idea to have the WLS before the knee replacement. So my sleeve is 12/7, and the knee replacement is in the air for now,I hope to lose around 50 lbs before the knee surgery. You're not alone with your knee problems - not speaking for all, but i think since we have all that extra baggage we are carrying around - it only make sense that our knees hurt. we will feel better with some weight off. best to you kathy

    Leslie Sansone DVD's

there are physical reasons that i can't do basic cardio like eliptical, i was able to do it til a year ago. can't run around or anything like that. but can to treadmill slowly - and can do leslie video slowly (try to work up a little bit) hopefully 2 times a day - at least 4x a week. since i'm limited in excercise, will the above be significantly (msp) enough to be considered "proper" amount of excercise - and be beneficial. i know doing something is better than nothing, but will it help, i know others do so much more. any reply will be great - thanx kathy
