  1. Wow! This could be my reason for losing only 14 lbs, since surgery. I am insulin resistance which translate to "carbs hate me", but so many professional are dead set that the good carbs don't hurt, but I am finding they do.

I have been eating carbs and I haven't been losing weight as quickly as I thought I would. I just thought cutting back (since we can't eat that much) would do the trick, but it's not working. I guess I really need to consider take the carbs out. At least until I get to my goal.

    Thanks for the information!

My body is carb sensitive meaning that if I eat carbs, I won't lose weight. My body will burn those foods instead of fat. Even "good carbs" are not my friend if I want to lose weight, so I restrict all carbs to no more than 30-40gr of carbs per day for maximum weight loss.

Some people are carb sensitive as in; if they eat carbs, they want more carbs, and feel hunger. I do not suffer from this issue, but I also limited carbs very strictly in the losing stage to avoid any stalls or slow weight loss.

  2. I am also kind of like you, but ugh today I felt "dumping" at it's worst. Sweating, naseaus, and I realized JUST TODAY that just because I can take big bites and swallow no problem, that I still need to eat slow and chew.

I for some reason didn't clue into this earlier.

    what a mess!

I think this is different for everyone. I have to look at the quantity on the plate to judge because regardless of how slowly I eat I do not get a full signal and can go from OK to the next fork/spoonful being too much. I am 9 weeks out and am only just realising that my full signal is missing!

  3. Girl I have always heard you can't please them all, so at least be happy yourself and who you are. Don't let that stuff scare you people who hate other ppl for no reason or that are jealous will be that way no matter what.

I think you will be happy to be rid of some of that extra weight and feel good about yourself, so do what makes you happy and don't worry about that other stuff. That seems like it could be over whelming, just be a nice and decent person to others and if they don't accept you move on.

    Good luck! Laura

I dont know if im the only one that feels this way and I would like somebody to talk to plz. Here it goes........I'm 21 about to be 22 and I've been fat a majority of my life. Since I was 8 I've been picked on, taunted and all that jazz. At the age of 13 I lost 60lbs. So when I started HS i was 150lbs and was still made fun of but not as much. Also I had to deal with this new found attention i was getting from boys because I was thinner and had large breast (14 and was a DD). It got to the point that I got punched in the head because I 'thought I was cute." By prom I was 189lbs. Now I'm 239 and I'm on the journey to getting the surgery but I'm SCARED OUTA MY SHORTS!!!!!! I don't know what to expect from ppl. I'm afraid that people are going to try and harm me because they might become eaulous. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be cocky or anything but according to what ppl in my life have told me I have the type of personality that people hate me for. And if you add that to me possibly being 130lbs come Sept........I dont know how people are going to act towards me. Jealousy? Hatred? Acceptance........Idk

If you can offer me some words of experience or anything please do Thank You

  4. NO, sorry I am sleepy this am. I started working out in the morning last week and I am still getting use to getting up early. I meant I had an easy surgery on 09/02 and have only lost 13lbs.

My friend she has a lot more to lose than I did and she had a little more difficulty, but she is also older than me as well.

I had no issues at all, felt back to myself the same day.

    Laura

Wannasleeve: 13 lbs is still plenty of weight! I'm glad to hear your friend had such an easy surgery, I hope mine will be too! I am very optimistic.

    When was your surgery?

  5. You really have to do what you think is right for you. I know my weight issues started in my early 20's, when I got married and stop being active and that roller coaster ride with the weight is awful. I am "slightly older" than you :-), but serioulsy I felt the same way just so drained from my weight being a constant issue on my mind every single day.

I did this too be healthy now, wish they would have had it when I was younger because I missed a lot of years just living, because of my weight. In your heart and head you know what is going to make you happy. It is a risk, life is full of them. I pray and leave it God's hands, but I wanted off the roller coaster of weight gain.

Good luck I hope everything works out. My BMI was 34 and it was way lower post baby, but I gained the weight back and didn't want to start that all over again.

Hey everyone! This is my first post in the forum! Where to start? I am 26 years old, with a BMI around 29 or 30. To look at me you wouldn't think I am obese or anything, just overweight. I grew up as an obese child and have since lost 50 lbs, but keep on putting back the same 10, 20, 30 lbs back on my body. ITs so frustrating. To lose I feel that I basically need to starve myself and I gain back so quickly. Even though I'm only 26, I bet I have gained and lost 250 lbs over the course of my life! I have been dieting since I was 9, and thoughts of my weight, food, and how my clothes will fit consume my thoughts everyday. I feel as if I am insane sometimes. I can literaly gain and lose 20 lbs in a month. I can't imagine what I'm doing to my body, and I just can't diet anymore.

I am consdering getting the VS survery. My dad had it as a severely obese man and is doing amazingly, but I am afraid to talk to my parents about it. I know they think I am not overweight enough. Has anyone else been in this situation? I know I'm ready, and I want to better myself and my life. I know this will just be a vicious cycle that will continue for the rest of my life. I need some guidance and thoughts.

Thanks so much, and I look forward to getting to know some of you!

  6. My friend and I had surgery with Dr. Kelly on 09/02. NO issues, felt safe and my recovery well I felt like I didn't even have surgery. I had little to almost no pain or discomfort, but I got up and walked around as soon as they would let me.

    NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER.

But to me I seem to be a slow loser, because I have only lost 13lbs since surgery. BUT I have always had a hard time take the weight off due to diabetes.

Great experience glad I did, scale going down not up. So that is always a good thing.

    Laura

Thank you Tara! I am just 3 weeks away from surgery, and he is becoming concerned and skeptical. I do not want to have him trying to sway me away from surgery at the last minute! I have been doing months of research on VSG and Dr. Kelly, and though I'm quite confident with my choice, I know he will find things about him he is unsure about.

  7. WOW! AWESOME JOB!

I've always been afraid to post pics, but here it goes. The before shot is me with my best friend at my wedding in March 2010. I had my surgery in November in 2010. The after pic is yesterday. I was feeling pretty good about myself as I am wearing size 10 jeans. (A significant change from my 32s) I am still a work in progress and I would like to lose about 35 more pounds, but most days I just feel like a new person, almost a stranger to myself I'm happy to meet.

  8. Hey Angel,

I don't know if you are eating too much, but I am about 6 weeks out and I can eat what i think is a lot too. For example I could probably eat two boiled eggs and then feel full, but 2-3 hours later I feel hungry again.

My friend who had surgery the same day I did can barely eat a bite or two and she stops because it hurts. I really don't know the answer, but just letting you know you are not alone.

    Laura

Howdy fellow sleevers! I am 5 weeks out and during the day, eating about 5 oz a sitting. However, in the evening, it seems that I am able to eat more. Is anyone else having this problem? How much is everyone else able to eat? And is anyone feeling HUNGRY because I definitely am. Please help.

  9. Bring on the HOT guys! LOL :-) Go for it girl!

Hmmm... so I am just getting to the point where I feel comfortable dating. In fact, a couple weeks ago, I joined a dating site (I didn't date for nearly 10 years while morbidly obese because of self-esteem issues, so this is a big step for me). Now my questions is, can I date a really attractive, hot guy? I seem to find myself wanting to date guys that I would say are less physically attractive than me & who I'm not particularly attracted to. I was contacted by the HOTTEST man in the universe & I told him outright that I thought he was way too good looking for me. I think I must be crazy! Has anyone else had this experience of automatically rejecting what you really want? I know this is related to self-esteem issues, but how the h*ll do you get beyond that?

I'm going to be single forever at this rate :(

    Krista

  10. Good for you Italianlady!

    Laura

You have a wonderful husband and it's no wonder why you married him. My husband told me that I was too fat on our third date (I should have seen the red flags). He often questioned what i was eating, why I was eating it, watching me as I ate, counting the food in the cupboards to see what I had consumed.... I got so depressed I just kept getting fatter and fatter. I later found a letter he wrote to his brother about how I was not that good looking (everyone comments on how i'm a good looking girl even in my chubby days) that I needed to lose weight but I made a certain amount of money. Needless to say we are not together anymore but before I left him I made sure to have my surgery done and lose some weight so he could get some idea of what I look like slimmer.... and eat his f**king heart out a*****e! You are so so lucky and I hope I meet my prince who will love me no matter what.....SOON!

  11. They are not, the Dr I went (kelly), it was a hospital so there were 2 nurses and a Dr on call. If you pushed the button they were there and I had surgery on a Friday. My dr came on Saturday and Sunday.

The dr on call came to introduce himself and if we had complaints he came right away. Even to adjust the air.

    Laura

I hope not all Dr.'s in Mexico are like that one.

  12. Wow! Sorry for your bad experience. I had surgery in Mexico on 09/02 with Dr. Kelly. I had my surgery on a Friday and dr kelly checked in on us both saturday and sunday. Not to mention the hospital had nurses and a Dr on call which was there 24 hours.

The on call dr came to introduce himself and help with anything we needed. So any future sleevers don't think all Mexico place or the same.

Thanks for you experience and Take care!

    Laura

I'm 10 days post op and thought I would feel better than I do by now. I feel like I have let others down who were planning on going to Mx by not posting my experience sooner. I have mixed feelings about the choice I made. Dr. Almanza was great. I can't say anything negative about him. My experience was very difficult. I had surgery on Saturday and everyone leaves the clinic except for 1 nurse until Monday. I was always in pain and sick and he couldn't keep the meds straight. He wouldn't answer the call buttons at all at night. We had to scream for help. If that didn't work we would have to get a guest to help us until we could get the nurse to come upstairs. Most of the time he would refuse to give any meds saying it was too early you just had them. Which was not the case. He was confused on who he had given meds to. So we started writing it down and he still refused. The 1st night my hand that had the iv in it swelled up 3xs it's normal size so I asked him to change it. He put another on in but forgot to tape the top of it and it came out within an hour. When I finally got him to come fix it I had bled all over my bed. He said it was my fault for not taking care of my iv and for making my other hand fat. Which was actully swollen. No Dr came in the next day. No other nurse, just him. It was a horrible 2 nights. The recovery house was great. I was fully prepared to hate it and stay at a hotel. I loved it. Only minor issues there. Great staff, comfortable accomodations and never for one second felt unsafe. They however were out of gatorade and popsicles which I couldn't understand. The nurse there was super. By the time i got there though I had an infection starting in my incisions. The nurse at the hospital wasn't cleaning my incisions and changing my bandages. He said they looked good. I went to my dr 7 days post op and he decided my stitches needed to come out earlier than he would have liked due to the redness and my low grade temp. Had issues getting them out because they were put in too tightly and one incision had knots all through it which ripped my incision back open. He said it should heal but if not I will have to see a surgeon to get it fixed. I got what I paid for.....a sleeve, but the care in the hospital was pathetic. Would I do it again? I'm not ready to answer that question yet. We will see. I sure did suffer for 2 days and it was all because of 1 nurse. I think it would have been different had I not had it done on a Saturday. At this point I wouldn't encourage anyone or discourage anyone from going there. As long as you know what to expect that is a decision for each person to make. For the price quoted you get very basic after care. If you are ok with that and can handle pain and being sick then it's a great deal however you should know it is what is is. An inexpensive surgery. They are not there to go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable.

  13. I was sleeved with dr kelly on 09/02 and like you I carry most all my weight in my stomach. My legs and arms are small, and my butt if you could call it that (lol) not really much there at all.

I remember when I wanted to tone up and lose weight I worked on the stair master and elipictical those were so good for toning. Plus I use to love to run on the treadmill and my belly fat seem to melt away.

I am just now trying to get back to the gym every other day, because I am in no way ready for running. I will have to work at that, but I have never seen the weight fall of so fast as I did when I got up to running.

Each day I would run for as long as I could and then rest and before I knew it I could run for an entire hour. Talk about over all toning that made everything tight.

At a year of working on the treadmill I was up to running at 7speed for an hour, wow that felt good. Then I became pg, had my son and haven't been back to the gym consistently in 4 years.

Also, gym people tell me to add 15 minutes of weights everyday from the beginning, but for some reason I just couldn't get into weights. All though they really do the body good. I just found it boring.

but seriously running will melt your belly. Let me know how it goes...

    Good luck!

    Laura

    Hello all!

So I was sleeved March 15th of this year and and lost 97lbs in 5.5 months...(I didn't lose anything in August...my own fault..kinda took a break). I've been walking for about 3-5x a week for exercise but haven't for the last 3 weeks or so due to rain and wind(yes i'm a woose),. I want to do something different but am not sure where to start and what exercises to focus on. I am apple shaped and carry almost ALL of my weight on my belly. ugh! My upper arms, thighs, and butt(what little butt i even have!) have become flabby and I have about 38lbs to go (almost all in the tummy).

What I want to know is ...What exercises should I now focus on? Cardio of course and strength training to tone up the flabby parts. But how much cardio? How often? When to throw in weights/bands? During the workout? Alternate days with strength training and cardio? What's a good workout?

(ps. I'd rather go to a gym than workout at home)

Please let me know what others have do/done that works/worked. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

  14. What a blessing and so exciting! My son is 3 years old and I just started back to work 6mos. ago and I can't wait to burn rubber to get to him after work.

    So precious!

And on the another note, you look so tiny everwhere else.

    Laura

    HA (made ya look) ;)

34week baby bump, it's kind of hard to see because I took this with iPhone camera, but there are a couple of protrusions from my belly and those little bumps would be her FEET ! ! !

    34weekbarebump.jpg

This was taken about 10-14 days ago. . . She's dropped a tiny bit, and rounded out in front, I'm really basketball shaped from the front, and no one can tell from the back that I'm pregnant.

    33weeks.jpg

    31 days until her arrival ! ! !

  15. Awww! Well good luck to you. I know I think everyone is really nervous, but in all honesty to me anyway it wasn't bad at all. Just get up and walk as soon as you can and you will be fine.

    Keep us updated!

    Laura

I had my final appointment with the surgeon today. I walk into the office and talk to the office manager first and I get more info on the surgery date, I already knew it was 10/11 but he told me surgery is at 7:30am and I need to be there at 5:30 and all that other stuff.

I thought I was handling it all well. I thought I had everything under control ... I guess that was where I made the mistake!

After telling me about the day of surgery he brings me back and takes my blood pressure (which is always low). He didn't tell me what it was but his response was, "ummm are you feeling ok? Are you nervous or excited or something? I'm going to need you to take some deep breaths and try to calm down".

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I was trying to appear so calm, cool and collected but I guess inside I was freaking out!

After my appointment I head back to work with my new Optifast shakes that I need to start drinking. I drink part of a bottle of Water and then try to pour the vanilla powder into the bottle. It wasn't going so well so I made a funnel out of paper ... that didn't work so well either so I tried to pour it again and I'm pretty sure that half of the white powder spilled all over the carpet and my jeans. The worst part is, I CAN'T GET IT OFF THE CARPET OR MY JEANS! It honestly looks like a drug deal gone bad at my desk right now.

I'm hopeful that things will get better from here!

    :)

  16. I had surgery with dr Kelly on 09/02 and mine was $5560.00 + 382.00 for airfare and about $100.00 spending money. They even had to get my diabetes under control and cut out some scar tissue from a lap band I had years ago and didn't charge me a dime more.

    Laura

I am researching where I want to do the gastric sleeve since I am self pay. I have had a couple doctors quote me anywhere between 11k and 15k here in Florida and a couple of quotes from Mexico that the ad says 5k but people end up paying way more, close to 10k.

My husband said for only a couple thousand difference, he rather me have it here in Fl for 11k. How much was your surgery in mexico??

    Thank you

  17. Glad you made it threw surgery ok.

God Bless and keep us updated!

    Laura

How are yesterday's sleevers doing? My surgery went well. I've had a lot of nausea, but thankfully have not vomited. Unfortunately, I have had the hiccups twice- ouch! I was in a lot of pain yesterday, but I realized that my pain this morning is hunger. The hubby is heating up some broth right now. Hope everyone is doing well

  18. Hello twice shy,

you should be able to go to the top right corner and in the search area type in SUZ and then click the down arrow and choose members. It will bring up all the suz and hopefully you will recognize her.

    Good Luck!:D

I signed on here a month or more ago and then got nervous about this because I have already had a gastric bypass about 18-20 years ago and my weight is almost back up to where I began. Someone who responded to my posting kind of scared me into putting off a re-do of my surgery but I just can't get this out of my mind and I want to try to see if the lap band can work for me.

In visiting the Jerusalem Hospital website one of the testimonials there was from a woman in Meridian Idaho named Suz. She indicated that she was a former bypass patient and had just undergone the lap band surgery at the Jerusalem clinic. As I am living in Idaho myself and I will be in the Boise area all this week, I would love to connect with Suz to find out how things are going since her surgery and specifically, how having the second procedure is working after already having the bypass.

If you are out there Suz, I would really like to pick your brain about your experience. Otherwise, if anyone has had an experience with getting the lab band after a bypass I'd really be happy to hear about your story as well.

I am pretty determined this time that I am going to go for it, but it would be nice to have some peace of mind by talking with a real person about their experiences. So thanks in advance for anyone who responds.

  19. Well I just gave you one! I think people have to click the + sign at the bottom of your post. Which meansyou get a thumbs up I am supposing.

    Laura

mine has said "neutral" since the beginning... what gives?

  20. Praying for you girl!

See you on the sleeved side! LOL :D

Tomorrow is my big day & I'm so excited!!

I finally told my husband yesterday & although he's still upset, I have peace of mind!! September 27, 2011 will be my Independence Day!! For those of you that believe in prayer, please say one for me; that I will come out of surgery successful, have a long healthy life ahead & be surrounded by my loved ones!! This is my prayer for each of you as well.

As one of our fellow sleevers told me, "See you on the healthy/skinny side!!"

    Peace & blessings!! :D
