I didn't read every post, but I am going to respond to those who say "this is your responsibility", I called my insurance FIVE different times and ASKED them SPECIFICALLY if I had to do a 6 month monitored diet. I was told no all FIVE times. I went through ALL of the insurance documents provided to me and the insurance website. The insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office could not get an answer from them either. SO after HOURS of "my responsibility", I called the HR dept at hubby's work and they sent over the specifics. And there it was. It should have not taken me literally 6 hours of research to get such a basic answer.
I JUST finished my 6 month of weigh ins and my stuff was called in yesterday. I was in your shoes not to long ago. It will pass, and you can spend everyday on here learning like I did. Best of luck on your journey!

fattymcfatterson got a reaction from Looking Ahead in Week 5- So Depressing / Disgusting To Eat
My oncologist, who recommends the sleeve, who said "it will be the best medical decision of your life", who sees women who HAD cancer get the cancer REVERSED with the sleeve as part of treatment, he says don't be afraid to take anti-depressants. Your body is going through many changes, and these women who should be giddy with happiness because they no longer have cancer, come to his office depressed.. If I notice my moods are hitting a low, I will get them, , and take them, so nobody hates me later, and then when I am further along in my loss I will figure out what works better for coping (hopefully exercise). Just make sure you never stop taking them cold turkey. You need to be weaned off them under a physician's supervision. See you on the loser's bench soon!

    The Back Story
In February of 2012 I was diagnosed with “complex endometrial hyperplasia with atypia”. Basically, pre-cancerous cells of the uterus. My gyno said at 40 it was a slim chance of my getting pregnant and I should have a hysterectomy. I asked him if my chances of getting prego after WLS would increase and he said that my egg condition would probably decrease even more and it would be a miracle if I got prego. At this time I had decided already to get the sleeve and was not sure what to do about the hyster. He said if I was not going to schedule the hyster very soon I should come back in 6 months and have another d&c to test my endo cells. In june I decided to meet with another bariatric surgeon, Dr. Cribbins in Dallas, for 2 reasons. His pre-op diet was NOT liquid only, and he did surgery with the davinci robot (less pain, faster recovery). I had the thought that maybe I could get both the WLS and the hyster at the same time, with one recovery and one bout with Hair loss. He said that would not be a problem and referred me to a gynecological oncologist who he worked with before that sends his patients over for the sleeve. Today, July 11, I went and met with the gyno onco, Dr. Heffernan of Dallas, FULLY expecting to hear you need a hyster and we can do it at the same time as WLS. Well, he unexpectedly threw me a curve ball…..
This is basically what Dr. H said:
“Women who are obese produce an ongoing, UNOPPOSED stream of estrogen. This stream of estrogen over a long period of time changes our endometrial lining when it is not opposed by progesterone. “
So basically, some endo cancers are caused by obesity. He has had people with my same diagnosis, get RID of their abnormal endo cells and have no cancer or pre-cancerous cells! He has had women with endometrial CANCER, get cured of the cancer!!!!!!!!!
What is the combination? Progesterone treatment (megace orally or mirena iud) and weight loss (recommends the sleeve)! Why weight loss? Because we lose that overabundance of estrogen created from being fat or from PCOS. He said that getting the sleeve is the best medical intervention life saving/changing thing I could do.
I heard everything he said but did not process it until during my 1.5 hour drive home. I could possibly not need a hysterectomy and may not have to slam the door shut on having a child???? And, not develop cancer???? I thought my choices were, get hysterectomy, or get cancer. He gave me a 3 month scrip for megace and said it was possible by the time I had my hysterectomy my stuff could be all cleared up. Say what???
This morning when I woke up I was convinced I was going to be getting hysterectomy and sleeve in the same shot late august early sept. Now it looks like I will be getting a endo biopsy/d&c in a month, and if it is not WORSE then what I had in January, just getting the sleeve and maybe an IUD. And who knows, a year from now maybe I will be pregnant.
In my 20 years of being Fatty McFatterson, I NEVER had heard that obesity was/or could be directly related to endometrial/cervical cancers. Now I am obligated to let many people know!! I REALLY hope this long (poorly written cuz it is late and my mind is racing and tired) post can help someone in their decision to change their health!!!!!!

I am sorry you felt that humiliation. Sometimes I think these things happen to solidify our decision of getting sleeved. My preschoolers graduated this Friday and I had the full intention of being BEHIND the camera.. Well, that changed. There I was in my most unflattering work polo shirt, my sports bra boob smooshing bra and no gut sucker underneath. Out of nervousness i seemed to keep my fat little arms unnaturally close to my body, like that cartoon dinosaur from I think meet the robinsons "I have a big head and little arms." Anyways, it was horrible to watch. I did some creative cropping on the video to try to limit the constant side view of Miss Fatty McFatterson.... But, I am now forever etched in the videos of the class of 2012. (Thank GOD preschoolers don't judge you by your weight!!!) I am more then ready to get this done when my 6 mo diet is over. I guess my point is don't let humiliation have the victory... The victory is this will be the last time you experience this and when you are flying skinny you will probly look for the girl who is facing humiliation and rescue her. You will always have compassion because you lived it. I pray your surgery and recovery go textbook and look forward to joining you on the losers bench, where we ALL fit!

I know my being fat makes a few people feel better about themselves. Sorry to them. And ready4success, I sense the underlying problem with your friend is shame. She had it, failed, now you are, and any success you have where she failed is going to cause her shame to be magnified. I don't think her issue is with you, I think it is with her shame. Don't give up on her friendship and don't take it "personal". She may feel she can't relate to you and your excitement because she failed with her tool. Maybe try to help her "restart" her tool and take the journey with you. I wish you both the best!

oOoohhhh I am SO hoping to join you August sleevers! I have my final appointment on my 6 month "diet" on July 24. WIll have all my other requirements met by then so we can submit to insurance. I am having my surgery with Dr. Cribbins at Plano Presbyterian and may be having a hysterectomy at the same time. I go see a gynecological oncologist on July 11 for a second opinion and if he says it's the right thing then I will get a 2 for 1. Both surgeons would use the davinci robot for my surgery so recovery should not be more then 2 weeks. My pre-op diet is vegetarian supplemented with Protein Shakes. So glad I get to eat regular food those two weeks! I can do that!! If not August, then hopefully early september, we will see. Oh, i am 41, 5 ft 1, 230-232lbs, and I have been overweight since I was 22. I have thought about switching to plant based diet but I still have to care for my husband and my step sons, who are 12 and 14. NObody likes tomatoes or mushrooms, one doesn't like corn, and they are all picky and vocal about when they don't like something. I am doing this for me. ANd if you have not tried about time Protein, you really should!!!! It has been the absolute best so far and I have tried ALOT. It is sweetened with stevia and just sooo good. www.tryabouttime.com

I am (hair) thin from a procedure I had done in january so i am trying anything i can. Even looking at that powder you pu on your white skull to make it look fuller. Hoping the other stuff works..

Oh my. I can't believe this is going through my head again!!! We have some friends who have just jumped on the "FIre ENgine #2" plant based diet. They are loving it and are kindly giving my fat husband and I encouragement to read the books and give it a shot. I watched the "forks over knives" dvd and I would LOVe to do a plant based diet with tomatoes, mushrooms, quinoa, Beans etc. Well, a few years ago we tried to cut out meat and cut back on dairy and the scene went like this. I worked hard to get the recipes, make the food, then we would sit down to eat and SOMEONE would hate something about every meal. My step sons (12 & 14) would not like the corn, or the texture of the beans, and God FORBID I dare make anything with fresh tomatoes and OMG is that a MUSHROOM???? Well, not being encouraged I say screw it and go back to what they like, hamburger helper, spagetti, rice, rotel cheese dips, pizza, all the stuff that packs the pounds on me (and my husband). So I make the decision to get the sleeve. And here I am again, thinking "If we just eat a plant based diet I won't have to get my stomach cut out and NEVER have another DP or never be able to eat more then 6 ozs and never be able to chug my water... " So, I am making a two week menu of plant based food and I will write down all of their gripes and complaints over the healthy food I am cooking them. I am not TELLING any of them I am doing this. The funny thing is, my 12 year old, who is the one kid who knows I am having the sleeve, watched the video with me and says "Why don't you do this instead of the sleeve?" and I have to say because you boys and your dad won't let me. I don't have the time, energy or desire to make TWO meals every night!! I feel like just keeping the fridge stocked with salad and toppings and telling them that is what we are eating from now on. ugh. I need a Dr Pepper right now.. I think I am going to miss that the most but I know it is SOOOO bad for me. All that sugar. Praying the thought of it makes me sick after surgery. Thank you for letting me vent.

I won't be sleeved until August or September but am already starting a skin routine. I moisturize daily with a mix of Almond/coconut/vitamin e/grapeseed/jojoba oil and I am starting my dry skin brushing routine. This is where I learned about it. http://t-tapp.com/success/michellep/index.html It may not take care of it completely but I am sure it will be better then nothing. Actually, to be honest, I am only moisturizing the right side of my torso so I can see if I SEE a difference. And my inner thighs. yikes.

Right now I am not scared. Everytime I eat I think about what will be different after surgery. I read TONS every day and have started a notebook with all the info I want to remember later (recipes, suggestions, a weight graph, my lab work etc). I believe I will be successful at losing (finally) and have a goal for an average of 2lbs per week. I look forward to being able to enjoy some of my old faves tweaked and in wayyyy smaller portions. I am VERY excited!!

I did not see your age, but let me share with you what happens in the blink of an eye. I turned 40 last June and have been significantly over weight since at least 25 (over 200lbs at 5ft1). I always was "fat and healthy", so I thought. In the last year I have had to start on bp meds, i am right at the border of becoming diabetic and, I have most likely lost my opportunity to have a biological child. I am not sure how old you are, but let me tell you, if you are under 40, DON'T WASTE TIME!!!!! You don't want to wake up one day ready to finally deal with it and find out you are too late for some lifelong dreams you had. Where is your doctor going to be then? This is YOUR life. Your decision. I pray the BEST for you!

I was recently asked if I could find a place to donate a used CPAP machine that someone had. I called a friend of mine who is the director of a free health clinic in my town and I also called my respiratory therapist. They both said donated CPAP's are like GOLD for people on Medicaid/Medicare or have no insurance. Apparently there are many people in nursing homes who could really see improvement if they had a CPAP. So, my goal is: to have my insurance pay for my cpap, use it religiously, get my sleeve, get off it, and donate it. IF you are done with yours and it is just taking up space, please consider donating it to someone who could really use it to change the quality of their life.

I could go to a surgeon who requires a 2 week of REAL food, meat/veggie/protein/low carb or a surgeon that doesn't give you an option of which Protein to use and is 2 week liquid. I am 2 months into my supervised 6 month diet so I have time to change my mind. They are both highly regarded surgeons and insurance pays. This gives me more to consider. Best of luck to you.. I will follow your posts to see how you do.

This is a recipe for my homemade whipped Shea butter. Shea butter is used to even skin tone and moisturize. The other oils have many apparent qualities.
    8 oz unrefined Shea butter
    2 tbspns coconut oil
    1 tbspn jojoba oil
    1 tbspn Vitamin E oil
    1 tbspn bio oil (optional)
Everything should be room temp. First whip the shea butter with blender till its soft no lumps. Then add in the oils and whip till light and fluffy.
Now enjoy. I put this all over right when I get out the shower, best thing is it lasts alllllll day long. By nighttime my skin is still soft !
    Enjoy
