  1. I gained so much weight the first week because of water retention. It was horrible. Then I spent the next two weeks losing that water weight. At week 3, I stalled for almost a month. Right about week 6 it started melting off. Seriously just dropping off. Now it steadily drops off. You just have to be patient. I wanted to lose it all immediately. Reality check, how long did it take you to become overweight? It's going to take just as long or longer to lose it. Be patient and don't worry yourself to death right now. Just go through the steps and remember this is a great tool. Make it work for you and you'll go far. Good luck and congrats!

    Being Treated Differently

    As a nurse, I have definitely noticed problems at job interviews. I have actually had potential employers ask me if I was sure I could handle being on my feet. Really? Before I graduated nursing school, I was a restaurant manager for years. You think being a nurse has you on your feet? Trying spending 16 hours on your feet, schmoozing customers, and running circles on a cooks line. Ugh. I might be big, but I can keep up with the best. Unfortunately, it's just one, of many, stereotypes that are rampant in our society. You just have to hold your head up and move on.
  3. So my stall started at week 2 and lasted almost a month. I'm on the heavier side and expected quicker weight loss as a result. My high weight was 422, pre-op 408, and I gained 10 pounds Water weight in the hospital. Yuck. I quickly dropped to 387 two weeks post op and stayed there. For almost a month! Luckily, I took the boards advice and kept measurements. In my 4 week stall I lost 33 inches and that's ok. However, I am super pleased to announce that, on weigh in today, I lost 11 lbs last week! Yay! My stall is over! I guess I just want those that are struggling with stalls to know that it does end and you do lose inches. Just stick with it and be patient.

    Celery question

    I peel the spines off of mine and enjoy celery every now and then. I'm at 6 weeks. It's super yummy and my nut said that was fine. So good with peanut butter. Hope you get to enjoy some soon!
  7. Lol I did the exact same thing about abdominal soreness. My surgeon and I had a great laugh about it. it's amazing what exercise does! I've been in a stall for 3 weeks now, weight wise. My question to you is, do you measure inches? I've found that in the last 3 weeks, I'm not losing weight, but I am definitely losing inches. I still can't tell looking at myself, but the tape doesn't lie. Hang in there! You're doing great and they'll start dropping soon enough!

    What does "full" feel like now?

    My full signal is a bubble. When I went to mushies is when I first noticed it. Like a bubble starts at the bottom of my stomach and rolls up. If I eat even another bite, it doesn't stay down. I do get the hiccup too, but only after I'm done eating and am putting my plate up. It's very important to eat slowly and learn your signal. As soon as you get to a more solid texture, you'll understand!

    Cabin Fever

    I think it'll be great! I wish we had a support group in town. It's amazing how wonderful they are. I love mine so much that I drive 2 hours to get to it. hope that you have a great day out, enjoying the sun!
  10. I read a post below asking what nsv stands for and I thought it would be great to hear about everyone's non scale victories (nsv) for the week. How did your sleeve make you smile? This week I successfully completed a whole hour of p90x without dying! It was hell, but I never could have done it 6 weeks ago. Also, since my last measuring june 8th, I have lost 33 1/2 inches from my body. Yay!
  11. I went back to work after 10 days and I'm a nurse that works 12 hour shift on my feet. I think that you should be able to do it. Just make sure that you check with your surgeon first.

    The negative people

    It is so important to remember that people are shrouded in ignorance. They think that we have the surgery and the weight just falls off. No one, especially thin people, understand the hard work and effort that we put into our new tool. If anyone could walk a day in our shoes, especially the first 30 days, they would sing a different tune. While I agree that you should probably delete him, just remember that his ignorance knows no better. There will always be another like him. Just brush it off and remember how well you are doing. This is for you and your health, no one else. You deserve better then people like that. to him and all others like him.

  14. Thank you for sharing your story. I was almost 60 bmi the day of my surgery and I struggled hard about having the sleeve or the bypass. Although the bypass has my group dropping pounds faster, I too am having a better success story. Stick with it! We'll be ok! Good luck to you!
  15. I am 6 weeks post op and just starting to overcome my buyer's remorse. I still have days that all I feel is regret, but I am finally starting to have days where I am happy with my choice. I know that one day soon I will have more good days then bad. For now, I am just thankful that I am finally starting to have good days.

    Oh NO! 10 days out! HELP!

    I did the same thing around the same time. We are definitely creatures of habit. Mine was a lemon frosted cookie. Was getting one for my nephew and just popped it in. Obviously, I survived. You just have to conciously be more careful and break your habits. I'm sure that you'll be fine. Just keep an eye out for fever, nausea, and pain across your abdomen. If you think you're having a problem, go straight to the ER or call your surgeon's answering service and have him contacted. It will be okay, I'm sure. Just learn from your errors.
  17. I had my 1 month check up on 6/29. It's actually 5 weeks since my surgery. I have struggled with depression since day 2 post op, but it's just getting worse. As of 6/29 I have lost 21 lbs since my surgery date on 5/23 and I have lost 30 lbs since 2 weeks before surgery. I hit the dreaded stall at week 3 and haven't moved since. I know that I have done great, but I don't feel like I have lost a single pound. I don't see it anywhere and no one has said anything to me about losing weight. I guess I feel like I am failing my sleeve. I feel like I have sabatoged myself or something. I alternate walking and aerobics daily and I am pretty good about what I eat. My calories hang out between 500-800 a day. Depending. I did have a few days where I munched on some slider foods that I really just wanted to taste again, but I am mostly good about my food choices. I hit 64 oz of Water minimum and 60grams of Protein. I guess I feel like this surgery consumes every minute of my life. It's always about the surgery. What to eat, where to eat, how much to eat, what I can lift, how I work out, etc... For something that consumes me constantly, I can't see any change. Sure, my pants fit a little looser, but not much. I don't think that I was emotionally ready for this at all. Anyone have any ideas on how to get over this slump? How do you guys make it through the overwhelming feelings? Where was everyone's weight loss at 5 weeks? I just want to feel like this is normal and I'm going to be okay. Thanks for letting me vent.

    I understand what you mean about the comfort. The best way I can describe it is that somedays I feel like I lost my best friend. I recommend a counselor. It really is a great help.

    Thank you EVERYONE for the kind words. I think the emotional rollercoaster with this is the biggest part. I really was not prepared emotionally. I know that I'm doing great. I also know that I have 170 pounds to lose and that makes seeing the end result a little harder. I struggled with depression and anxiety long before my sleeve and will fight it for a lifetime. I have Multiple Sclerosis and that makes this battle hell. The stress from the surgery causes MS flair ups and then I'm in bed for days feeling like I'm going to die. Just ready to scream. I needed a good vent to people who understand and that's what I did. Thank God for my psychiatrist, counselor, neurologist, and my several happy pills. Lord only knows where I wouldn't be without them. Really can't thank you all enough. You words and article were just what a girl needed during a bad week!

    Tummy Trouble

    I agree. I came off my PPI too early and had the problems that you are describing. I would chalk it up to gas and see if the ppi helps. If not, you can always ask the doc.
  22. I know it's a hard thing. I'm surrounded by a lot of people that are quick to judge. I didn't keep my journey a secret and I wish that I had been more selective about who I told. It's just ignorance. Ignore what they have to say and stay strong. Remember, you can always get support here. We all understand!
  23. I haven't tried it since my sleeve because I'm still on activity restriction. However, I love tai chi and used to do it all the time. The first month of it snuck up on me and I felt exactly like you described. It works you harder than you think.
  24. I think that everyone else has said it, but I'm going to say it again. It does get better. Day 4 after surgery was hell for me and it also happened to be my birthday. I cried the entire day. For me, day 8 or so was really when it started to get a little easier and now I'm 4 weeks out and it's so much better. You made a drastic change to your body, but you will be sooooo thankful for it very soon. This forum has been a life saver for me. Just take some time and read through the posts. You'll see how normal you're feeling now and the great things that you have to look forward to. ::hugs::
