I've had a lap-band for going on 6 years. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I will give you my opinion, or collective data - whichever you prefer. I'm here researching revision, so my experience isn't the best, but it has been good. I'm happy to answer any questions.
I don't want to sound harsh, but you might want to put things on hold a bit. "I'll get whatever insurance covers, but I don't know what that is" is not going to set you up for the most success. RNY and VSG are apples and oranges, and your preparation for each, expectations, recovery, etc. are going to be really different. It's not something you want to be a surprise. Or - maybe you're equally prepared for either?
BTW, I see you have 215 lbs to lose. I had 200 to lose, when I got my band. I am osing my band, and even if I weren't, I would not advocate for the band as a long term procedure -- but it is possible to be a higher BMI patient and reach goal with a band.
Thank you!! I am okay now with not getting the Lap Band.....I have read the horror stories....as far as being prepared I am 100% prepared for which ever surgery I am able to have I have extensively researched EVERY option I didn't come up with the idea to have surgery over night.....I know 3 people personally who have had Gastric Bypass I think having first hand knowledge and being able to see the progress they have made is great....So far my Doctors office says the Sleeve has been approved(*****KEEPING FINGERS CROSSED***********)

So the journey to WLS as we all know is long and hard!! I feel like I have done a great job of holding my emotions together very well so far. Well yesterday I felt like I ran into a brick wall going 80 MPH on a motorcycle. I have completed all of my pre-op appointments and getting clearance from the Cardiologist and Pulmonologist and my Primary Doctor!!! I got the call a month ago that insurance approved the Lapband procedure and I am schedlued for August 8th...let me take you back a little bit I have been going back and fort between gastric sleeve and lap band I had been considering all of my options and had decided on Lapband.....Well yesterday I get a phone call from my doctor and as soon as I saw the number come up on my phone I felt my heart drop into my stomach it was the worst feeling ever. I was told by the Doctors assistant that he had decided he wasn't going to put a lapband in me that he felt it wouldn't be affective and give the results that I need....I know everyone says well thats good right?? Well it is I have battled my weight my entire life and I trust my doctor he is one of the best in the area I live in....I just wasn't expecting this huge change only 2 weeks away from surgery!! It scares me a little....I get nausea from pain medication and anesthesia. Oh well just venting a little so I am set for August 8th Vertical Sleeve or Gastric Bypass which ever one is approved by Insurance I am PRAYING that it is the sleeve!!!

The muscle milk Cookies and cream is sooo good! It's ready made... I'll have to try the one you mention:)
I love the Cookies and cream Muscle Milk!!! I just ordered banana and Strawaberry should be here tomorrow.....I have tried TONS of Protien shakes and haven't like any of them I was so relieved that I liked Muscle Milk and it is reasonable!!!!

I am scheduled for August 8th!! I am not so much nervous but I am VERY ANXIOUS to start my new life. I have ALWAYS been the fat girl and the heaviest in the family all of my cousins are stick thin and model. I have wanted that life for SO long and now in 23 days I can start my journey towards that life!! My family is all 20000%% supportive of me.....They have asked questions and are ready to help me through the whole process!! Also as far as protien drinks are concerned I had a HELL of a time trying to find one that didn't make me want to throw up while drinking it. But I did find Muscle Milk Light and it is SO good they have a variety of flavors I buy on Amazon.com it is much cheaper than a health store. =)

MY SURGERY IS AUGUST 8TH I AM SO EXCITED!! I HAVE A COUNTDOWN GOING AT WORK LOL!!! MY PRE-OP DIET STARTS ON THE 25TH I AM NERVOUS ABOUT THAT!!
-
Starting my pre-op diet this Sunday. Any suggestions to make it thru? I do great during the day. It's the evening I have trouble with. I can eat a whole days calories from 7pm to 10pm if I am not careful.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
What are you doing for a pre-op diet?
-
My Surgery is August 5 and I'm so excited and scared!!! I start my pre-op diet on Friday!!! Do you have to do a pre op diet?
Yes I do have a pre-op diet. I started taking my Vitamin yesterday and I start my pre-op diet on the 25th. What do you have to do? My diet consist of drinking 4 high protien shakes a day, Water, crystal light, sugar free Jello and pop sicles for 2 weeks!! Where are you having your surgery at?
-
I was SO nervous about the surgery that when they wheeled me into the OR I almost said "get me out of here!" Luckly they put the mask on me and the next thing I knew I was waking up! It was quite scary at first because you go to sleep feeling good and you wake up in pain but the fear only lasted a minute. Once I was up I was ready to start my banded life! Word of advice: Get up and walking AS SOON as you can, I swear it will make you feel better. I was walking 2 hours after surgery and the nurses couldn't keep me out of the hallway- my recovery was quick, easy, and complication free! Good luck!
Thank you!! That's reassuring how long did your procedure last?

So here I am at the end of an 8 month long journey. My surgery is on August 8th in Orlando....I am nervous not because I am scared about the surgery I guess it is more of an anxious nervousness. I went for my last clearance appointment yesterday, I am all clear from cardiologist and pulmonologist even though this is an outpatient surgery I will be staying over night in the hospital because I am the 3rd or 4th case that day so my procedure won't be until afternoon. IDK where I was going with this lol everyone have a GREAT morning =)
-
It will be exactly 8 months after I started my journey that I will have my surgery. My first appointment was on January 13th and my Surgery date is August 8th.
-
I will be having my surgery in 3 weeks. I have a husband and a son and I am 36. I live in Central Florida between Tampa and Orlando. My Dr is Keith Kim in Orlando area.
Welcome!! Will you be having your surgery @ ORMC?? I am scheduled for August 8th there!! I am getting really nervous and excited!!

Whiskey, lemon and honey helps. And quite honestly, a sip of moonshine if you can get your hands on it! I'm serious! So serious!
Haha Thanks, I am from the south and we just happen to have everything you listed on hand...even the Moonshine =-)

It's red, swollen, feverish & pulling very tight...no leakage but wayyyy bigger than the day I came outta surgery...it's like a big circle around it...
I would call your Dr. just to be on the safe side. That is what they are there for.

Cutting out dairy does the trick for me. It vastly reduces phlegm and mucus. Follow it for a day or 2 and you should start to notice a difference.
Thank you so much!! I do eat alot of dairy never thought of that. lol!!

Okay so I am a month away from surgery and I am never ever sick but I have had this horrible cold that has finally went away but the cough is lingering. Does anybody have any home remedies that would help get rid of this cough I have my pulmonary appt next Tuesday and I don't want anything to mess this up!!! As you all know this process is so long and hard I would be so upset if this delayed my surgery!!
-
I have my surgery date August 8th!!! I am so excited I can't stand it I am trying to rush the rest of June and July!!!! But just wondering how everyones experiences were in the hospital what should I bring with me I am the 3rd case that day so I will be staying overnight.
-
I AM SSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOO EXCITED I GOT THE CALL YESTERDAY THAT I WAS APPROVED!!!!!!! IT ONLY TOOK 2 DAYS AFTER THE PAPERWORK WAS SENT IN!!!!! MY SURGERY IS ON MONDAY AUGUST 8TH!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY 51 MORE DAYS!!! EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT GETTING SLEEVED AND I AM GETTING THE LAP BAND NOW I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow 16, I wasn't thinking about weight loss surgery when I was 16 I was thinking about getting a license and going to prom. I understand how you feel I have been over weight my entire life but I do feel 16 is just to young to do something this drastic to your still developing body!! If you have a Primary Care Physician I would contact them and speak to them about the way you feel and what you want to do and almost all surgeons won't do surgery unless you are 18 and the process is grueling. I have been working for OVER a year to get my surgery!!
-
So my paperwork was submitted on Tuesday to insurance for pre approval I am getting so ANXIOUS about it!!! I am hoping and praying everything goes smoothly with insurance.....but anyways I have my cardio clearance appt on the 5th of July and then pulmonary appt on the 12th of July what should I expect????
