    Emotional eating

    Emotional eating is such a challenge! I had a mammogram this morning followed by ultrasounds based on the results of the mammogram - except the radiographer wasn't allowed to tell me any results, just that the reviewing doc thought I should have ultrasounds straight away! Way to send my emotions off track! I'm supposed to be working this afternoon but if I go into the office I won't concentrate and I will be seriously tempted by the choccy box. So I've stayed home where my husband did the shopping yesterday and just eating fresh fruits. (Results tomorrow. Fingers crossed.)

    pre workout supplements?

    First up, check with your dr. Secondly - count any calories that any supplements have Thirdly - personally, I don't take any supplements pre-workout other than my normal daily multi-vitamin. If it is a hot day or I am exercise particularly hard and long, I will add Gatorade powder to my water to maintain the right balances.

    What do you mean by a pre-fill?
  4. Set small goals. Make them as small as they need to be for you to achieve them. Thinking that you need to lose another 50lb is typically too big for you to visualise yourself achieving. But if you have a pair of jeans in a size smaller than you currently wear, then you can set yourself a goal of getting into them by X date. Then work out the steps you need to do to achieve that. A speaker at a conference I was at on the weekend said most people fail at exercise because they go too hard too soon and overdo it. He likened successful exercise to getting addicted to drugs. You do a little, it feels good and doesn't hurt so you do it again. Soon it takes a little more to get that same good feeling but you do it because you like that feeling and so on until you are addicted. He recommended starting out with two minutes of exercise and building up from there. Good luck and believe in yourself.

    Bronchitis :( question

    I have had a number of nasty chest colds since being banded, including coughing almost to the point of vomiting - no ill effect on my band. But check with your surgeon if you are concerned.
  6. It is only a matter of when you feel comfortable. You shouldn't have any issues with your stitches as you are not stretching or lifting.

    YOu were persistent to go for it three times! I'd have given up after the first stuck episode.

I'm not sure how you are letting him down by becoming pregnant (perhaps you had some agreement with him about timing post-band?), however, you are not doing the best thing for your overall healthcare by keeping such an important matter from him. Whether he approves or not, he needs to be fully aware of these things so he can provide you with the best possible care. and congratulations on your news!

    Plus it is only your first fill so you are unlikely to experience restriction just yet. It usually takes a number of fills. But you are on your way!
  11. Have a quiet word with the person in charge of catering. You have special dietary requirements and you are entitled to make a private request for them to be catered for. I have a Lions Club meeting every two weeks and as I no longer eat red meat, I have a chicken meal. A small number of us have a special meal like this and it is no big deal. I also dine out regularly for business, have done from the beginning of my band journey, and have learned to speak up quietly. Good luck.

    Tight or eating too fast?

    Being too tight means that you are not in the green zone. You have passed through it into the dangerous red zone. However, your post title suggests that you think you may be eating too fast so concentrate on slowing down considerably and see if this makes a difference. If not, then get yourself off to your dr for a consultation and probably a slight unfill. Being in the green zone means that you can eat, albeit slowly, and not vomit or PB. And you will be satisfied on a small amount of food for a longer period of time.
  14. Not too much at the beginning. Not wanting to put a downer on you, just trying to help you stay realistic. Once you recover from the swelling, gas etc of the surgery, you will probably feel as though you can still eat anything and as much of it as before. That's because most of us need several fills before we start to feel restriction. Just be sure to follow your dr's orders, ask lots of questions (of your dr and on here). And have patience because this is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Best of luck.

    Memory

    Great message Terry. One way to build those markers is by rewarding yourself so that you associate the reward (non-food) with your NSV. For example, when I could ride a certain distance I rewarded myself with a new road bike. That was pretty big reward but was all the more special because my husband initiated it. Another reward I gave myself was a new gold watch when I hit a scale goal. Since then I've had another link removed and it is loose again. Keep up your great work!

    Band Slippage Oh No....!!

    You have had two unfills and are now able to eat properly - sounds like you are on the way to resolution! I hope the swallow test confirms all is good for you.

    so sorry for what you are going through and I second the suggestion for seeing a counsellor/therapist. However, I would not call you a lapband unsuccess story. I am sure (trying to be encouraging) that you were a success story until you were dealt such a massive emotional blow, and I am sure you can be again with the right support. Good luck.

    eat before or after the gym?

    I don't go to the gym but I do exercise and I typically eat afterwards. The only exception is if my exercise is starting a little later in the day, i.e. 8.30am or later. Then I will have my normal breakfast so that I have time for it to start digesting before working out.
  21. I'm coming up two years and have had no issues with my band either. I guess it is just more common for people to post when they do have issues and are looking for input from others in a similar position than it is for those of us who are not having problems to post.

    Exercises to tone the ol' stomach

    You can build core strength but it's not actually possible to spot tone a part of your body. I do believe that exercise in general will help in the battle against loose skin but I also take the attitude that loose skin won't kill me (and can be fixed) but morbid obesity is a shortcut to the grave.
  23. It's only been a week so your body hasn't had time to get used to your new activity regime. Keep it up and your body will adjust. Just be sure you don't go too hard and burn out with your great level of enthusiasm. This is a marathon, not a sprint. cheers
  24. Two years ago I could barely get on my bicycle let alone ride for more than a couple of kilometres. Now I am riding so far and so often that I decided it was time to be responsible and capable the next time I get a puncture. So today I spent almost 90 minutes on my knees in the workroom of my local bike shop learning how to change a tyre. I have blisters on my thumbs from pushing the tyre in but my knees DON"T hurt! And I know that when I set out for a 90+km ride on Friday, it won't matter if I puncture because I can just drop to my knees on the roadside, change my tyre and be on my way.
