    Surgery 6/6/11

Congrats Katie I too was banded on June 6th. I have been lucky I have not needed gas x but I have had the dreaded gas also lucky that from day 1 I have been able to burp and on day 2 as my 3 year old son would say "toot" that has made a lot difference. How are you doing with everything else? Shelia

    Surgery 6/6/11

Way to go Kat!!! I too had surgery on the 6th and feel the same way. I am down 17 pounds as of today and while I still have a long way to go I choose to believe this is a sign of all the good things to come. I am prepared for whatever is ahead but I am choosing to look to the positive side of things. I won't wish you good luck I will wish you HAPPY LOOSING Keep up the great work. Shelia

    Done!! Banded 6/06/2011

Congratulations Theresa and good luck with your surgery! Our journey is just begining but with patients and support it can be all that we hope for it to be. Let me know how it goes! Remember one day at a time. Shelia
  8. Well it's done I was banded Monday (6/6/11) also found out I had a pretty good sized hiatial hernia. Thankfully my surgeon was able to take care of it at the same time. Yea!! two surgeries for the price of one!!! Other than all the bloating from the air they pump into you during surgery I feel pretty well. Reported to surgery at 6:30 a.m. ended up having to wait while someone was brought down from another floor in the hospital who needed emergency surgery I wanted to be grumpy but hey while I know this surgery is important to me mine is still an elective surgery. After a little over an hour and a half wait it was my turn. The surgery took longer than we thought it would we thought between 30min - 1 hour but it was a little over an hour and a half! Was transfered to my private (YEAH) room around 2 p.m. What can I say that has not already been said the air/gas they pump into your stomach cavity to aid with the surgery is just about the worst part of this whole thing. I have had a procedure done in the past that pumped air into my uterus so I at least knew what to expect. I also knew that after my c-section 3 years ago that the best thing I could do was WALK, WALK, WALK so by 9 p.m. that night I had made a couple of laps around the entire floor that I was on ...slowly The next morning I had a Barium Swallow at 9 a.m. and yes!!! everything was great. Now I could go home sometime early afternoon...oh the best laid plans of mice and men. Well in order to go home by 2 I had to have eaten (what a joke LOL should be swollowed) a clear liquid lunch to make sure it stayed down and that everything was still ok. Well it took the Dr. in the radiology department over 6 hours to make the official report! Finally had the report by 3 p.m. ... lunch by 3:30...walking papers by 5 p.m. and was in the car on the way home to my kids and my bed by 5:15!!! My 3 year old son was so sweet ...are you ok mommy? does your tummy hurt? can I see?! Took a nap then I got up and went for a walk around by cul-de-sac since it was dark and the temp was below 100 degrees. Came home got ready for bed and went to sleep for the night! The only time I have taken any pain meds were monday and tuesday night just to help me sleep. Took tylenol today twice but that is it. I feel great all things considered. Once the gas disappeared (UGH) I am just a little sore. This will only last a short time when put into prosective with the rest of my life. I know there will be bumps in the road that is to be expected. I have never driven any road that does not have any ups and own or twist and turns. We had to learn to navigate those roads and we did with a little time, a little more practice, and whole lot of patients. If I can do that then I know I can do this too!! I am ready to live my life at the front of the line not hiding in the back of it....!!! Good luck to those of you who have already had lap band keep up the good work and take it easy on yourselves we are only human and we all make mistakes see as far as I know there was only one perfect person in this world and while he may not be physically on this earth any longer he is still here when we need him. I thank God for allowing me this opportunity to find out how strong of a person I really am. I have already learned so much about me in the last few weeks that I had forgotten that each day is kind of like Christmas it brings something new every day that I have either forgotten or even things I did not believe I was capable of doing, of being, of becoming. To those of you getting ready for Lap-Band this site for me has been a blessing I read more than I post but each day i learn something new. I have gained strength by the kindness and generosity of others on here who have taken the time to help each other and those who questioned their choice/decision, those who have simply lost their strength to do this alone. God did not intend for us to ever be alone and I believe he has shown that through the kindess of those on this forum. Remember, take this one day at a time and if that seems to be to much then hour by hour, before you know it those hours equal a day. Life is a gift not a right and I plan on making the rest of my life worthy of that gift!

  10. Well it's done :) I was banded Monday (6/6/11) also found out I had a pretty good sized hiatial hernia. Thankfully my surgeon was able to take care of it at the same time. Yeah two surgeries for the price of one!!! Other than all the bloating for the air they pump into you during surgery I fell pretty well. 11. Well here goes... 2 days of high school graduations and then Monday morning June 6 I am to be at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. !!!! I can't wait when I started this I really did not think much about it truthfully I believed it to be an easy way out. Well that was then and this is now. Two weeks of liquid diet will either make or break you and I found out I am a lot stronger than I ever dreamed I was. For the first time in my life food was not my answer for everything. Yes I have been hungry, yes when I cook dinner for my family it smells soooo good, and then to sit with them while they eat....but guess what...I do not eat! My 16 year old daughter teases me "hey mom how does that Protein shake taste" as she is putting food in her mouth (please don't think bad of her for this) I actually enjoy her humor, because in her humor I have found my strength. After her little comments I say absolutely wonderful and we all laugh ...and then she always responds with "You go mom you are going to be so HOT". God I love this child! I have also noticed with my new found strength it is rubbing off on my 12 year old niece you also lives with us and is already over weight (5 ft and 150 pounds) she is serving herself small portions, eating slower, using the stationary bike that has been a clothes hanger in my room for way too long To make a long story short I have already started to like me again and I believe that will help me greatly for the rest of my life. I am doing this for my husband, for my children (ages 16 and 3) so that I may be there to laugh and play with them for years to come but most importantly I am doing this for me so that I may be healthy both physically and mentally, to be happy and to like me and to finally be the person on the outside that I still feel and think I am on the inside. My oldest sister would have been 52 on March 5th of this year but she died August 21, 2009 just 2 days after my 40th birthday from a rare form of liver cancer diagnosed the end of May 09 and was gone in Aug. She stuggled her entier life with her weight at her highest being around 350 and I wish she could have found something like this. This is only the 2nd or 3rd thing I have posted on here but I visit and read this site every night and would like to say to all of you ...THANK YOU...the support and encouragement you give one another is truly amazing and has made this decision for me very easy. Good luck to all of us being banded this month! JUNE is a great month it is also my anniversary! 24 years way to go me So look out world here I come...well after June 6 at 6:30 a.m. that is !

    Any june 2011 Banders???

Hi I'm scheduled for June 6th! Tomorrow will be day 6 of the dreaded liquid diet but so far so good. God must have his hand over my mouth so far or I would have already cheated. But I can not believe that even though I have been hungry it has been ok. I cook dinner for my family ( my husband, my 16 year old daughter, my 12 year old neice and my 3 year old son) and even sit at the table with them while they eat and I am ok. So come on June 6 I cant wait. On June 12 my husband and I will be married 24 years I am hoping that by this time next year I will be back to the thin bride he married!
