  1. I had my WTH moments the next day due to all the pain. And it lasted a few days. Now it's "Thank God I had this surgery". Time seems to drag when you are on all liquids. Once you move to soft and regular foods time flies.

    Countdown to May 10th

I tried many different Protein drinks bot pre mixed and powder to mix with skim. The only one I like is sugar Carnation Instant Breakfast. If you need it pre prepared for wor just measure it out and mix it all in a gallon jug. Shake well before each use and it's fine. They make premade Carnation and the sugar free is easy to find in chocolate but it's impossible to find in strawberry. The only place I could find those flavors in sugar free was through the Nestle web site. I ordered a case which is a little more than you need for the liquid preop. But you will need it post op also. There are also different web sites with Protein Shake recipes that are really good.

    Weight gain after surgery?

I was shocked to learn that I had gained 4 lbs post-op. The nurses told me this is normal due to the fluids from the ivs. They said many RNY patients gain 20 lbs. It does come off fast because it is fluid related.

    Banded Plication

My insurance would not cover the sleeve. So I chose the band over plication. The results are comparable to that of the sleeve. Do your research, talk to your surgeon and choose the surgery that you feel is best for you. I have heard that many insurances are reluctant to cover plication since it is a relatively new proceedure.

    GPS Update: Important new information

I got the band over plication as a first step in my weight loss journey. Once I lose 100 to 120 I will convert to RNY. The reason being this surgery is less invasive. So, by losing this weight first, it will make RNY safer for me since I have an extremely high BMI. I know there can be complications with any of these surgeriesa. I did a lot of research and I feel I chose the best surgeon for me. That's why I am willing to make the drive 3 1/2 hours each way to my appointments. They have an excellent staff as well. Everyone there is amazing. I am hoping for a good outcome. But I know if there are problems my surgeon will be able to resolve them.

    Gastric Sleeve Plication

I had lap band over plication in early January. It was done by Dr. Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic. I have had no complications so far. Best of luck to you.
  7. I was very nervous, too. I almost backed out due to nerves the week before surgery. I am so happy now that I went thrugh with it. Recovery was slow and steady. I was up and shopping within four days. I used a wheelchair so that helped. Had lots of nausea. That was the worst side effect. They gave me meds which helped. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'm happy to help as much as I can.

  8. Best wishes on a speedy recovery and a fabulous new you.
  9. I am scheduled to have plication and lapband surgery on April 9th I got to say im a bit affraid. How long did it take you to recover after surgery?

  10. I've been there. It's totally normal to be nervous. I came close to backing out the Friday before surgery. So happy I didn't. All went well and it was over before I knew it. Thinking of you today and wishing you a speedy recovery.

    GPS Update: Important new information

I am so happy to have found this forum and to find someone with the same surgery as me. It seems to be pretty rare. I just got my second fill Wednesday. I have a total of 4cc and I am feeling good restriction now. I have been lucky enough not to have any problems so far. The plan is for me to lose 100 to 120 lbs then convert to RNY. This is due to my higher weight and the risks of a more invasive surgery.

    back from Ohio

I'm two months out and I still worry. That's normal. There are days when I feel I can eat more and others where I don't feel very hungry at all. I have learned that eating slower helps. Best of luck to you.

    GPS Update: Important new information

I got banded plication on 1/10/11. I am so glad I have finally found someone who has heard of it. I feel like the redheaded step-child of WLS. I wanted the sleeve but my insurance did not cover it. hey did however cover the band so we went with banded plication. It's a learning process. I've lost 30 lbs since surgery. It seems to be coming off faster now that I have been able to start exercising the past couple of weeks. I am in the mid 400s and this walking thing is new to me. lol
