    The Easy Way Out

Easy way out, like H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS it is!!! UGH that's all I got. I'm steaming mad!!!!
  2. Any suggestions on getting this down? I'm in the hospital and they brought me a few ounces of the alpine punch flavor. I've got it chilling over ice, but everytime I take a sip I gag. I'm pretending its medicine that my body needs. Can I mix it with anything to make it taste better? BTW this isn't the Protein shakes, but the light colored stuff in the tall glass bottle.
  3. Thank you all so very much!!! 2 weeks ago I would of never thought I'd be able to go to a restaurant! I was doing good to get in 4 oz of protein shake. Even though I did have a rough time at first I am so thankful for the sleeve! Especially now that I am down 35lbs in 5 weeks!! WOOHOO!
  4. Thank you for the tip on the roast! My plan won't allow me to have roast or steak for 10 more weeks!! AGH!
  5. First let me say....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!! I was sleeved June 16th and my diet is still somewhat limited (lots of complications). I am just now starting mushies and limited ones. I can't answer your question, but I wanted to add that I am having lots of anxiety regarding my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. I will cry lots of tears if I am unable to tolerate a bite of my favorite foods. Just one bite, thats all I want. I'm sure I am borrowing trouble and shouldn't be worrying about. Hopefully as your sleeve matures and the further out you get you will be able to tolerate small amounts of the food you love. I don't think you are whining, I think its a very good thing to get these feelings out, especially here where we are all experiencing similar struggles. I tell you, the first time I had refried Beans I got teary eyed. Luckily that was one of my favorite foods pre surgery and I eat them all the time now. It makes me feel normal. I think that is the hardest part of this, is adjusting to the lifestyle change. I have to cook meals for my family and have stood in my kitchen and cried as I pulled that gorgeous roast out of the oven and had to walk away and let my husband finish up dinner. That part is getting easier though. I have to keep reminding myself its not forever. The thought of going to a restaurant gives me the willys! I think that would be absolute torture for me this early out. BTW Congrats on the 60 pounds in 3 months!!! That is incredible!!!! I really hope things get easier for you. Just know you are not alone.
  6. I'm a little over 4 weeks. I've been in the hospital every single week since surgery with random complications, so I am a bit behind in diet schedule. I've just started Protein shakes AGAIN 3 days ago and it is taking me all day to get 40grams of protein in. I'm using GNC Wheybolic 60 Cookies and Cream. I really like it and so does my sleeve. I'm having to do an ounce an hour or I feel sick. In between I'm guzzling Water to make sure I get at least 50 oz of Fluid in. I know I am no where near where I should be, but I am doing the best I can. Is it ok to space the shake out over a long time period? I keep it refrigerated and then pour some in my little cup to sip on. Do you think my body is absorbing enough during these hourly feeding sessions to be nutritionally beneficial? I'm getting in less than 200 calories, probably more like 100 calories per day. This worries me. Thanks y'all. PS My little Flintstone Vitamin makes my sleeve very nauseous. I can't seem to win for loosing.

    This is soooo weird....

I agree about the commercials! It's torture for me. What is even worse is I am still cooking these delicious meals for my family that I cannot eat yet! But I really enjoy knowing I'm cooking them healthy meals and I get some enjoyment from watching them eat. Is that weird? LOL My husband brought in a bag of Dorito's the other day and didn't put them away. He left them on the table for the entire day. I couldn't bring myself to look at the table. Finally my daughter opened the bag to get a few and I got one out....and LICKED it. I'm was happy to throw it in the trash! I had no intention of eating it, I just thought tasting the flavor might help and it did! Gag!

    im seriously regretting this

I'm so sorry. It will get better....I promise!! I was in the hospital every week since my surgery and I said those same words. When you are in the thick of it its normal to feel that way. I'll keep you in my prayers!

    Potassium Deficiency

A few weeks ago I spend an entire week in the hospital having a PICC line inserted in order to get IV potassium because my level was critical. It had bottomed out and I was having horrible symptoms. Low potassium is nothing to play around with. And getting IV potassium burns like the devil unless its in a central line or PICC line.
  10. My surgery was almost 5 weeks ago, but due to several complications I'm just now being advanced to mushy foods...very limited one's at that. Tonight I went to visit with my parents and they had made a big batch of vegetable beef Soup. I decided to double strain it and have some of the broth. I did, and OH MY WORD it was delicious. It felt so wonderful to taste food that was familiar to me. I had forgotten how much I missed that. The Protein shakes are getting old and when I have broth or strained can soup it tastes just like the can..bleh! Yay for my mama's soup!! I'm going to bring out the crock pot and I see lots of soup in our future.
  11. YAY!!! I LOVE that you were still wearing it while giving us an update Congrats sweetie! You look fabulous! And P.S my wedding dress was very similar.
  12. I am doing much better!! This is the first full week since surgery I haven't had to be admitted in the hospital. I'm so thankful to be feeling better!

The bottom just fell out :(

I am sorry I'm sure you are very stressed out. Not sure where you live, but I had my surgery in Louisiana and it was $13,600. That includes a year aftercare and complication coverage. Maybe you could find a surgeon near you that will work with you on the price. I really hope this works out for you....and that its stress free.

    Scared

I just spent 6 days in the hospital for low potassium. When I was released I was able to drink all of my required water. Protein shakes have been difficult for me. When I was released I was able to get 4oz in over an hour 3 times a day. Today I feel horrible. My legs are cramping again (sign of low potassium) and I'm dizzy and weak when I stand up. TMI I also started today, so I'm sure that isn't helping. I'm still able to meet my water goals, but over the past 3 days I doubt I've gotten in more than 3 oz of protein shakes in a day. I tried greek yogurt last night and was barely able to get a teaspoon in. I really feel like this is NOT good for my body. BTW My surgery was June 16th. I'm supposed to see my doc in the morning. I was sent home with a PICC Line in case I had problems ( I have no more IV sites left) and I'm so afraid I'm going to have to go back into the hospital. I must say, this is not my idea of how I thought my recovery would go. Any suggestions are welcome.
  15. I had my VSG on June 16, 2011 and just got home from my official follow up dr visit. I am down 31 flippin pounds!! WHOO HOO!!! The first month was very hard on me with all of the trips to the hospital, but seeing that scale move made me feel ALOT better!!

I think God has opened a door :)

Prayers going up! What a blessing to have those doors opening for you.
  18. Ok so this is hard for me. I just cooked a beautiful roast for my family complete with mashed potatos, greens & corn and had to walk away. I was doing ok until I put food on my little girl's plates. Then I wanted to cry. I'm on full liquids until tomorrow, but even once I'm off FL I can't have roast or steak until 16 weeks post surgery Note to self....LET HUBBY PREPARE PLATES FOR A WHILE! rant over...
  19. Well howdy neighbor I'm in Long Beach. My surgeon is Dr. Redmann @ SSL. I've tried the unjury but my sleeve does NOT like it. I'll be so glad to move to mushies. I think I will do better once I'm off these shakes. I'm on full liquids until I see Dr Redmann tomorrow morning. I'll be sure to check out those Vitamins. I'm desperate for something I can tolerate. I will do anything to stay out of the hospital! I do not want to deal with a Vitamin defiency on top of everything else.
  20. I am doing ok. 4 weeks post op and FINALLY able to get in about 20g of protein and 40 oz of water. How are you doing? I hope all is well with you! :D

    Watcha eating today?

I am still on full liquids due to some complications...sooooo 4oz of Protein shake (20grams protein) tons of Water Today was my very first day to get more than 5 grams of protein...HUGE deal for me. I can't wait to start posting what I've actually had to eat. I'm hoping to double my protein intake tomorrow and then be up to 60 this weekend.
  22. Barium Swallow Study went well. I didn't pass out or puke! So...I'm home now..minus the PICC line and feeling pretty good after the B12 shot. I just hope and pray I can get stronger from this point and start living my life. Thanks everyone for listening and the great advice.

    Louisiana Sleevers??!

I used Dr Redmann with Southern Surgical Specialists in Covington. LOVE him!!! Good luck with your surgery.
  24. Thanks everyone. Today hasn't been all that great. I was supposed to have a barium swallow study done this morning. I spent the majority of the night in the bathroom dealing with the effects of Milk Of Magnesia....not fun. Anyway, I was incredibly weak and sick this morning. My nurse gave me zofran IV and sent me off for my test. I knew I was in trouble when I was shaking in the wheelchair being wheeled to radiology. I kept feeling like I was going to pass out. So they get me in the Rad. dept, get everything all ready for the test...tell me to come stand on this little platform thing...Still telling them I feel very weak. They hurried up and lowered the thing over my chest and then I started feeling like I couldn't breathe, heart racing, scared to death because I felt like I was going to yak and faint all at the same time. At this point I hadn't even had the lovely stuff to drink. I felt the thing I was standing on start to go back. When the doc heard me he immediately started adjusting the table so that I was laying down..but it freaked me out!!! I just KNEW I was going down. They got in me in a laying position and I started feeling a bit better, though crazy nauseous. They decided to send me back to my room and I don't remember the rest. I woke up back in my bed and feeling extremely drained. I really don't know what happened.....I do know my body was exhausted from the Milk of Mag...literally on the toliet every few minutes for HOURS yesterday...and since I've already shared TMI.....PERIOD FROM HELL. They are going to repeat the test tomorrow. I hope it goes well. Tonight I felt ok enough to get a shower and go for a short walk down the hall and back. I'm ready to go home and passing this test will get me out of here.
