    backing out

I cried going into surgery because of the fear of "but what happens if I don't wake up" It's a mostly irrational fear as the doc/nurse/everyone else there do this all the time and how many of their patiens have issues let alone die. I checked the stats and yet still cried. I remember the moment i opened my eyes and all i could think was...hey i'm not dead. I can't stop you from feeling bad...but know this i'm an RN and know all the stats on dying on the table...i'm not going in blind, i know these things...i know how most people live and have no major complications..."but what happens of i don't wake up"... Please know so many of us are scared...we save money up adn go through hell to get to this point to be healthier and live longer...but we are still scared. Your not alone and you have to beleive this is for the very best for the longivity of your life. Good luck, never give up on who you can be, and push forward to get past year fears! Gayle
  4. I had hernia surgery and vomited I the hospital on top of the WLS and it hurt to swallow water. The NP told me I could put ice packs on my chests to help reduce the inflimation. And room temp water was all I could do for days. Good luck!
  5. I have had a stall since day 9 of surgery ( 11 days so far.) I am eating plenty of Protein, exercising, drinking lots of Water, very low carbs...so the invariable "what did i do wrong" question has creamed into my mind every day. today i was reading on weight loss stalls and i think i finally get it. It's slightly technical and a bit wordy but overall it explained to me what was happening to my body. I found this on a Duodenal Switch website called DSfacts.com "The Inevitable Stall By Diana C. A "stall" a few weeks out is inevitable, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a saber tooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. Breathe, and fuggedaboudit for a few days." Hope this helps some of us struggeling with the...WHY ME? phase Gayle

    Opinion about my Nutritionist

I have been very lucky, all staff members at Dr Trace Curry's office have been banded or sleved or bypassed. They all know the pain of where we started and the possibilities of where we could go. Even Dr Curry had been banded...they are all people I trust and understand honestly what we are going through! I have tons more faith in a nut who was fat and lived through what we are..then just naturally thin.

    Protein and Purees

Chicken and tuna have a lot of protein. Take any healthy high protein food and puree it up for you. I hate the protein drinks and want my protein to come from real food.n..its not hard to do since you can eat so ofen, just be choosy and get the protein in first. I hardly get in anything else.
  8. My nut won't give me a calorie count. She said just keep the protein at 60 to 80 and low carbs and the rest will fall into place. Hoping for all of us. To get past this stall!

Super Easy - Crustless low-carb quiche

Mnbsleeve, do you have lactaid cottage cheese in your area? I am lactose intolerant and its ZERO lactose! And its real cottage cheese with the medication already in it. Its a real lifesavor for we the intolerant of lactose.
  10. Heatherr, I know exactly how you feel ..scale has not moved from day 9 after surgery..nothing at all. I was so sad about it but know it's normal..just the frustration of going through all of this and not seeing the numbers go down. Hang inthere ..a year from know we will laugh at that little stall becasue we will all be so thin!! Good luck!

Should I put off dating for a year?

perfectly said Tiff. She is right, if you care for this girl talk to her, let her know how you feel and see how she reacts. Tell her things will change with your body and eating habits and see if she will support you...if after a year you and her are not compatable, any numbers of things may have happened over that time. Good luck to you!
  15. i think the two things i used the most were ear plugs and a sleep mask...blessing for when i could actually get 5 min of sleep!

    B12 questions

thank you for this...I took my bariatric advantage b12 today for the first time...jumped into the shower and finished, dried off and it still was under my tongue...i wondered if anyone else had this issue. Glad mine is once a week too!
  17. the nut told me if you don't get in the right amount of Protein in....you will loose your hair. I'm not sure what else you can do now but increase your protein. Good Luck!

Thinking of Cancelling my Surgery.. HELP!!!

I totally agree with all of them. I was on a strick 2 week pre op and went out with a bang of skyline chilli the night before surgery. I asked the doc and he said my liver was perfect...DO NOT CANCELL ...id not even tell them personally! Lol
  19. I'm looking forward to some answers here too. I was thinking chicken/tuna/egg salad in a small bowl. Cottage cheese and fruit and some greek yogurt too.
  20. I have the same type of question and this is my own humble opinion. I recieved 2 lovenox shots in the hospital...to prevent clots. It's a blood thinner. I'm on depo shots and have not had a cycle for years and started up 2 days after surgery...UGHHHH what a pain. but this is my reasoning..the blood thinners. The wed site i went to said a side effect of it is>>>"<LI itxtHarvested="0" itxtNodeId="310">increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding" so if you got a blood thinner..maybe that is why.

    Post Op Day 6

i'm so sorry your not feeling better yet. I also found a lot of walking helped quite a bit...moved and stretched the muscles i was not using and helped me sleep better. I found lots of pillows seems to make it ok to sleep. Might want to just call your MD and see if they have some advise for you to help you over this. good luck!

I am also an RN..and like TLC's VSG I'm in the IS department helping create the electronic medical record for my hospital. Love doing this job!! YEAH NURSES!
  24. I have a question, my doctor has a specific plan pre-op with packaged meals ( medifast packets ) and i might use the jello (with protein) but have no use nor want to keep the remaining packets. Anyone know of a good use for them or anyone need these? Send me a message.

    Have you watched the surgery?

I'm an RN and watched the whole thing. It was one of the most straight forward procedures I have seen. Cut and dry...per say. Just focus on your health and good luck!
