  2. I was banded just a couple of weeks before you. I too wish that my results were better, but what you have to realize is that 18lbs is still a lot of weight. Think about looking at 18lbs of fat on a scale, or carrying around an 18lb toddler...isn't it impressive that you're not carrying that around anymore?

I've had to learn to be patient with myself, and realize that although it's coming off slower than I expected, I don't have to worry about seeing myself at this size again, my best friend and partner continues to remind me to enjoy the journey and stop thinking so much about the end result.

Embrace the investment that you've made in yourself and savor the achievement of each pound and each inch that you continue to lose!

    Happy Travels :D

  3. I was banded on May 18th also! Glad so many are on the mark with me, now we're set...so let's go! Except it's not a sprint but more like a marathon, we will endure to the end, our prize will be our health, strength, and personal reinventions!

    Gas pain - moderate

    Abdomen pain - moderately so

Protein intake - I just started taking A New Whey Protein Shots - 42g of pure Protein, no carbs, no sugar!

  4. Mandy,

The quickest advice I can give you as a certified personal trainer, is focus on cardio, your legs (quads, hams, gluts) are the biggest muscles in your body, when you increase your cardio your muscles will automatically react to the caloric burn. The best exercises are:

Stairmaster - the great thing about this machine is that you can move at a slower pace and receive the same effect as working out like a maniac. You can use a setting of >5 for great results in small increments like 10 minutes at a time.

Spin Class - the opposite end of the spectrum from the stairmaster, but you will yield FANTASTIC results! You can burn up to about 800 calories during an hour long class!

Interval Run/walking on a treadmill - warm up for 5 minutes, sprint for one minute, incline walk for 2 or 3 minutes (or as long as you can without holding on to the bar), then repeat, do this for 30 minutes a few times a week and you will see amazing results.

:Banane43:Jump roping is great too, but it takes a lot of endurance, work your way up to jump roping for at least 2 to 3 minutes a time with a 30 sec break in between (with active rest like crunches, walking in place or anything that will keep your heart rate elevated).

Your body is an amazing machine and what has happened is that it has adapted to the elliptical, change up your routine to create muscle confusion and you will get the results you desire!

    Good Luck!

  5. That's great Dave, congratulations!! I can only imagine how great you feel, I'm looking forward to my surgery day which is only six days away...I look forward to reading about all of your great success!

    Hi all,

First post, but I have read the forums here from time to time.

It's been a long road, but I was banded two days ago. 5-10-11 by Dr John Groves in Albertville Al, I'm still a little sore and have some upper chest/shoulder gas pain, but I'm feeling great all things considered.

My main motivation for being banded was my diabetes. I've been Type 2 for almost 15 years. I am at max dosages on 4 different oral diabetes meds plus a Byetta injection. They were no longer doing the job and my blood sugar numbers were close to out of control. The next step was insulin and due to my job, I REALLY didn't need to be on insulin. Happy to report that after 2 weeks low carb Pre-Op diet and just a couple of days post-op my blood sugar is showing a marked improvement. Went from 200+ to 120 so far. My younger brother was banded 3 years ago and lost about 100 lbs and it has stayed off. He was also off all his diabetic and severe high blood pressure meds at 4 months and 40 lbs in.

I started my journey last August with a visit to one of their seminars. Then I spent the next 7 1/2 months jumping through all the hoops for Highmark BCBS. Last Dr supervised diet visit was visit 3-6-11. I got approved 4-1-11 and got the letter 4-10-11. I got my date a few days afterward. The surgery went great. No problems getting put to sleep (my biggest fear due a prior surgery years ago). Arrived at the hospital at 6am, was in surgey by 7:30, recovery and waking up at 8:45,in my room at 9:30, swallow test at 11:15 and on the way home by 12:30. All went great.

As of now,I'm not feeling hungry. I only have a few cravings, but no hunger pains. Look forward to my first fill!

I hope to become a part of this community. I think all of us have a lot in common.

    Thanks,

    Dave_C

  6. Hi to All of the Experienced Bansters!

I am scheduled to have surgery on May 18th (and I am uber excited)! However, I am going through my separation/mourning with my beloved favorite meals! Because of this I have not been sticking to my pre-op diet food (or lack thereof). Will this hurt me? Did anyone else not follow the diet to the T? I wonder if I will have to push my surgery back date because of this. I need some advice from those that gone through what I'm going through.

I'm currently trying to give myself a jumpstart by taking HCG injections, but I haven't officially "stuck" to this either.

Thanks in advance for the input

  7. I am overwhelmed with excitement, anxiety and thoughts of my upcoming surgery on May 18th. I look so forward to putting the weight behind me so that I can truly live as my authentic self. I've struggled with this weight my entire adult life and like many others here, I've yo-yo'd from 20-60lbs going up and down, and I must say it has been exhausting. I am anticipating the times where my weight is stable and I have one size in my closet, and most importantly, not ever having to try another diet fad again!

The biggest struggle for me is that I've been in the fitness expert for years, I've owned and published a health and fitness magazine and I'm a certified personal training. So with this said, I've been in my own way to reach my true pinnacle of success.

I look forward to connecting with the other members on this site, while I mentally prepare and travel this journey, thanks in advance for the support and confidence I will need to succeed.
