mnbsleeve got a reaction from logicwand in how long is the 3 week stall?
MIne was a good 4 weeks as well. But, as already has been said, hang in there! It starts to come off!!!! I tend to get big drops after the stalls, especially after that first one. I think the body is in total confusion as to what to do LOL. With the support of the people on this board, I focused on nutrition, fluids, and doing what I was suppose to do.. oh and deep breathing for my impatience :-) Best of luck with your journey!!!!

I'm in San Jose. I could definitely drive to Fremont or RWC or Sunnyvale as someone suggested. I believe Irene (LilMissDiva) posted some possible dates: 7/9 and 7/25 I believe. I'll be out of town 7/25 but I may be able to make the 7/9. I'm having my surgery this Monday so frankly I can't say how I will be be then. I am hoping "just fine" :-). Also, I don't mind going up north more. At some point I would love to also meet those of you up toward the Sacramento area. Sorry if am going all over the place. I'm a little stressed with my date getting closer. I may just post about this. Be well everyone!!!

mnbsleeve got a reaction from LateSleever in Juicing!?
I only juice green vegies, especially leafy greens. Some are a bit more bitter, like spinach. Cucumber is "watery" and has a delicate flavor so it's good to mix in with the more intense ones so they don't taste as strong. It is an acquired taste but very worth it. There's very little calories, very litte to low sugar unless you juice fruits or carrots, and very, very high in antioxidants. I've juiced for years and I find that I rarely catch a cold and I heal pretty quickly. I think it really boosts my immune system. My NUT had me continue juicing up to the day before sugery. I missed it during the weeks after sugery where my surgeon had me on lilquids. There is a bit of a fiber content. When I resumed juicing again, I strained it, even thought it was just liquid! And indeed there was some fiber. Eventually I didn't have to strain it anymore once my stomach healed. I juice organic greens, the greener or more colorful the better - like purple cabbage, which has a very sweet taste! You don't really need a whole lot! In fact, even if you just juice a few leaves of kale and a bunch of parsley you may get 2 to 4 oz and it's plenty. I'll have a full 8 oz. but you don't need to. Some of the leaves render a very rich, green juice but not necessarily lots of quantity. Again, it depends what you juice. I find the cost to be well worth it and definitely not that much... lets say, it's not more than a piece of junk food one may have when not minding our health. Good luck and happy experimenting :-)

mnbsleeve got a reaction from Travelmego in Will We Have To Sip Forever?
I often will sip on some Water BEFORE my meal arrives, or at home while preparing meals. I stop about 8 to 10 minutes before. At a restaurant, I time it as best I can. Somehow you develop a system and it becomes the new normal. Also, I cannot fit much food in so somehow I don't really have a desire to drink. But I have taken on occasion, as the poster above mentioned, a teeny, tiny sip just wet my mouth when I've eaten something a bit spicy or I just need that moisture - not really a sip. A couple of weeks ago, I completely forgot and at the very end of my meal, we were just waiting for the check and it had been a while since I had finished eating, I took a sip of water. WOW! I got a big stomach pain and it lasted for about 15 minutes! I don't know that the hec that was. I wasn't feeling stuffed or anything prior. But perhaps it took me over the top. I just don't know. But I don't want that to happen again! :-)

So here's my two cents: why the hec not Linda? You're worth it!!!! AND there's nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself. Lots of us have put ourselves last for many years, especially those that raised families, and sometimes cared for aging parents at the same time. It's only a "crisis" if your life is in turmoil and can't cope with the change and challenges of the passage of time. When you're grabbing life and moving forward and feeling good it's called living! :-)

You look GORGEOUS!!!! I am sorry I have been a bit away from the boards (some personal/work matters) so I did not see this sooner. But I want to congratulate you on your accomplishment and for being such a bright shining light on this board. Many have already commented on your kindness and warmth and I want to second that!!! It is obvious from your pictures that your beauty comes from within. Your weight loss has simply revealed more of you! You are a rock star and I'm so happy and honored to know your story!!!!

So I'm about 8 weeks out and desperately "shopping" in my closet for the smallest items. About 2 years ago my hubby shrunk my favorite summer sweater by washing it and putting it in the dryer when it clearly stated DRY CLEAN ONLY. Because I loved it so much I couldn't bring myself to throw it out. Today I found it at the bottom of a pile of "will never wear again" clothes. To my surprise IT FIT ME PEEFECTLY!!!
Had to share :-) enjoy your weekend everyone I sure am!

For guys out there who may be like me: you buy clothes and wear then for long periods of time. well for those men who just sleeved and for the prospective ones: Start a clothing budget! I'm buying different clothing sizes almost twice a month. I was sleeved in January 2012 and wore a size 46 waist. Today I had to buy size 36!!! And I just fit into the 38s three weeks ago. Remember not to over buy in a particular size because you will only wear them for a short while. Thought I'd share this with the guys out there. Sometimes this isn't something you realize is going to happen and it helps to plan

So, I'm in Walmart this morning, doing a little shopping, when I look up and see this really handsome black man. He looks REALLY familiar, too. At first I thought he was someone else, but when I asked, he said no, but he's a Dr Domkowski patient, too. That's when I realized I was talking to Mr. J!!!
I've been following his journey here and on You Tube, and I knew he lived here in Vero, but I was stunned to actually see him in person! BTW, Mr. J seriously needs to update his pic on here! If he hadn't been smiling, I might not have recognized him!
It was nice to meet him in person. He's very charming and kind, even when accosted by strange women in Walmart! I imagine he's got his own NSV for today "Some crazy lady came up and talked to me out of the blue!"

mnbsleeve reacted to Julie76 in Hahahaha! Take That Ex Boyfriend! Nsv
I have secretly been wanting to run into a certain ex-boyfriend of mine. I dated him for awhile before I had my surgery and he told a friend of mine after we broke up that the reason we broke up was because I was fat. Not that he had a problem with it but that I had the problem with it and I was miserable about it. He told her that if I wanted to do something about it I could and just not eat as much. hahhahhahaha! We all know how easy that is. So I haven't seen him in nearly a year and ran into him yesterday. He took a double take before he realized who I was and walked over to speak to me. The weird thing is no words came out of his mouth. He just stood there looking at me....... I finally said hello to break the tension and still all he could say was "WOW". I said thank you and walked off. This helped me realize two things. 1. All this hard work I put into this was WELL worth it. and 2. He was right. I had to make the choice to "do something about it". I would do it again in a heart beat just so I could see the look on his face again!

I don't know if this is of any use to you ... I am posting some info below. Apparently research is showing that the VSG is the way to go for diabetes. I'm wondering if you get a hold of this research, if you could push your point with medicare and get it approved!!!!Good luck with this. I can imagine how disappointing and frustrating it must be. I'm keeping you in my thoughts!!!

Renowned Bariatric Surgeon to perform Live Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on Web

Dr. Paul Cirangle, Director of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery for Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco, will perform a live weight loss surgery webcast on Saturday May 19, 2012 beginning at 8:00 am PDT.

The gastric sleeve procedure will be able to be viewed world-wide in real time at
    www.LapSF.com/Live-Sleeve-Gastrectomy-Surgery.

Dr. Cirangle and Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco, are generally recognized as the pioneer of the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, and are credited with accruing the largest and longest series of Gastric Sleeve procedures in the world, numbering more than 2300 procedures over a period of 11 years.

Weight loss surgery has recently become an important topic due to long-standing evidence that procedures such as the vertical sleeve gastrectomy are able to resolve/cure metabolic disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol in a majority of overweight individuals.

Recent published reports in the New England Journal of Medicine in April 2012, clearly demonstrated the superiority of weight loss surgery, including the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, in resolving diabetes both in morbidly obese as well as modestly overweight individuals and established weight loss surgery as being vastly superior to traditional medical and dietary modalities.

The live sleeve gastrectomy procedure will be broadcast from start to finish giving non-surgical physicians as well as everyone everywhere the ability to see first hand how the gastric sleeve is performed as well as how minimally invasive surgical techniques have dramatically changed the field of weight loss surgery.

Welcome Marina! Thanks for posting your story! Sounds like you are doing great!!! For me, this has been the single most valuable thing I did for myself. I am so happy I cannot tell you. I am coming up on one year on June 6 and have lost about 92 pounds - about 103 since my highest. And all and all it was not that difficult - in the sense that before my VSG I did the same as now: eat healthy and work out like crazy. Yet NOW it seems to pay off and before I often felt like I was just treading Water and any little blip I would go back up. So even though I have been one of those that stalls and drops, stalls and drops, it's been steady down and I am THRILLED!!! :-) Best of luck to you on this incredible journey!!!! Looking forward to reading more about your progress!!!!!

Melissa, I've been there and done that. And, I probably posted, or at least thought, something similar when I was at the stage where you are now. I think it's great that people were there to support me when I was going through the pre-surgery jitters, and I'm happy to pass that along to someone else. In a few months, YOU will be the one passing along support and information to the new sleevers. It's just the way it works around here.

Everyone is different and our bodies are different. I don't know your friend or her particular circumstances so I could not say what she's going through. But on a separate note, I have learned that sometimes complaining and being unhappy can become a way of life. For some it can become a habit that is very difficult to break - it doesn't matter what's in front of you. I know that personally, when I run into that chronic dissatifaction, where that's all you hear, it gets to me!

I know every doctor has different protocol etc., but just to give you an idea, I was on liquids through week six! It was not till week six that I began mushies, and at that point we are talking about a tablespoon at most of yogurt or a bite of a scrambled egg. Still had to supplement with Protein Drinks. For a lot of us it is a very slow process. I am doing great. Have had no problems with nutrition or dehydration. Hang in there! Sending lots of good thoughts your way for a super speedy recovery and so that you may be on your way home soon!!!!

mnbsleeve reacted to SKCUNNINGHAM in Nsv - I Got A Job! Multiple Offers!
Here's the background data. I took an early retirement package from my employer at the end of December of 2011. They were having some tough times financially and wanted to reduce costs - so when they offered the package, I accepted it. I took a gamble on myself and my skills being marketable in the bad economy.
Not a fun time to be in the job market. For those of you who haven't looked for a job recently - it is completely different than it was even two years ago. If you don't know how to use social media, have a great "content-rich" resume, and are willing to network almost continuously, you are going to have a difficult finding a new job. I am 55 years old, and am competing with "kids" half my age and willing to take less money than me for the very same job.
Here's the NSV - I received four job offers! The first was about 3 weeks ago, for a contract position - which I accepted. That seemed to bring all sorts of other good things my way. I received three additional job offers in the last ten days. All three of them were good offers for permanent positions (if any jobs these days are really "permanent"). I had the amazing task of deciding which one was the one I wanted - because I would have accepted any one of the three. I did a little negotiating with the companies - to maximize the offers - and picked the winner. I resigned from my contract job, accepted the job I decided on, and told the other two companies, "no thanks".
I think the fact that I had successfully lost 100+ pounds and am a "normal" weight both really helped me have a successfull job search. I believe the confidence boost I got from having beat my personal demon carried over into my interviews. I know people looked at me differently during the interview process at a size 12 petite than they would have at a size 26W. I didn't have to worry about hiring managers or human resource people worrying about the costs of insuring an obese person. I think I look younger than I did 100+ pounds ago - and younger is definately better in today's job market.
It is going to be nice at the new company to just be known as "Sharon - the new woman" rather than "Sharon - the fat woman who is new". I look forward to planning what I will be wearing the first week of work!
    Sharon
