Just How Much Is Everyone Exercising?

I am a year out now. For the first few months I didn't do much except walking and regular daily running around. I was already losing fairly steadily and at the end of the day i didn't feel like I should add it in. Two months ago I started weight training, following the New Rules of Lifting for Women, and I LOVE IT!!! I have had to work very hard to increase the amount I eat (I am still at 1000 cals max), focusing on Protein. I do not think I could have done this a few months ago to be honest. When I don't get my max amount of food, I can tell when I am in the gym. It just isn't as great of a workout. I currently weight lift 3 times a week. Each exercise day is a full body workout that lasts from an hour to two hours depending on which one I am doing. About once or twice a week I will add in some cardio, but I prefer "high intensity interval training" over just plain running/etc. Basically I jog for a few mins, then I walk, then I jog, then I walk, etc.

Can I Swallow And Not Sip?

It is amazing the variance we see with our sleeves!! I am a year out and I still could not do 4-6oz of liquid at a time. I can do 2, maybe 3 if it is a warm liquid!

    Gas Pain

Gas-x, the ones that dissolve on your tongue could help. The other ting is lots and lots of walking. It helps displace the gas and get it out! At one day out, this is definitely very normal and often the most uncomfortable part of the entire process. Hang in there! It will get better! Oh, if you start getting shoulder pain from the gas, sometimes a hot water bottle on top will help.

Things I Don't Want To Worry About...

Have you had a chance to peruse the "non scale victories" page? I think that will ease your mind a bit on whether others feel that way or not We all do!! They may vary, but each of us have ones that bother us. It is amazing how awesome it feels when you realize that you have stopped worrying about those. It is even better than hitting number goals!

    So, I Havent't Been Perfect

What I've learned is that every surgeon's diet is different. Mine was super low carb for 2 weeks, and then Clear liquids two days before surgery. At this point I would stop eating and start being more strict, because you don't want to risk this. It will be even more difficult in some ways after surgery because you will incapable of eating, but still able to smell and see everything. (((hugs))) I know how difficult it is, but do your best!

Can I Swallow And Not Sip?

I think it really only depends on how much you are "swallowing", if you are swallowing an entire mouthful at once you are putting a lot of pressure on your new tummy. I personally could not swallow as the pressure in my chest hurt too much. I also found I was more likely to get in my required 65oz if I sipped consistently instead of swallowing. If it isn't hurting you, and you are getting in your water than I say do what feels best, but make sure to listen to your body!
  10. The one thing that is guaranteed to take you life at some point is your weight. It may not be tomorrow, or in a few years, but it WILL steal years off of your life. I was at a seminar this week (went with a family member) and the new STATs on the sleeve are amazing. The surgery itself is safer than having your gallbladder removed. The complication rates are extremely low. The anesthesia risk is there, of course, but it would be if you were getting your wisdom teeth removed or having a c-section, etc. You are allowed to be scared, of course, everyone is at some point in this process. You have to make sure you are 100% confident in your surgeon, talk the anesthesiologist too (you may have to request that). Follow your pre-op and post op instructions to the letter. This might be considered to be an "elective" surgery, but realistically is is not. You need this to gain control over your life. To be healthy and to remain healthy for your boys. (((hugs))) You are going to do great!

    Emily's One Year Surgiversary!

My surgeon was Dr. Pinnar in Jax, Fl. He worked with Dr. Cywes. At this point Dr. Pinnar is not practicing with him anymore and is in the process of switching (so i have heard). I'm not comfortable with Dr. Cywes so I am switching as well, into Dr. Webb's practice most likely! I have been talking to the coordinators at Memorial and just need to get my records moved over. Congrats on your one year as well!!!

I Had The Sleeve So I Can Get Pregnant

Hello Congrats on doing so well already! I was sleeved for a different reason, as I am not at that stage in my life yet (I'm 21), but many, many, many people do! I was told (cause they tell every female patient) that ideally you should wait until you are passed your year mark before pregnancy to ensure that you are at optimal health and have no problems getting in all of your nutrition. I just hit a year out and I can still barely eat 3 ounces at a time! A pregnant woman needs to eat! As for the gap, my sister and I are 15 years apart. I think in the end it doesn't really matter.

    Protein 1St Week

I was on full liquids once I left the hospital, but honestly I couldn't handle anything. The first week I focused on hitting my liquid mins and getting in what Protein I could. If you are really worried you could try beneprotein (you have to order it) or Bariatric Advantage has a protein elixir (like a syrup) that you can either take straight or mix into your Water. The amount of protein isn't high, about 10 grams per serving, but it is better than nothing! As for being allowed to try the chocolate ones, I highly suggest just calling your surgeons office and asking. They won't mind
