    Sabotage....

I am so sorry, my husband was supportive even to the point he had surgery one month ago. It was hard at first before he was sleeved. First don't go shopping together, try to make a menu and stick with it. Do try to talk to him about how this is making you feel. If it continues when he is eating something, go outside, go for a walk, get out of the house. Also light candles to remove the smell. Just keep your eye on your goal to become healthy and lose weight. Contact me as I am also Birmingham and we can met or if you just need to vent.

    really upset

We have all been there and done that, thought that and such. I had 14 day liquid diet before surgery. My husband ended up with just 2 days....he had a cancellation and they moved up his surgery date. Take it one day at a time. For me I found it easier to make sure I was eating/drinking every 2 hours. It made my stomach think it was full. It was really hard when I still had to cook supper for my husband while on being on liquids. Just keep you on the prize at the end. Losing weight and keeping it off. Good luck and hang in there.

    Please help

I could not tolerate protein drinks after surgery. I used the sugar free carnation instant breakfast. I would mix some sugar free torina syrups to change up the flavor from the plain chocolate and vanilla. To add extra protein I added 1/3 cup of instant dry milk. It may be a little higher in carbs but it helped me until I was able to get all protein from foods. Good Luck and hang in there.
  4. Woke up this morning at 5:20 am to tornado sirens. Lost power just before 6 am. The bad news this was just a first line, they expected the worst to hit later this afternoon. And sure enough, it got much worse. I live in Birmingham. Luckily for me I was 7 miles south of the Tornado that hit our city. The tornado started in Mississippi and had been on the ground for at least 2 hours, hitting Tuscaloosa then continuing to Birmingham Metro area. Many times they were tracking 7 to 8 tornados at the same time on the radar in our viewing area from late afternoon and on. So far the death toll is already at 50 for the state and expected to climb much higher. We had power restored and lost several times during the day and evening. The cold front has finally passed through so the threat of severe storms has now finally passed. Grateful that we were spared from this disaster. We know first hand of loss as we lost everything from Hurricane Katrina

    Husband/Wife teams

I had my surgery Dec 1st and my husband had his March 29. Now that we both had the surgery done, it is wonderful. We share a lot of the same foods together and I was able to guide him through his food stages and what worked well for me. It was hard at first as I am the cook and cooking while I was on the liquid stage was just not fair at times. We have decided when we go out we will take turns in ordering and split meals---now we are both considered cheap dates. Good Luck.

aetna- HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY?

There are different factors, first is the doctor a participating provider for your insurance. If your deductible has been met and are you refering to your yearly out of pocket has also been reached? If so you should not have any balance with the surgeon. I would suggest you contact your insurance carrier as they can verify for sure if you still have any out of pocket to met. As for the starter pak, unless they require you to purchase you should be able to say no to that. Let them know since you were a band patient that you already have the vitamins. Good Luck.

    Support? where is it?

When dealing with a significant other who suffers from clinical depression or any type of mental illness, you have to focus on yourself first to be able to help them. Been there done that. I decided to have WLS and was first considering the band but my doctor suggested the sleeve which my insurance had just started to cover. It was the best decision I ever made and I am so glad that I did not have the band and I never even considered the bypass. Some will continue to guilt you no matter what you do and at some point you have to do what is best for you. I don't know if you are involved with their healthcare provider but let them know of the issues. When my husband was in therapy, I met with his doctor every 6 months as we review medications and let them know how I was seeing things, medication side effects, what was happening in our life and such. It gave them better insight and helped in dosage or changing medications as needed. I am happy to say after 15 years of depression, he is off all medications. He still has some mood swings but we are able to work thru them. Hang in there and don't let them discourage you.

    Returning to Work??

I had my surgery Dec 1st on a Wednesday. I went back to work the following Wednesday. I work from home for an insurance company answering calls and processing claims. I flexed working for 10's. I did get tired very easily that first week working only 3 days. My husband had surgery on March 30, another Wednesday and went back to work the following monday but only work 4 hours a day for that week. It all depends on how you feel. I had to go as anything beyond 7 days I had to go to short term disability which would have been a cut in pay and I just couldn't afford that. Good Luck.
  13. Shopping is such a new experience. I was able to buy a few new summer tops at the golf store (they must think fat people do not play golf). It now takes me longer to check out the clothes as there is so much more to look at instead of the small section of plus sizes. I am loving it. Keep up the great work!
  14. Sounds like your doctor was pleased and you should be happy with your results so far. Good luck.

    I need a new scale...

Walmart. I think we spent $24.99 on it. It keeps track of 2 people and goes in .2 increments. I am one that usually weighs twice a day (I know-I should only weigh once a week). Just a basic model. I did wish that it light up for the numbers but I can live with it.

    taking control

I was first looking at the lab band before my surgeon suggested the sleeve. I went home and did my research. Look on on some of the other threads especially postings by Tiffykins in regards to lap band revisions to the sleeves due to complications. My husband who was just sleeved by another doctor was told they no longer are doing the lap bands and supposely the doctor who created it is no longer doing them. I have no regrets in doing the sleeve over the lapband. You will need to do what is best for you. Good Luck in making your decision.
  17. Our support group is this coming Saturday, so I will ask them. They make samples of shakes and mixes and the coordinator is actually had the bypass. I will let you know what I find out.
  18. Based on what my nutritionist told me at my last meeting, we should be losing an average of 1-3 lbs a week. So just by that your are normal. You are averaging over 3 pounds a week right now.. Granted not everyone loses the same and there are so many other factors to look at. Are you still on medications-some can slow weight loss. How many calories and/or carbs are you eating? what are you eating? are you getting enough fluids and Protein in daily? Are you excerising and if so how much?I am only 4 months out but I seem to stall every 4 weeks or so. I am not as far as some but farther then others. Overall, I see where I was to where I am now and I am happy. Yes, I do want to lose more, Will I, oh heck yes but it may take time. It took me 20 years to get where I was and if takes me a year to lose-so be it. I am losing and I have not put weight back on. And yes, my husband was just sleeved a month ago and I think he will get to his goal before I reach mine but I can live with that. We are both getting healthier and sharing the journey together. Hang in there!

    Another silly supervised diet question...

Every insurance is different, mine stated it had to be 180 days but we could submit one month early as long as surgery was schedule after the 180 days. For my husband he was approved after the 6 visit which was less then the 180 days and had surgery the following week. Good Luck it will be worth it whether it is the 6/7 months total.
  20. Before surgery they gave me something to help me to relax and it was wonderful. I barely remember going into the operating room but I knew that I was doing the right thing. The pain was not bad after surgery. I actually don't remember waking up until I was actually placed in my room and my husband was smiling at me at the foot of the bed. Everyone is different with pain but if you are in pain ask for the pain medicine. I had shots every 4 hours and I also had others prescribed but I did not need them. Just focus on the end of the journey....how you are going to look and feel once you have lost all that weight. I now weigh at my lowest weight since 1986. I am only 20 lbs away from what I weighed when I got married.
  21. What about going back to the hospital where you had surgery? There should be someone on staff that may be familier with VSG. Or if anything they should have called your doctor for a phone consult. Another possiblility could be your gall bladder. With rapid weight loss we are more like to get gall stones. As for the Nurse trying to do the IV, You should had requested a different lab technician for the IV, I would not have tolerated that more than 5 minutes. My husband had to have his VSG done 150 miles away but mine was at a local hospital on the other side of town. We have already discussed that if either one of us has any medical issues and need the ER we will travel back to the hospital that did my surgery since are classified as a Bariatric Center of Excellance. Good Luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.
  22. Adding meat back into the diet is scary. I would get a roasted chicken from Walmart (or any grocery store) and cut up the pieces very small with a scissors or chopped with a blender and mix it with a small amount of gravy. Keeping the meat moist is keep and definately small bites and chewing completely. I also mixed very lean ground beef with pork and beans. Or try the Hormel Turkey Chili with no beans. As for the hamburger, I just recently had one from Five Guys and also had issues-and never want to experience that again. If you need in the future, just eat the patty. If you still cannot eat meat then you will need to contact your doctor as it could be a stricture. Hang in there.
  23. My husband was told to he could use the flinstone chewables. So far he is able to tolerate them well.
  24. I was just at my dentist last month. I have had not side effects from surgery with the exception of meat getting stuck in between my teeth where I have a large filling that needs a crown but it needed that prior to surgery. I actually floss more often because of this so it actually is better for me.I do faithfully take my vitamins and calcium. And since I do not eat as many sweets that may prevent future decay. Hope this helps.
  25. I have just hit the 4 month mark. I was sleeved Dec 1st. I am on able to eat about 1/2 of Protein with 1/4 c veggie at a meal time. I usually feel full at this point. I measure most of my foods and my calories are around 800 a day. I keep my carbs very low under 50 or even lower if possible. By choice, I do not eat rice, potatoes or bread (or at least very rarely) so I can try to lose as much weight as possible. I have lost 56 pounds since surgery and a total of 65 since I started my journey. I try to walk every day but I work 10 hour shifts and it hasn't been easy. I do get my full protein daily but still struggle to get all my fluids in daily. I have hit some slow downs-not sure if I could call them a stall but my nut says as long as I am losing at least a pound a week that I am doing alright. Everyone is different on how this works for them. I know others may have lost more weight but others have lost less. I am just so grateful for every pound I have lost is a blessing. Hang in there.
